View Full Version : October 1962: Operation Mongoose
cgannon64 Sep 03, 2002, 11:10 AM This is my first attempt at making a scn, so don't expect it to be pretty (:D ). The idea is a US invasion of Cuba during the Missile Crisis, after all the Soviet nukes have been armed. It is playable as both sides, but (this is IMPORTANT) if you want to play as Cuba, and not have American money and techs, you must open up Civ3Edit, open up "Oct62Mongoose", go to Scenerio, Scenerio Properties. Under "Players", go to where it says Human Player Checkbox, uncheck it, select Player 2, and check the box. Then load and enjoy!
I gave each side loads of money, because they both have defecits (maybe a vet scn maker could help me on that).
NOTE: If you are going to download this, consider it in the 'Alpha' stage. Constructive criticism is welcomed, because you're comments will probably make it into the next version.
If you play as the American's don't be discouraged because you are heavily outnumbered:goodjob:
cgannon64 Sep 03, 2002, 11:13 AM Sorry my computer went weird on me...as I was saying: all of the Cuban units are regular, while the American's are veteran. Betware, because Cuba has nukes (I'll let you find out how many).
Anyways here it is:
_Impreza_ Sep 03, 2002, 11:36 AM This is not going to show the experience of the cuban crisis, it was an international crisis, not just regional. The implications of the internation crisis made the experience of this. If u wanna make a 1962 scenario with world map i will help.
cgannon64 Sep 03, 2002, 12:48 PM Yes, I was thinking of making a world map one...I just made this one for fun and to see if I was very bad at the editor.
I was in fact just thinking of a Global Missile Crisis scenerio. I thought of putting in the US, USSR, Western Europe, Soviet Satellites, China, and (maybe) Cuba (or just have Cuba part of the satellites). Do you think the map should be full or partial (by partial I mean, maybe no one in South America or Africa)?
Thanks I would appreciate any help with this...it will take a while.
Azale Sep 03, 2002, 03:31 PM I would fill it up.It seems to give it more realism in my opinion. But thats just my opinion.
cgannon64 Sep 03, 2002, 03:43 PM Yes, filling it up is much more realistic, but the turns get VERY long...I'm probably going to use Marla Singer's (I thought about TETurkhan's, but it was a bit too large). So, If I fill up the map, I could have:
US (including Canada)
Central America (including Carribean w/o Cuba)
South America
Western Europe
Oceania (Australia and small Pacific islands)
USSR
China
Soviet Satellites (i.e. Eastern Europe, parts of Asia, Cuba)
Africa
Middle East
India
And Maybe others I can't think of now...
However, maybe I should put Cuba as part of USSR, to guarentee that war with Cuba means war with Russia. Because afterall, this ****ing editor doesn't have diplomacy (meaning I can't make Soviet satellites allied with USSR. WHEN WILL FIRAXIS LEARN! )
Oh, by the way, NO ONE DOWNLOAD this scenerio! It sucks, I'll be completely honest!:D Tomorrow I'll start on this one---I'll call it "October 1962: Global Conflict"
Thanks _Impreza_ and Azale, I could use all the tips!:)
_Impreza_ Sep 03, 2002, 04:01 PM No not western europe, u want Europes respectful powers, Britain France and Germany seperate.
cgannon64 Sep 03, 2002, 07:06 PM Hmm...divide Europe completely, or just Britiain france and germany? If completely
completely, it goes over the 16 civ limit, so I think I'm going to make it just West Europe, thanks for the input, but I think, in the event of a war in 1962, Western Europe would be united. I think I'll compromise---I'll divide up the US and Canada, so my new lineup is:
US
Canada
Central America (includes Caribbean)
South America
Western Europe
Africa
Middle East
India
China
Oceania
USSR (includes Cuba)
Satellite nations (east europe, SE Asia
Japan
I think this would be everybody. There are three reasons I'm not going to divide up Europe---one, because it would get close to/go over the 16 limit. Two, because on a huge filled up map, turns get long enough already. And three, because politically, Western Europe would support the US in full or not at all.
Thanks for all the input guys, I hope to start the scn tomorrow, maybe get it up in a week (idealistic) or two weeks (realistic;) ).
cgannon64 Sep 03, 2002, 08:02 PM I could use some help from you guys who have volunteered to help me. I'm looking for total historical accuracy, so that means leader names. If you can give me some names/veryify these names, all help will be GREATLY appreciated.
Canada---John Diefenbaker
US---(duh) JFK
C. America---Adolfo Lopez Mateos (leader of Mexico)
S. America---Joao Goulart (leader of brazil)
West Europe--- (looking for English leader. You try wading through English history!!!)
Middle East---?
Africa---?
USSR--- (duh) Nikita Khrushchev
China--- Mao
Satellites---?
Oceania---(looking for leader of Australia. Aussies, help!)
Japan---?
India---?
Obvious note: all must be in power in 1962
THANKS!
rapid Sep 04, 2002, 12:50 PM i would recommend de gaulle or the german chanchellor as the european leader
Azale Sep 04, 2002, 04:40 PM The leader of the sattelites could be Fidel Castro. You could also make Mexico seperate and add Central America to South America.
cgannon64 Sep 05, 2002, 01:30 PM Thanks for all the help and info guys, but I'm giving up on scenerio making. My depressing first scenerio, the starting of school...I have neither the time, nor the patience (or the skill!) to make scenerios.
Will the twelve people who downloaded my scenerio please admit it was terrible?
cgannon64 Sep 05, 2002, 01:31 PM Didn't finish that post.
And I would really like it if someone made the scenerio I was planning to make (Cuban Missile crisis, on a global scale). I really want to play it, made by someone who is good and making scenerios (i.e. not me).
Azale Sep 05, 2002, 05:48 PM I could try, although I am new at scenario making.I am good with accuracy though.
cgannon64 Sep 06, 2002, 12:18 PM OK Azale, I pass the Missile Crisis torch to you. I think you should just wait until a patch (or PTW) comes with diplomacy settings in the editor. A missile Crisis scenerio would be bad without that. When it comes out though, I suggest you make it.
Azale Sep 06, 2002, 03:46 PM Yah,that's what I was going too do.I do have the ideas already formed. Here's one of my infamous lists;)

thisismysn20 Oct 22, 2002, 05:23 PM Did this ever get finishes, and if so is there a map of it???
Azale Apr 06, 2003, 08:37 AM I'm still working on it. I do have an improved Carribean Map version of the Cuban Missile Crisis though
Tiger_Nation Apr 11, 2003, 03:17 PM Your going to have to improve Communism to make sure that the whole eastern block dosen't defect.
Kennelly Apr 11, 2003, 04:49 PM Very strange. To be able to play English scenarios I had to change all the unit names from German to English ones. But now this scenario wants a German unit name?
