In my final act as Domestic Advisor, I hereby post this poll so we can decide the name of our new city. Pick one, it's not difficult. :D

I think we should keep Elysium for the gem's city though.

Yes, Elysium sounds like a nice name for the Gems City. So I'll vote for something else. I'm wondering if our glorious president, or even his fantastic military advisor, really want their names attached to this rather squalid location?

Eylsium...

Ok, at first glance, I thought it said Asylum.

Still nice though (Eylsium).

The town that I will never forget... Oak Creek

It's a real city name, whatever, I don't really care that much, but if we could somehow name one city after it, that'd be awesome! :)

Personally, I like 'Doughnutia,' the world's home of fried pastries...

Well since you've all decided that you don't want me in the government anymore  you can at least name a city after me...

Yes Dell, you've done a great job. Some people just want change, and come October you might again find a favorable wind. I voted to name it after you.

And I'd also like to keep it. But please, let's keep the disbanding discussion out of this thread. Please direct such comments to the "Renaming Nineveh" thread, which has become the "Should we eventually disband Nineveh" thread -lol

I want to name the city after Dell but I don't like New Dellvillle, so let's call it Grantham!

In the Apolyton Democracy Game (not MP) they're naming a city Townsville :D Though that appears to be the name of the city the 'Powerpuff Girls' inhabit :crazyeye:

On Topic: I like New Dellville for this city, after it is disbanded and moved of course ;)

Edit 1: Btw, Reneaux is spelt wrong in the poll :)

I agree we should name it after our soon-to-be former President Dell!!!

Actually I would support the change to calling the city Grantham :)

New Dellville

Who's the first? Maggie Thatcher? Elizabeth I.? Henry VIII.?

I also second that in reverence to our still-president (whoever said they don't want you anymore, dell?) the city shall be called whatever he wants.

No, not "Whatever-he-wants".

If he prefers Grantham to New Dellville, then so be it.

Hmph, I like New Dellville better.

Btw, I agree with Elysium for the Gem city :)

It was Margaret Thatcher, Mr President's favourite heartthrob. ;)

As to the name, I'm not really that bothered, but New Dellville sounds fine. Civ1-addict can change the name at the start of the next round of turns. :)
It seems that the vote in the other thread has gone to keeping the city so New Dellville it is!

So we've had a famous scientist, a murderer, a Leader of a country, oh and and a Demo game president.

Could the city be could Grantham, since most people should be able to work out that its named after to me from my sig?

More enigmas for me. Let's see... How many famous English scientists do I know?

Hawking. Crick (english?). Watson (e?). The Darwins. That's it.

Murderers? No idea...

I voted other, meaning Grantham in honor of our glorious first president :D Great work Dell.

The Scientist has a wonder named after him in Civ. Strickly speaking he was born near Grantham and only went to school here, where he didn't do that well :)

So it is old Isaac... Was the apple tree in Grantham? :)

It seems like I have to touch up my geography skills a bit. Until yesterday, I thought major cities in England were London, Manchester, Birmingham, Liverpool. But Grantham seems to be the metropolis... I'll look it up in my atlas when I'm home.

MMORPG - I know that the Civ3 demo game has one (and am a bit doubtful as to how practical that will be and how much fun). Are there many others around? Is that the category for Ultima Online, Everquest, Anarchy Online...?

:egypt:

Ultima Online, Everquest, Anarchy Online - Yep I'm pretty sure they are all MMORPGs. Look for Grantham to the East of Nottingham and 100 miles (Not exact) north of London. The Apple tree was probably near Grantham but I'm not sure where.

Have you ever played one of those? They cost money, that's a big no for me, and they involve lotsa time. Then again, I've heard of people selling magical items from these games at ebay for wads of money (into the thousands of pounds/ euros/ dollars; and yes, I'm talking about "virtual equipment").

My atlas doesn't include Grantham. How big is it, seriously :-) ?

Jayne

Correct me if I'm wrong Dell, but Grantham isn't one of the big cities. I think the nearest is probably Lincoln. Its on the A1 road.

I doubt my town of Warwick is in your atlas either.

Dell19
Sep 04, 2002, 09:46 AM
Seriously its about the size of 35 000 people + houses and supermarkets. Grantham is now bypassed by the A1 but its nearer to Nottingham than Lincoln.

My atlas is about 6" x 3" :D Grantham is there but it's printed really small and is right near where the pages join so i have to bend the book right back to see it :D

As deputy mod here I don't want to be a meanie but this thread is veering a little bit off topic. In order to address the problem I am going to take it all the way off topic by giving you this link to Grantham on line (http://www.grantham-online.co.uk/) at which you can learn almost everything you might want to know about Grantham (including where it is!). Enjoy! :goodjob:

alright, duke. i thought this was the

"all hail grantham, ye marvelous city of great minds. we will honor you by naming a core city of our soon-to-be-spanning-the-known-planet-empire after you"-thread :)

thanks for the link. i'll check it out!

a question: do mods do MUDs?

Dell19

The thread has basically run its perpose though so it doesn't really matter that much that it went off topic.
