GOTM 89 Pre-Game Discussion

My PTW is still down so finishing the set-up may be delayed. For our quarterly difficult game we'll play the Zulu's at Deity on a Pangaea map. To give you a slight advantage, the Impi's will be given a defensive bombard shot at Open and Conquest classes. Good Luck!

Civilization: Zulu
Rivals: 7 preset
Barbarians: Roaming
Difficulty: Deity
Land Form: Pangaea, 70% ocean, Standard map.
Geology: 5 billion years old, Wet, Warm

(images to come later - but you're on a river, mostly grass around, with a River/Wheat, Games, and 2 BG's)

(Updated with starting images - thanks to AlanH!)

I don't mind playing "Open" if it means that all settings are normal. But with this extra help at the Open level I will have to go Predator. I'm glad, at least, that the Predator obstacles aren't greater, like the removal of a nearby luxury (now don't you get any ideas, Master Steve!) because I remember the gruesome GOTM 71 deity armageddon.

Am I brave enough, even at Conquests? We'll see. If I do it, I'll go low/no science later on. Horses and Impi can do damage early, then MDI can do the rest. My odds of winning at all would be low, I'm an average Emperor level player.

The luxury and most of all your scouts should give you a decent headstart at technology. Delay tech trading just a little bit, until you have a couple of contacts, then you can set up some good tech-brokering (but don't delay too much, otherwise they'll have researched your techs themselves; this is a delicate balance to find out...)

And if you find close by huts, don't pop them too early. If you can arrange it, pop them after you've traded for the first-tier techs and hope for a second-tier tech...

Good luck! Lanzelot
