View Full Version : Lincoln of Egypt, Emperor-Epic-Fractal
Bleys Mar 21, 2009, 01:03 PM Havent checked out this one yet, so if its not a great map, we can replace it or something. Title says it all:
Lincoln of Egypt, Emperor level, Epic speed, Fractal map (low sea levels), Choose Religions, Unrestricted Leaders-

Bleys Mar 21, 2009, 03:07 PM Only at 2200 BC, lots of good sports on today, including both Man U and Chelsea getting beat. I just felt like I had to tell this story. This wasnt the first map I generated. I actually played the first one a bit, and it sucked horribly, for a kind of dumb reason. It was a broken-continent type of Fractal, and our chunk of it had 2 other AIs on it. Holy Roman Empire and Inca. Thats a LOT of yellow AIs on one piece of land, LOL.
But I really popped out of the game to once again compliment BUG on this incredible Dotmap tool. Here is mine for 2200 BC, along with a brief opening sit-rep:
Settled 1NE to grab the Wheat, and teched AH right out of the gate while building a Worker. Starting with Ag and the Wheel rocked on this map, and I got pretty lucky with huts, getting a Warrior, Fishing, and Sailing out of the 3 I managed to pop. I am just about to kick out my first settler and grab that Stone-FP spot and I am definitely looking at Stonhenge and the Mids, at least. So many forests, I might try to sneak in the HGs, as well as a few key Marble Wonders like the GL in the Cap, the HE in one of those cities in the South, and maybe MoM, Sistine (if I can get the free Pocket Golden Age from Music especially).
My Empire, with first and second city targets noted.

To the East. I like to use a 2nd color for "disputed" territory. It also helps me decide if I want to keep or raze any AI city in those areas between us, or even a Barb city. One reason I like Low Sea Level is that you get a bit more land and that means more cities and more area for Barbs to build cities as well.

SE. Not a real huge Jungle, but plenty of good land. Hoping there will be some AI Wars down here.
http://i269.photobucket.com/albums/jj80/Bleys_bucket/Linc%20of%20Egypt/Civ4ScreenShot0054.jpg
West and SW. Note how handy it is to plunk in the AIs cities. It will come in helpful later when you have to adjust around them.

This is a nice looking map so far, especially for Dotmapping, lots of options for cities here. Being PHI I am definitely thinking about a more compact city layout, since I will want to be running specialists everywhere if I get the Mids, which shouldnt be a problem at all, and still be able to crank out Settlers and Workers. No question this tool is my most favorite feature of BUG. Hats off to you guys, amazing program.
Betato Mar 21, 2009, 04:28 PM Ok, I gave it a try and got to 40AD.. tried to stop at 1ad, but forgot it in the meantime :)
The map is pretty much won by map generator... Thebes is an incredible city and we have access to a vast amount of resources. I decided I was going to settle a good amount of priests in thebes while expanding as much as I could. As I haven't payed much attention while playing, haven't really scout the world.. think I'll have to start trading maps soon (Exploring is always my weakest)
I researched alphabet soon and I started to do some diplomacy.. Decided to have all potential backstabbers in war with each other so I could tech peacefully.

Later on, different Ai's declared on each other, so this is the situation on 40ad.
http://img12.imageshack.us/img12/5418/military.jpg
And that's mainly all I've done.. As i stated before, played it in a rush, so there are a few mistakes, but I think we're in quite a powerful position to enter into one of the wars once we have enough tech lead (Already studied Civil Service, so Maces may not be that far away)

This is an overview of the empire (still need a few settlers to fill the holes, but we managed to grab enough land for a while I think)

And this is an overview of Thebes and Heliopolis

Shall we post the saves or is it ok with a review like this one? hope to see more people playing :)

No need to post saves, unless you had some save-specific questions, I suppose. This is a very casual thing. Threads scroll off the page so quickly here, but if a few people get to playing these, it adds a bit to the enjoyment sometimes, and is definitely educational.
But the main goal here is a twist in the fun. Seeing the combos of AIs, trying to remember your own, heh, its got a certain sense of freshness, so to speak, like Mad Scientists RPCs.
I do agree this map is very easy, but to be honest, its not un-fun to be able to be a bit more creative in a game like this, expand the usual grind.
A couple comments on your plans,
Leveraging the Priest Specialist is a great idea, how many Great Proph's can we get settled in our cities? Will you spread them out a bit, put one in your HE city, and one or two in other Production cities? I can see us generating a serious pile of them. Need some Scientists though, get to Philo ASAP and build the AW.
Did you consider WC rushing Mehmed? It seems a shame to waste a shot at CHA-promoted WCs, heh, I got a lot of Combat II, Flanking II ones just from the Barbs. But I bet a good little pile might have taken Mehmed out, he can be a real thorn in a map like this. Grouchy old guy, like me, heh. :)

As we're under burocracy, I believe settling in our capitol makes the prophets much more profitable (worth 7.5 :gold: 3 :hammers: and 3 :beakers:) which Oxford will maximize even more.
I thought about rushing on mehmed, but I believe we have enough land for now, and as we're sharing religions I'm running my full espionage against him (as courthouses were built I started running a few spyes in a few citys, so soon we'll be able to start stealing one tech or two)
Philosphy is being researched for AW, which will be built at full speed on Thebes. what about trying to get The Great Library too? Literature will also enable HE so we can start pumping out units to prevent from a diplomacy turn of events. Once it's done, I think beelining engineering for a trebuchet/elephant/xbow attack will allow us to take at least 1 civilization down.. As everybody hates everybody, it's a matter of choosing the target carefully (I'll try to take a look at how the wonders are distributad before choosing the target)
Now I think I'm needing a scientist to make an academy in Thebes, as 80% of our research comes from there.
Artichoker Mar 22, 2009, 09:56 PM Looks like a good start...Ivory+Charismatic means very high happy cap, and very good prospects for military.

The hammer bonus from bureau is applied to settled prophets, but prophets generate gold and not commerce so there is no gold multiplier from bureau.
Bleys Mar 23, 2009, 12:55 AM True, but Market/Grocer/Bank are something I always build in my Cap almost as soon as they are available.
Still, if I get a really strong looking Holy City, I will consider settling them there, for future +gold stuff like Wall Street, etc. Shrine + Settled Prophets is a good combo.
TheMeInTeam Mar 23, 2009, 02:55 AM Priest specialists? What are those ?
Haha. This is a really fun/easy map.
To 10 AD:
Give me a break panthers...coming from out of sight to insta rape.

After that I build the pyramids...after settling five cities. Stone is good.

War breaks out.

More war breaks out. I stay NSR because these guys are way more pushy when annoyed in terms of the DoW.

Nothing speeds research like good use of GPP.

Waiting for barb city to grow to take it. I don't mind 1 off coast for the hammers saved.
http://i577.photobucket.com/albums/ss213/CivIVTMIT/lincoln%20of%20egypt/Civ4ScreenShot0010.jpg
That's a lot of cities. Behind in tech for sure right NarutoavatarDBZ?. Expansion increases research in the long run, not decreases! And it doesn't have to murder you short term either.
http://i577.photobucket.com/albums/ss213/CivIVTMIT/lincoln%20of%20egypt/Civ4ScreenShot0011.jpg
Yay for 10 cities/more on way!
Bleys Mar 23, 2009, 10:27 AM Haha. This is a really fun/easy map.
Yeah, heh, I think these are a blast. I may just start going with Random Personalities too, if the maps are this easy.
pindicator Mar 26, 2009, 11:27 PM This is a fun idea for a series -- I don't know if I'll ever have time to finish a game, but I'll share what I can as I go.
went with the war chariot rush, which as soon as I saw horses in the fat cross i just had to find a sap of an AI to rush. Thank you, Mehmed! 6 War Chariots took out his 3 cities.
I've expanded to 10 cities at 5BC, and easiliy have enough land blocked off to add another 10 more. I'm expanding as fast as the economy will let me!
http://i424.photobucket.com/albums/pp323/jwmoore04/Civ4ScreenShot0214.jpg
My tech pace is a little slower than others. But I still have a healthy lead.
http://i424.photobucket.com/albums/pp323/jwmoore04/Civ4ScreenShot0215.jpg
While I wasn't expanding, I was using the stone to build wonders. Stonehenge, Oracle, Pyramids, and Chichen Itza (prophet points, baby!) have all gone in Thebes, and the 3 Great Prophets have all gone into what was once the nadir of the Viking civilization:
http://i424.photobucket.com/albums/pp323/jwmoore04/Civ4ScreenShot0216.jpg
Cyrus is a little worrisome -- will he declare at pleased? -- he is almost finished filling out the land he has available. It may be worth it to take him out and secure the entire east. But more likely you will see me aggressively expand all the open area around me.
champ82 Apr 02, 2009, 09:19 AM Was away from town for a while, then my internet was out for two days.
I did keep a log…but I’m feeling lazy.
Very powerful combonation. Built stonehenge, built oracle COL, founded religion, settled many great priests and merchants in shrine city, built a lot of wonders including mids, GL, parthenon, SOZ, Angor Wat. Ran rep, moved capital to shrine city, first city spot became GP farm. Has science at 100% before 1200AD, though it didn’t always stay there.

Brenus made moves on Hatty and FDR, vaselized them. Then he messed with Bismark. I invaded Mehmed around 1200AD. I forgot when I finished him. Maybe a century after finishing Mehmed I vasilized Bizmark and attacked Brenus. I told Bizmark what to research which was nice, got Bio, medicine and communism a lot earlier than usual. Kept my border with Cyrus reasonably well guarded, he was pleased or friendly most of the time. Took 2 or 3 of Brenus’ cities with riflemen and cannons then took a break. Built up my infastructure, built my factories and coal plants, wall st., golden age switched to emancipation, free speech, state property stayed in OR and Rep. Then I came after Brenus with infantry and cannons, later some tanks. He had one stupid one square in the middle of FDR’s territory so I couldn’t finish him off (without finishing off FDR.) Hatty and FDR broke free, Hatty became Brenus’ master. Did some more building, went to FM and founded Sushi, Jewlers and CC. Built some more wonders. Got my rails all set up to invade Hatty, had a few bombers and paratroopers. Razed 2 of her cities and took over 2. Domination victory 1840. Haven’t done domination since noble, when I turned off space and culture.
Final thoughts – Emperor is just a matter of the map with me. This one had a great homeland. Spreading my religion to Bizmark made Brenus go after him so I didn’t have to worry about him, it weakened Bizzy B, who could have been a tech threat, and made Brenus a large, backwards, paper tiger. It kept one border safe while I took care of Mehmed to get big and bad. Now my games where I'm next to Shaka and Hannibal, Shaka and Genghis, and Shaka and Gilgamesh on the other hand...
-Bleys, I disagree with your advice of spreading around settled great people. My uber priest and merchant , and later scientist city was amazing. I did wall st. and Oxford there, it was really nice. Considering I was running Rep, the settle money, beakers, hammers and food made a good city that was both Oxford and Wall St. PHI is so versitile and I realized if used right it can compete or even outdo FIN or ORG for economy.
http://i574.photobucket.com/albums/ss188/champ82/LincolnOfE-Capital0000.jpg
Uh...I meant to take the screen shot with the cursor over the specialists - there are actually 3 GS, 4 GMs, and 5 or 6 GPs. Does anybody know why my screenshots have the title in them and how I can stop it?
Yeah, PHI is awesome. Cha is awesome. Egypt is good (better, perhaps too good with PHI). The map was easy.
