... the maximum number of units that may have civ3 for a given turn?
What are the consequences to exceed this maximum number for the wonders that auto-produce units and for the upgrade of units?

I think it's arond 4000 total units in the game at one time. You just cant produce any more.

Do you mean, 4000 for one nation?
In Conquest, i think this value should be near 8000 for all nations in the game
You can "easily" reach this maximum on big maps with many civilizations

I'm pretty sure it is 8000 for Conquests.

I'm sure in Conquests you can have more than 4000 units ant it seems you're right Pounder the maximum is near 8000
Is it 2^13=8192?

8192 units on the map at any one time in Conquests. No new units will appear beyond that number. The game will pretend that units are still being made, they just won't be there.

the game actually crashes out once that limit is hit...i've seen it :D no message, just a black screen and then a CTD.

Thank you all
I'm playing such a game with great number of units
It seems when one civ reach this maximum that no new units were built, wonders which auto-produce units don't work anymore. But the game didn't crash provided not to upgrade units

MUA (Maximum Units Allowed), researched by Bamspeedy:
In PTW: 4096 units.

I didn't believe it to be possible getting this many units, but on several occasions playing AoI I've reached it. Rather disappointing too, as my armies were tearing through everything in front of them :(
