View Full Version : unable to win with AP
Ludwitch Mar 18, 2009, 04:19 PM I play a map with 2 other civs, I spread my AP-state-religion to both of them. I hold enough votes on my own to win the religious leader vote. But for some reason there is no vote on any resolution at all. Only the vote for AO president over and over again. Any ideas what I could do?

Bolded part is the reason. If you have enough votes to vote yourself into victory, you can't win. Just invade another nation, vassalize it, then force it to vote for you. Problem solved! :goodjob:
IPEX-731BA5DD06 Mar 18, 2009, 04:40 PM Try reloading the game from a save, I had the same experience in a recent Emperors cookbook game.
I had 7 other civ's, all had AP religion, but only got President votes, I reloaded a save and I got the religious vote.
I knew it worked because another civ built the AP, I took the city off them, adopted the religion, and never got a vote for diplomatic, though they were able to bring it up twice. I loaded a save and bang, got it first time.
Try that, it should solve the problem
IPEX-731BA5DD06 Mar 18, 2009, 04:43 PM Gooblah, Apostolic Palace is different from the U.N. you can vote yourself religious victory by having 96% or votes as long as ALL other civs have the religions, if it state religion or not.
Ghpstage Mar 18, 2009, 04:44 PM The best method is to make a few good friends, spread AP religion to most of they're cities, then spread to one of each of your enemies cities for what is commonly known as an AP cheese win! :goodjob:
Ludwitch Mar 18, 2009, 05:42 PM I played a little further, still trying to win the game. When my vote count dropped right under the threshold and I could not longer vote myself victor, there was the vote. To get the votes I invaded and vassaled a nation, through this came over the threshold again, waited for the vote, and there it came. Right after I dropped under the threshold again! And my vassal votes for himself, how can I force him to vote for me?
There is something seriously wrong with my gameplan. No victory was so difficult and annoying. Ever!

 Seriously? Hmm...I did not know that. Good to know, though, thanks! :goodjob:
pianoman1242 Mar 18, 2009, 09:15 PM I think vassals vote for you unless they are a candidate, not sure about that though. It's the only possible explanation that i can think of.

100% correct.
Ludwitch Mar 19, 2009, 06:00 PM Finally did it, thanks for the help. Somebody should definitely write a comprehensive guide and post it in the war academy. It is very hard to find out how this works exactly.
Gumbolt Mar 19, 2009, 06:14 PM I had a play with AP in my last proper game.
The tip is to set up the AP religion as a secondary religion.
1. let AI spread to your land and spread it.
2. Start a religion in your land. Spread this wisely.
3. Build AP. You may need to switch religions for this.
Spread religions to all the AI. Spies to switch civics or gifting missionary works here. I would be placing the missionaries in all the Ai offshore single island cities. Larger cities give more votes.
For a non vassel Ai to vote for you they need +9 on the diplomacy scale. Gifting techs might help here. Friends really do help on this game.
Do note you can still win AP dip victory even if you dont have the Ap religion as your own. Doing this halves your AP member votes. Which might help on the 96% part.
All in all theres a number of variables you can play around with.
As for Ipex Ap win with Sury. I didnt see that coming with our low military. :goodjob:
