DaveShack Mar 04, 2009, 05:59 PM Anyone wanna apply for deputy?
I'll be gone for a week this month, and thus my deputy will have a definite and important role to play. :D
whatsgoingon Mar 04, 2009, 08:10 PM I'd like to apply for the position
DaveShack Mar 05, 2009, 12:46 AM What kind of settlement pattern do you prefer?
whatsgoingon Mar 05, 2009, 02:33 PM Usually I favor a loose city placement
Cyc Mar 06, 2009, 12:39 AM I'd like to see a lot of cities as quickly as possible. With the Celts, we should be able to do this.
whatsgoingon Mar 06, 2009, 06:37 PM that sounds good to me, I'll go with whatever will work
DaveShack Mar 07, 2009, 01:56 AM The deputy appointment goes to whatsgoingon. :)
whatsgoingon Mar 07, 2009, 04:39 PM awesome thanks!
Furiey Mar 08, 2009, 09:10 AM CommandoBob has raised something in the TNT thread about our Golden Age - we could quickly research Iron Working which would give us our Unique Unit and the good possiblity of a despotic Golden Age. I don't think that this is a good idea, we should have a good number of cities and be in a better Government before that happens so our research needs to be guided by our Government choices - do we want to go for Republic or Monarchy, perhaps we need some discussion about that quickly help guide our early research path.
heliogabalus Mar 08, 2009, 09:33 AM I concur. A golden age in despotism with few cities would be a waste. From my gut feeling I would go for Republic. However, it is possible that some events in the game or the situation we find ourselves in upon starting may make it desirable to have Monarchy soon. So let's have a look once we know the starting position.
TheOverseer714 Mar 08, 2009, 04:02 PM What do you mean by loose placement? If that means mostly CxxxC with terrain considerations, that would be fine by me, at least in the core. If its more CxxxxC with lots of wasted tiles, I'm not so sure. We want nice big cities, but we also want a strong empire. Call me a concerned citizen (AKA as a busybody;) )
whatsgoingon Mar 08, 2009, 05:33 PM Usually I play with a CxxxC, but that's in my own games. I would probably go with more of a tighter approach in this game to get a strong core of cities early on with a low amount of corruption and maximum usage of land tiles, especially if we get an early golden age triggered by the use of our UU. Anyway I hope that answers your question.
Cyc Mar 08, 2009, 09:39 PM I like what I'm reading. Mostly, I play as CyyyC.
DaveShack Mar 15, 2009, 11:30 PM A discussion on first city location can be found here (http://forums.civfanatics.com/showthread.php?t=314151).
Cyc Mar 20, 2009, 08:01 PM Domestic Leader (or would you prefer Domestic Minister?) DaveShack, it appears our next Settler will be borne this Turn Chat (Sunday). Any ideas on where we should place our second city?
Furiey Mar 21, 2009, 05:58 AM we are short of food bonuses which we need for a fast growing city and have little time to find another site. Tara is 2 tiles off the coast, it looks like there is another coastal tile off to the East. Settling on the North bank of the Tara River by the coast, 1E of our exploring Warrior may not give a high food city but it would be a useful one.

Ashburnham Mar 21, 2009, 06:54 AM 1E looks like an excellent site for a city. If it is in fact on the coast, might I suggest Moira as the city's name? It's a lovely name and is also similar to the Celtic prefix for sea (mori or morino). It would also keep with the burgeoning theme of giving our cities female names.
Furiey Mar 21, 2009, 07:41 AM Moira sounds good.
civplayah Mar 21, 2009, 09:11 AM Yep, that's a good name.
Cyc Mar 21, 2009, 10:23 AM Yes, I like the name also. But there is a river site 3 tile due NE from Tara that may also be a good second city site.
Cyc Mar 21, 2009, 11:42 PM Settlers Ho! It looks like we may be able to get two Settlers per week. Or close to it. We really need to stay on top of our city location planning. :)
Furiey Mar 22, 2009, 03:02 AM The 3NE location is a BG. That river I'm sure will provide another city site and I think we need to scout there next to find out if we have any food resources there we can use. The exploring Warrior should confirm whether it is coast or not in one more move. I'm pretty sure that that is a bit of beach with water beyond, but it could also be lake rather than the coast, we will soon see. I've suggested out exploring Warrior move N to reach the northern river and follow that back looking for resources and the next site.
Cyc Mar 22, 2009, 10:15 AM Excellent, Furiey. Thank you for your input.
DaveShack Mar 22, 2009, 02:56 PM Sorry about missing instructions this time around. I think the site that was selected was a good choice. :)
A discussion has been started for the 3rd city placement (http://forums.civfanatics.com/showthread.php?t=314982).
We should consider becoming more cultured (http://forums.civfanatics.com/showthread.php?t=314993), so I've started a discussion on that too.
Cyc Mar 22, 2009, 04:28 PM Not a problem, DaveShack.
And I am becoming more cultured. I just bought a trailer in Arkansas. :)
Furiey Mar 26, 2009, 05:59 PM It sounds like Tara is beginning to have happiness problems and currently has an entertainer slowing much needed growth. The Mayor is proposing the next build to be a Temple, but would the use of the luxury slider be more appropriate?
Bowsling Mar 26, 2009, 08:01 PM The temple was more for culture than anything else. i hadn't realized that Tara was nearing riot when i suggested temple.
Furiey Mar 27, 2009, 02:49 AM If the Tara Temple is more for culture then the discussion in the culture thread felt that our outlying cities would be better for our first Temples as they will have no culture.
Bowsling Mar 29, 2009, 02:06 PM I, with public approval, put that in to make sure we had options. If we don't want to win a culture victory, fine by me, but having that choice could save us the game, or save us from a time victory. (the boring way IMO)
And my three-hundredth post! :banana::dance::banana:
