I play civ4 since it's vanilla release and honestly, I didn't even know about "why don't you attack...<city>" option in "lets discuss something else" dialog menu untill recently. Now I'm wandering probably there is something more there?

- What do you think of (leader)?
- Why don't you attack (city)? (must be at war against some other civ)

Something else?

And does that suggestion to attack some particular city really work? Do you use it?

There is "we would like you to research" for vassals.

I use the "why don't you attack..." option to get the AI away from my target city normally.

What do you think of... is useless with the glance page and the relations page though. It's good for a laugh with the "Catherine? I like him [pleased]" line occasionally ;)

I will now. Thanks Cornplanter, I've been playing a long time too, and always thought "lets discuss something else" was a waste of time, so I stopped using it and never found out those other options were available.

When I'm allied/vassaled to multiple leaders, I use it to combine attack a single city, or as what you said, to keep them away from my target city.

When my allies and I have culturally surrounded my enemy, I send them to attack a certian portion of thier borders (my northernmost ally would attack my enemy's northern cities, ect.).

I almost didn't notice this feature when I was fudging around and happen to stumble upon it while I was attacking (I originally went there to check the diplomatic status of him vs another civ). I also gave Elizabeth nukes and asked her to attack 3-4 of Budica cities and she responded-- with nukes. Budica may have been the largest country in the world, but now after 25-30 nukes (yes we repeatly nuked her over and over), that large civ (took about 25% of the contient) was now a nuecular wasteland. (I ended that game with a Space victory.

Yes, it works, and I have had several successful military campains using "Why don't you attack (city)?"

I use the option "Why dont you reasearch . . . . " a lot with my vassals, especially when I get a techer like Mansa. I never used to be a fan of the "voluntary vassal" thing, when they AIs would come to me for "protection", but when the tech leader comes, I take him on so I can grab Physics, Communism, etc for the free GP before them by telling them to research something else.

I feel it's strange to just FORCE the Ai to march into a city it doesn't want. I mean, why can't AI do it as well? Though that's taking the 'no free will' argument too far I suppose. Research makes sense amongst vassals.

Er... in most cases I choose to wipe them off the planet, if time permits.

AI doesn't always attack the city you suggest... it is more likely to do so if you pick an enemy city near your tame AI
