Just throwing this out there. most successful revolutions have actually been coup d'etats. Any chance we can see that and maybe relate it to some kind of military happiness?

A lot of govts of the world spend a lot of time and money trying to keep them happy. it could be an intersting dynamic. Having one side pressure you for a police state civic and civilians pushing for democracy could be challenging.

Oh yes, it is coming ... I hadn't thought of creating a military happiness variable, my plan was that if the new civ-wide stability measure is low there would be a risk of a coup. You might get demands from generals for a police state civic or a war and denying them would bring the possibility of a coup.
