89 units at the moment each with their own still image flc (artwork taken from the civ 2 tot fantasy expansion and Harlan Thompson’s excellent Civ 2 Lotr scenario)
89 units divided into different groups for each race so each civ has around 20-25 units including their unique units
New Advisors
New Cities
New resources (decrease in overall resources..)
New technology tree in development currently 55 technologies(no names added yet they are done by number).
29 new buildings
24 new wonders (including small wonders)
New Governments ,Currently each civ starts with the default gov and a gov specific to their personality trait at the beginning of the game 7 govs in all
No civilopedia as yet. This is a low priority at the moment until the technology tree is finalized.
That’s pretty much all that is included in the mod at the moment and as I still consider it in early beta stages, im posting it just to see if it get much of a response as to whether I should continue on with it etc and also in the hope that possible bugs may be revealed…
Bugs: Some bugs with what the last 18 civs say in negotiations, you can still see what’s being negotiated and being done etc.
Probably various crashes contact me if you find any only extensive playtesting up to the start of third age
Tech still slow to get at the moment, may be changed in the next version
To Install… First cobine the 2 zips than put the files into your civ 3 directories and if you wish you may delete any civ 3 files that are no longer being used. Remember to back up your civ 3 or make another game folder, as you will not be able to play regular civ once installed…

Neomega Sep 02, 2002, 11:25 PM How bout a screenshot or two before I go and back up civ III
Nobby Sep 03, 2002, 12:49 PM I added a couple of screenshots to the website...
Neomega Sep 03, 2002, 02:36 PM Good job Nobby, out of nowhere.... you come through with a great looking work of art, I'll have to give it a try ;)
Nobby Sep 05, 2002, 11:35 AM Great Thanks ! i would love to hear your opinion of it or anyone else thats tried it. I posted it up to see if there was any real interest in it before i decided to continue working on with it or not.
Rudi Sep 06, 2002, 06:06 PM This MOD looks absolutly amazing, and I look forward to try it. BUT.....I've downloaded both files into my EnZip directory, but I don't know how to COMBINE THEM! Right now I have two emty zip-files that give the message:"This archive is not a valid zip archive" when I try to open either one of them. Someone please help me!...tell me what to do...:crazyeye:
kring Sep 06, 2002, 11:26 PM It looks interesting. I am a definite fan of LotR/Middle Earth stuff.
Nobby Sep 07, 2002, 07:35 AM Hmm im not sure what the problem is your experienceing rudi but ive downloaded the files again myself and theres nothing wrong with them as far as i see, maybe you just got a corrupted download but as for adding them to civ 3 just unzip the 2 files to any directory
ie. C:\unzipped\WoA.43p1\War on Arda
for the first file, than copy the files in the the folder and paste it into the directory where your civ 3 game folder is which is usualy
C:\Program Files\Infogrames Interactive\Civilization III
Than just repeat the process for the second file and providing its done correctly it will work.
Hope that helps you a bit...
Rudi Sep 07, 2002, 09:42 AM :goodjob: Cheers Nobby!! I found out that the files were as much corrupted as the olympic women ice-skating contest! After the 4!!! time I Downloaded it, it finaly worked.(One time the download file -1 had a size of 63KB!!! ) The problem was that I apparently could not have any other internet-sites up, besides the two downloading-windows:confused: NOW I look forward to try it...
Curufinwe Sep 08, 2002, 01:24 PM Nooby, I was wondering if I may assist you in this. I'd be willing to work on the Civilopedia most, but other things would be alright. I'd very much like to write descriptions for certain things, and I'd be more than willing to help you. I hope you'll allow me to aid you.
Nobby Sep 08, 2002, 01:46 PM Wow i was realy hoping somebody would be willing to assist me curufinwe especialy with the civilopedia and things such as the diplomicy.txt and such,im working on a patch right now to modify resources so its not possible to have streams of elf lords and balrogs etc. Get in touch with me at i_lost_my_sanity@hotmail.com or just post here with what your capable of working on and i would love to have ya on board
Rudi Sep 11, 2002, 04:31 AM I have had a chanse to play your MOD now and it looks like an great start. A problem has happend though. The game shuts down becouse it is unable to read the file "Great Marcher.INI." I hope you can fix that. And besides the unfinished tech. tree and civilopedia, It would be a better game if the tribe-units had different colours...if that is possible. Keep up the good work!!!
Nobby Sep 11, 2002, 10:30 AM Thanks for the feedback,i will fix the problem with the great marcher and upload it with the new patch. It is possible to give the diff tribes dif colours and its somthing ill look into but i recommend turning on team colour disc in options so you can tell the dif civ units apart
Jandor Sep 12, 2002, 01:57 PM hmm, are those test of time units i see....hmmm
No but seriously good mod man :goodjob:
Guardian-Azure Sep 12, 2002, 07:41 PM if you were to have read his post... then you would realise that, yes, those are ToT units...
Jandor Sep 17, 2002, 09:09 AM Ok, i repost it:
hmm, are those test of time units i see....hmmm
No but seriously good mod man
Is that better :crazyeye:
rjgo Sep 18, 2002, 02:00 PM this is a masterpeice. if you combined your ideas with eclipse, ya'll would probally be able to publish a totally professional expansion. im talkin big. im talkin about firaxis buyin rights to the lord of the rings book and makin a real expansion. with both of yall helpin and usin your ideas. this might turn into something big like: Sid Meirs Civilization: The Lord OF the Rings.
shalom
rjgo
Noldodan Sep 22, 2002, 06:41 PM heh, i sorta agree with Rjgo, but that would be a monumental project, although they WOULD have a lot of rogue programmers/LOTR fanatics helping them:goodjob:
hehe, i'll give the first person to post what my name (Noldodan) means a pat on the back:love:
PS: hint, the name is in Quenya
kring Sep 22, 2002, 10:43 PM (High) Elf Man
Nobby Sep 23, 2002, 12:40 PM I have uploaded a new patch to the website (.49) to the websites which deals with currently known bugs and makes additions such as tech names and new resources etc...
I may now work on the civilopedia text and wonder splashes as well as some other changes i have in mind and would be happy to take suggestions for additions as well as comments about the resources. I have limited the appearence ratio and increased the disapearence ratio of nearly all resources so that one connot continously produce hourdes of magical units etc(at least not all civs anyway) Also all buildings after the first age willl now require resources to build them.
Curufinwe Sep 24, 2002, 07:01 AM I'd put Noldodan at skilled or wise (magical maybe?) witht he same element as in the DAnas, or Denethor. not high, because the noldor were the deep elves and elf is edhil and elda, or quendi.
Curufinwe Sep 24, 2002, 07:04 AM But then the dan could mean smith, as in Gwaith-i-Mirdain, coming from the word tan-.
kring Sep 24, 2002, 03:03 PM Sorry, I thought I saw adan, instead of dan. Bad eyes.
Nobby Sep 30, 2002, 12:56 PM Just to note for those interested this mod now has its own forum for bug reporting suggestions etc.. at
OR..
http://www.cdgroup.org/forums
The mod can also be downloaded as 1 big single file here which is more reliable than the geocities site approx 7.73 mb download which is the latest version 0.49.
Thanks to Elucidus for setting this up
tcwonder3 Oct 04, 2002, 12:28 PM I am getting numerous "unable to read..." errors in unit ini files. Uruk-Hai unit flc is labeled olag-hai for one. Black ship error as well (can't find out why!)
Nobby Oct 05, 2002, 11:18 AM Thanks for the info, the fact that the 2 bugs are uu's does not surprise me because i have not had time to test each of the 31 playable civs individualy. I will be releasing a patch to fix this in the future along with a the basic civilopedia and also a couple of other minor changes
Silentbob_151 Oct 06, 2002, 02:57 PM Nice work man, im a big tolken fan and cant wait to see the "Two Towers"
tcwonder3 Oct 07, 2002, 05:45 PM Interestingly, after one gets spys if you succeed in planting an agent in a civ with less technology than you and happen to choose to steal a technology, you get stuck in a closed loop in the tech tree/tech advisor that you can't get out of! The only way to get out is to close Civ3.
PCHighway Oct 08, 2002, 12:18 AM :D Looks Great:goodjob:! I’ll wait a little before downloading (getting a DSL modem soon,)
But the one thing I found strange, is that the havens is a playable civ? There are tons of havens, (Havens of Umbar, of the Falas etc.) or did you mean Valinor? If so, is that wise? This is great work, though, and im sure if I downloaded, it would be clear.:D Are you planning on updating this with the PTW exp.?
TheRockit Jan 01, 2003, 06:26 AM I believe the Havens in this mod are meant to be the Grey Havens... on the coast of Eriador, last stop in Middle Earth for the Elves taking the long journey... anyone else more familiar with the mod please correct me but I think this is right.
Hoefensfilla Feb 16, 2003, 06:08 AM This looks really great. But before I download it how long do you think it will take to load? I have a powerful computer.
Also, I am also willing to help out on the civilopedia. I don't know anything about diplomacy, etc... but the civiliopedia defintely I can help. Do you have any chat software?(AIM, ICQ or MSN?)
Supa Feb 16, 2003, 01:25 PM PTW or classic Civ3 ?
Hoefensfilla Feb 17, 2003, 02:19 AM PTW.
thamis Feb 20, 2003, 07:10 AM The direct link to your forum on CDG is: http://www.cdgroup.org/forums/tbs/civ3/index.php?h=1&pf=37
(for all those who don't want to search through all CDG to find it. ;-) )
Sir John Mar 25, 2003, 01:34 PM Its a good mod, but a Maiar shoudnt be a unit...
A maiar is name for the creatures that was right under the valar in rank. They consisted of: The balrog, The Istari, Sauron and many more... So a maiar unit would be wrong..

Celeborn Apr 07, 2003, 12:27 AM a civ3 lotr expansion?
YES PLEASE!!!
Elenhin Apr 09, 2003, 07:08 PM ...now you've got me dreaming!!! Give me the LOTR expansion pack immeadiately! *drool*
Meanwhile, I'll just figure out how to install and use mod-packs...seems to be a science of its own...

Nobby Apr 22, 2003, 05:41 PM I have uploaded a a long belated patch to this mod that i feel addresses outstandng issues with the mod, i.e mainly fixes all known crashes with the mod and adds basic civilopedia entries:
- Fixed crash with the black ship and uruk-hai
- Renamed the railroad improvement to highroad
- New Unit: thunderbolt
- Arkenstone small wonder given commercial trait
- Rudimentary civilopedia entries for units, buildings, small wonders and wonders. Just basics i.e. All you units special abilities and what the wonders do
With this patch i feel the mod stable enough to be declared version 1.00. With this i may finish my work on the mod.
kring Apr 22, 2003, 07:42 PM I will download it.
Thank you for the hard work in getting it ready.
tjedge1 Aug 18, 2003, 07:38 PM All I have to say is :goodjob:
jmrives Nov 14, 2003, 03:40 PM I downloaded the two ZIP files and copied all the files in both archives to a copy of Civ3 install on my harddrive. The program starts fine with the new splash screen (nice art work there). However, when I select New Game, nothing happens. Well, not nothing. I here the sound it makes when changing to the new game setup screen but nothing else. It just stays on the new splash screen. By the way, I am playing on a Mac.
Coke_Cola Nov 16, 2003, 11:21 AM Looks great, but I suggest redoing the city graphics, and how about a PTW or C3C patch?
Mano3 Dec 02, 2003, 11:50 AM Any chance of modifying the mod for C3C? In other words, locked alliances, or even a War for the Ring mod?
tjedge1 Dec 02, 2003, 03:43 PM I just noticed this had resurfaced so here is a link to another mod still being made. It will have all that you were asking for here. I think this War on Arda mod might be done since it hasn't been upgraded in some time.

abillclinton Feb 07, 2004, 03:26 PM Nobby make a PTW Patch!!! PLEASE!!! I think your mod sounds great but I can't play it with PTW!!!
abillclinton Feb 07, 2004, 03:47 PM Nobby, why don't you make it into a scenario???
embryodead Feb 07, 2004, 03:59 PM @abillclinton
This mod is dead for more than a year since Nobby is gone.
