Anyone interested in possibly joining me in creating a mod based on the Empire trilogy of fantasy books by Raymond E Feist and Janny Wurts?
I did some work on a mod about a year ago, but never got close to finishing it. Unfortunately I moved to a different country and left the files behind, plus have no civ in my new country yet. Hope to get civ soon though.
Anyway at present I'm just wondering if there are any fans of these books out there and if so would like to get a thread going to brainstorm ideas. With a long term goal of creating a mod.
I'm thinking of a fairly simple mod. Not many different units. Little or no tech development. The game would be mostly based on:
- building a trade empire
- espionage/diplomacy
- fighting bloody wars between the great Tsurani houses of Kelewan for family honour!!!!!!!
Would be a regicide mod. You must protect the Lord or Lady of your great house at all costs.
Another idea would be to create three scenarios that attempt to tell the story of the three books. Would be hard to do though given the limited scope of what can be done with civ 3.
Vague ideas about units:
Warrior (the main unit of any great house)
Archers? (mentioned in the books, but don't play a big role usually)
Assassins (Tong assassins: stealth attack, invisible)
Spys (invisible scouts)
Honour Gaurds (elite warriors, perhaps auto-produced by a small wonder)
Great Ones (Uber powerful magicians)
Cho'ja (Powerful, insectoid creatures)
In the books the Tsurani Empire is dominated by the Great Houses. So I'm thinking each civ would have as there capital city their estate house. Other cities they build would not be cities at all, rather they would be 'holdings' (eg, trading posts, warehouses etc). If possible only the capital city/estate house could build units. The other cities/holdings would be mainly for trade purposes, to secure resources. Or for military/strategic reasons. The graphics for the cities would have to represent this.
Not sure if it is possible to limit a Civ to being only able to build units in one city. I think it could be done with resources possibly. Or another way might be to make it so that cities built, other than the Capital/Estate house, have zero production (by changing terrain stats/using corruption/resources)
Well I'll stop now. I have more ideas, but unless there are some other fans of the books out there, there isn't much point going on. The above probably makes little sense if you haven't read the books. Try Wikipedia, or Raymond E. Feist's website if you are interested. Or even better read the books! There good! Read Magician first though, the Feist book that the trilogy is a spin-off of.
