Any word on this? Has it been abandoned?

Still coming.

We've already added 7-8 new civs to the build. Another 3-4 are almost done.

We still have to do things like clean up buttons and icons. The original ETA was Feb 28, but 1st week of March is more likely.

There is *a* release coming today. Not 5.0, but something in the meantime.

Is it the "Nature of Man" pack?

I really like the idea of eventually integrating the Nature of Man into CIV Gold 5.0, especially since I do want to go up against some of the 'villains' :-)

But that old idea of porting the LHs to FPK files and removing redundant animation would be the best thing you can do, since that will significantly speed up loading time, etc. I wish I had programming ability, but alas, my programming was as good as Q-BASIC and promptly decayed.

Anyhow, awesome MOD. I love the fact that there is so much that you can pick from. So since there is George Bush... will there also be a Barack Obama with 'Charismatic' and 'Creative/Philosophical'?

Apparently removing redundant animation causes problems with some systems (or so I've heard). We do that with some units but the glitches would not be as noticeable there. I'd love to take a different approach to speed up loading, however.

Thanks a lot for your comments. Obama's not slated to be included at present, but maybe he can be added at some point.

The only other thing I'd like to see is a couple new LHs for some civilizations that only have one...

for example, Armenia should have 'Tigranes the Great' as one of its LH, since the civilization was greatest under his rule (see http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Tigranes_the_Great for further info) when it spanned from the Mediterranean to the Caspian Seas.

I'd give him the traits: Charismatic and Expansive.

As for the Ottomans, what do you think about renaming them to 'Turkish Empire' and including 'Ataturk'? He is pretty much the father of modern Turkey.

Anyhow, that's it from me for now. I've played with a few civs... got a ton more to go. :P

Nothing else planned for Armenia at present, but Ataturk is being added to 5.0.

Due to "real life" professional commitments for both Fierabras and me, the release for 5.0 has been pushed back to early April.

Sorry folks.

BTW, we need text editors. One or two people willing to write pedia entries shortens the release wait by a week or more (seriously).

Working on it every day with whatever time I have. But some of the other guys are really tied up with real life. We're trying....and yes, it will be out.

CIV Gold doesn't incorporate any other mods or components.

sorry to bug u, but i was wondering if u have a set target date? i heard about CIV gold on ModCast, and it sounds great, but i don't want to download it and then end up having to download the newest version just a week or two later

We have 3 people helping to complete 5.0, but we're all very busy and I can only assure you of my own time. I am working on it every day and I know the rest of the team remains committed.

I can say that we are 85% done - still some tweaks and testing but it's definitely getting there.

Hi all. Things are wrapping up for completion but we still have a few bugs to kick out before release. With tomorrow being Mother's Day over here, I think I'll have to bump the release to Friday.

Sorry for the extra few days, but given it's been months, what's a couple more hours? :)

Suppose you have a list of everything that will be in the new release?
Can't wait for tommorow. I mean, I can wait. I'm just excited.

I'm at work right now - 8:30 pm - still plugging away. I'm flying solo on this right now and it's simply not done for tomorrow.

What has been added to far? A tonne. :) I'll have a comprehensive list for release.

Today, alone, I finalized the Arawaks, Dene, Inuit, Navajo and Apache, and edited the Sioux, Iroquois and Tupi based on material from Colonization.

I also made some adjustments to the Hittites.

Also done and ready are the Nazca, Philippines, Malaysia, Latvia, Garamentes, Benin, Huns, Lebanon, Palmyra, Timurids, Kitara, Parthia and Xiong Nu.

Leaders done and ready: A boatload, including Akbar, Ataturk, Badur, Cheops, Constantine, Francis II, Gorbachev, Jackson, Meiji, Mursilis, Reagan, Innocent III, Pius X, Smoke Jaguar, Wu, Xerxes, and a bunch more.

LH Art replaced with better art: Basil, Bolivar, Peron, Ho Chi Mihn, Lenin, Richelieu, Cunhambebe, Cochise, Hector, Geronimo, and many others.

The North American Native civs have been realigned. The Dinniheh have been split into the Navajo and Apache. The Uppajut are plit between the Dene and Inuit. Other changes as well.

Why is 5.0 not done yet? Team members with other commitments, so I have to finish some text XMLs then do a boatload of buttons.

It moves forward - more and more every day. And I'm working overtime at a client site right now to do some of it.

Life is too hectic to set a release date for freeware and we don't have a good track record for setting release dates, but I have the next 2 weeks to work on it. So, maybe 14th of june.

Hi guys and gals,

A quick update: the last two weeks have been write-offs for modding, but I got back to it on Monday and have done a tonne - an absolutle tonne of work since then.

Everything is in place and uploaded to the CIV Gold repository on Sourceforge. Now I'm just running the mod and filling gaps for buttons, fixing text errors and art tags.

I'm really stoked about this release. It's exactly what I wanted it to be!

I have a bit more time today and some time tomorrow to continue at it. Unfortunately, making buttons is actually a time-heavy, inefficient process, so that's dragging a bit. I also need to track down a few errors with how some art is failing to display, but that happens in every release.

Thanks for your patience. I really think the end product will be worth it. :D

Hi Wyz, I just started on CG 5 again yesterday. I'll do the LH buttons.

Cool. I got a lot of them done yesterday, but there is a list of LHs not showing up properly and most need buttons:

AbuBakr
Attila
Bolivar (Colz)
Innocent III
Isaza
Lapu-lapu
Mahathir
Marcos
Mihai
Mursilis II
Nakasuk
Pachacuti
Pius X
Sinchi
Wu
Xerxes
Zenobia

That seems like a big list but I'm guessing it's the same tag issue for most of them.

It's not available to download yet. I'm just noted that everything is complete, in terms of content. Now we are fixing bits and parts. No XML errors, which is good. But some art glitches to sort out.

Will patch 3.19 delay release of v 5.0? Or is a 3.17 release still planned?

that's a good question...i would think that it wouldn't delay it, since the only thing that the patch did was fix a few bugs, change a couple things in-game, and make it so u don't have to use the CD; Civ Gold is mainly artwork for leaders, civs, units, etc., so i would think that the 3.19 patch wouldn't affect the release date of civ gold 5

Wyz_sub10
Jun 15, 2009, 05:48 PM
I'm currently working off 3.17, so I think what we'll do is finish testing with the current version (in progress - all the work is done, now it's just bug fixes) and then patch to 3.19 to see what happens.
