View Full Version : Civ Customization
Chieftess Aug 29, 2002, 08:59 AM Did anyone know that if you clicked on the civ traits (just below the leader head) that you could cutomize the name of your civ?
The options are:
Name:
Formal:
Noun:
Adjective:
Titile:
Currently, for the Germans, they are:
Name: Bismark
Formal: Germany
Noun: Germans
Adjective: German
Titile: Chancellor
Daaraa Aug 29, 2002, 09:01 AM Thats a neat feature I never noticed! Thanks.
Should we change the info there to match ourselves?
edit: I think we should change it.
Eklektikos Aug 29, 2002, 09:05 AM Sounds like a good plan to me, although I'm not sure what would be best to enter in the "Title" and "Name" fields given our regular changes of President.
disorganizer Aug 29, 2002, 09:05 AM I would propose:
Formal: Fanatika
Noun: Fanatikans
Adjective: fanatikan
Title: President
Name: ? is this changeable when the game runs? i believe so. So what should we put in there?
Shaitan Aug 29, 2002, 09:08 AM None of these fields are editable once the game starts. For President we could just put in "Fanatika" for a generic placeholder.
Then again, that would make our saves "Fanatika of the Fanatikans..."
How about "Great One" or "Mighty One"?
Chieftess Aug 29, 2002, 09:11 AM Wow, this sure got replied to quick!
Or "Shaitan - Founder of the Constitution"
;)
(I won't include the other 'f' word next to a German civ... I don't want to intice anything...)
disorganizer Aug 29, 2002, 09:13 AM Now in which example sentences is which variable used?
Could we leave it blank?
EDIT:
does anyone have a tool to just change this name in the save without giving any other possibilities?
Chieftess Aug 29, 2002, 09:14 AM Although, we could use a hex editor to edit the names. ;)
But, who knows what that might do to the game save... (Is the string of varible lenght? Fixed? Does it require a length field?) :)
disorganizer Aug 29, 2002, 09:17 AM yeah. any utility-programmers here?
reason: it would be nice to have a small batchfile (or windows app) to just give it the name of the player in duty and the name of the save and then change it accordingly. this way we would always know who played which save ;-)
but this is like the map-generator: a dream...
now in which sentences is the player name used?
Shaitan Aug 29, 2002, 09:33 AM The DP can always save with his/her name in the save.
The player name is used extensively when the others civs talk to you. Other than that I think it's only in the save filename default and the Hall of Fame.
Chieftess Aug 29, 2002, 09:37 AM It's the text files that use things like: @player1.civname (I don't know the exact syntax)...
I'll try to find the names in a game save - Also the autosaves aren't decompressed (I believe they're after the city cycles and AI moves).
Shaitan Aug 29, 2002, 09:43 AM Do autosaves use the player name? If I remember correctly they're just called "Autosave, [date]".
Chieftess Aug 29, 2002, 10:12 AM I think so. There have been a few times during the last demogame, where the game crashed, and I had to use the latest autosave. :)
Padma Aug 29, 2002, 10:15 AM You guys didn't know you could do that? I've been using it since Day 1!

Teach us more!
Danke Aug 29, 2002, 01:42 PM I didn't want to say anything, but I had the same thought as Padma. I used that on my first game. My test game that I'm running now using the same starting criteria I have set as "Danke of the Fauxnatiki" (I'm in dead last, btw. My first game on Emperor).
However, I didn't find the "clean map" option until something like my 8th game, so I can't exactly brag here.
Stuck_as_a_Mac Aug 29, 2002, 02:24 PM so r we or r we not modding the name? Im personally all for it.
Also, ive known this myself from my first game- Mokra of the Ukra Bleems.
Padma Aug 29, 2002, 02:39 PM To the point of the discussion: I'm all for using this capability to name ourselves. :D
Octavian X Aug 29, 2002, 02:42 PM How about this
Name: Player
Formal: Fanatika
Noun: Fanatikans
Adjective: Fanatikan
Title: Designated
This will produce the message ' Designated Player of the Fanatikans' when the game i sopened. Thoughts on the actual name?
Cyc Aug 29, 2002, 03:50 PM I'm for keeping it simple:
Name: People or Land
Formal: Fanatika
Whenever we were addressed it would be "People (or Land) of Fanatika". Same goes for the saves. Right? Wouldn't that cover the Nation as a whole?
Danke Aug 29, 2002, 04:00 PM I'm with dis
Name: People
Formal: Fanatika
Noun: Fanatikans
Adjective: Fanatikan
Title: hmm. "Glorious"? "Obstinate"? :)
Cyc Aug 29, 2002, 04:57 PM 1. Is it really that bad for more than one person to carry the peace flag of Fanatika for their avatar?
2. I ran some tests. My suggestion doesn't work that well.
How about:
Name: DP
Formal: Fanatika
Noun:Fanatikans
Adjective: Fanatiks
Title: Ruler
disorganizer Aug 31, 2002, 02:35 PM 1. i will change to the war-flag as soon as we are at war :-P
Stuck_as_a_Mac Aug 31, 2002, 02:38 PM anyone gonna poll this? id vote yes in an instant.
Shaitan Aug 31, 2002, 04:32 PM Dis' last proposal is perfect. If nobody objects to using "Ruler" for the title I say just use it.
Chieftess Sep 01, 2002, 10:18 AM Ok, so it's -
Name: People
Formal: Fanatika
Noun: Fanatikans
Adjective: Fanatikan
Title: President
Chieftess Sep 01, 2002, 10:44 AM I was just talking to Grey Fox, and he said 'People' for the name won't work, since it'll say "Greetings President People!".
'of the people' might work. I will test the settings, then post.
Eklektikos Sep 01, 2002, 10:52 AM Name: Player
Title: Designated
perhaps this would work?
Chieftess Sep 01, 2002, 10:53 AM FA Screen (under the leader head): People of of the people of Fanatika
The title is 'people of'. I will change this to President, and see how it goes.
Chieftess Sep 01, 2002, 10:59 AM Ok, this is better -
Name: of the People
Formal: Fanatika
Noun: Fanatikans
Adjective: Fanatikan
Title: President
You will get lines like:
President of the People of Fanatika.
The glorious Fanatikans.
Octavian X Sep 01, 2002, 01:58 PM Would this work?
Name: of Fanatika
Formal: Fanatika
Noun: Fanatikan
Adjective: Fanatik(an)
Title: The Citizens
I'd like to see 'Fanatik' troops over 'Fanatikan' troops.
The title/leader would produce
The Citizens of Fanatika
'We love The Citizens Day'
