I hope you have better luck than me running civ assuming you have Vista. :)

I still haven't got it to load again although I think I know what the problem is. :)

I finally get back from vacation, and find all the teams have finished.

6th of 15 teams...not too bad, overall. But we obviously still have a lot to learn from the Russians (and Ukrainians) and Murky.

Congrats on the new laptop, JH, and good luck getting Civ working on it.

Fellow Misfits,

The sign-up thread for SGOTM10 is up, and the theme is nuclear armageddon. :nuke:

So far only myself and Mastiff have signed up. If we are to have a Misfits team this time around, we need to get our existing members signed up and probably recruit some new players. There are some SGOTM rookies in the sign up thread -- should we extend invitations to join us? Do any of our existing members have friends who might be invited?

I hope we can come up with enough players to continue with a Misfits team.

Thoughts on SGOTM10

Obviously, we need to BLine Manhattan to win via conquest. Military production needed to be ramped up.

Thought on Military production. Let's wage pillage wars with fast units (horse-based 2 movers) to earn GG points. Save the GG's for Military Academies. Pillaging will keep enemy AI's smaller and tech backwards

So Military Tradition would be BLined after Manhattan starts

Having a sea city with good production would be nice for subs w/tact nukes to move around faster

Note taht tac nukes have a short radius that theyre good to go in. But they're ALOT cheaper. Imagine the more we can use tact nukes vs icbms the better

Cavalry upgrades to what? Tanks right?

With Nuking cities, whats the point of collateral damage units? None really, fast moving units are better!

First the good or bad news however you look at it. :)

I managed to get BTS to run with version 3.19 and the Buffy Mod and no sign that this wasn't valid for HOF submission before the game launched. :)

After so many installs of Civ I found if I run it from the autorun from the disc itself not using the desktop shortcut I made or games folder where BTS is installed I can then actually run BTS as an administrator. Voila no more problems hopefully. ;)

There must be a lot easier way to do this but at least I found a way that works at last so let the nuking begin.

Glad to hear the computer issues are resolved, Sleepless.

I am thinking we should get at least two and maybe 3 additional members if we can. This game will have fewer total turns due to the Renaissance start, but more members playing turnsets would still be good to have. People will be busy, go on vacation (especially if this lasts through the end of the year), etc.

Do we want to try to invite specific people to join us, or just let AlanH assign us some new folks randomly? There are a number of new (to SGOTM, anyway) players in the sign up thread, we could ask a few if they would like to join us. Edzako listed himself as comfortable on Emperor, and there are a couple other Prince-level players available.

Thoughts?

PS: Which techs do we start with for a Renaissance start? I need to start up a game with the listed settings and see just what we begin with, and how the first couple cities work. I understand they start at size 2 with some basic buildings, but am not sure which ones.

Re: getting nukes -- I think we are going to need to focus on our economy and some rapid expansion at the beginning, and only push for Fission and Manhattan Project a bit later. Both are expensive techs, and nukes (as JH noted) cost a lot of hammers. We are going to need both decent beaker output and a couple strong hammer cities. And some uranium, or course. :nuke:

I agree that a decent coastal city will be important. Big and Small is pretty variable, depending on whether you start on the big or the small, but some naval power is going to be necessary.

I started up a game just to see what the settings were like.

We know all techs up to Edu, Nat, P/P, GP and Astro.

Religions I got 2 after a couple of turns so there will be some religious differences early on. Do we or don't we adopt an early religion? More thoughts about this when the thread opens.

Buildings. My first 2 cities had a gran, aqua, forge and where applicable a lighthouse. All subsequent cities had the same.

Also the possibilty to change civics straight away. More thoughts on this later in the new thread.

P.S I wouldn't say my last computer was old but I didn't realise the animals moved around. :)

Thanks for the info, Sleepless.

Liberalism still available? If so, should be quite a rush for that.

Interesting techs to start. Lots of choices to make.

This will definitely be interesting, and may create significant differences among the teams. I believe the distribution is mostly random -- I am assuming you got one in each city? There will definitely be some religious diplo impact, and with aggressive AIs to start with.... More once the threads open, but warfare is highly likely.

Interesting. No library, I note. :( Getting our research up to speed is going to be a high priority. We are certainly going to be "light" on buildings compared to an ancient era start.

Also the possibilty to change civics straight away. More thoughts on this later in the new thread.

Yes, something to consider. I will need to start a couple games with these settings and think about it. Also want to look at a few Big and Small maps to refresh my memory.

P.S I wouldn't say my last computer was old but I didn't realise the animals moved around. :)

Heh. I know the feeling. My machine is pretty old and strains mightily on big maps. Have to keep the graphics and bells-n-whistles settings low.

Looking forward to this one. :)

Not much of anything and early game any teching is going to be interesting to say the least. :)
