View Full Version : The Next Turn Session?
Cyc Mar 23, 2009, 01:41 PM I'm starting this thread so that when we finish a Turn Session, like yesterday's, we will have somewhere to post about when the next should be played. This thread can be used the entire game, just adding to the threads end when the concern arises.
So how about this Wednesday? Can we get Instructions done by then? Is that a good day for you? As we do Sunday Turn Sessions in the morning, I'm thinking the weekday TSs should be in the evening (I'm talking my time - USA). So Wednesday, Mar 25th at 0300 UTC?
DaveShack Mar 23, 2009, 02:41 PM Sounds good to me.
Bowsling Mar 23, 2009, 03:52 PM could we do a bit earlier? that is ten o'clock in my timezone, and i'll have to get up early the next morning.
Cyc Mar 23, 2009, 03:59 PM Say 0100 UTC? That would be 1800 hrs (6pm) in CA and 2000 hrs (8pm) for you. Correct?
And is that too early for DaveShack?
Furiey Mar 23, 2009, 05:12 PM Best of luck, too late/early for me on a workday.
Cyc Mar 23, 2009, 05:29 PM Thank you, Furiey. I plan Sunday mornings for people in your neck of the woods. I was hopin' to see you there. What is your horse's name anyway? I'll bet it's a beauty.
Furiey Mar 23, 2009, 07:39 PM I popped in quickly but unfortunately that's feeding time!
DaveShack Mar 24, 2009, 12:29 AM I think I'll be stuck in a meeting, at least for the first part. But it's always been hard to hit a time that is convenient, so no worries.
Darkwish Mar 25, 2009, 04:23 PM Major bummer for me, on Weds. am busy until nearly 0200 UTC. Hey since I've never actually [/i]participated[/i] in these events, how long does the does it take to play a turn session ?
Furiey Mar 25, 2009, 05:19 PM At the moment about an hour. As our nation grows that will get longer, but people pop in and out as they have the time.
Cyc Mar 26, 2009, 05:59 PM So shall we say Sunday at 2000 UTC? That would be 1300 hrs (PDT) in California and 1600 hrs (EDT) in New York. Work for everyone? Hope I got that correct.
Bowsling Mar 26, 2009, 07:57 PM that won't work for me, but there is nothing to change to, I am busy friday, saturday, and sunday this week and the next. otherwise, it'd work fine.
Cyc Mar 26, 2009, 08:02 PM That's ok, billybones27. I realize the suspense really gets to you. I would recommend running for President one day, so you could learn to appreciate the minutes in-between turns when you win.
;)
Bowsling Mar 26, 2009, 08:07 PM maybe once the stupid disk drive starts working again and I can play civ. i've been missing it terribly:cry:
Cyc Mar 30, 2009, 10:17 PM So when is the next Turn Session, DaveShack? Wednedy? Thursday?
Want me to start an Instruction Thread?
DaveShack Apr 01, 2009, 07:04 PM We're a bit short on discussion for what should happen next.
I'm thinking Saturday 9AM Arizona time (1600 UTC).
Cyc Apr 01, 2009, 07:10 PM Sounds good to me. I'll get me thread up in a bit. Then I'll start a discussion.
DaveShack Apr 01, 2009, 07:25 PM The turn thread is up already. Tech and the governor/mayors will be our big short term need. :)
Furiey Apr 02, 2009, 03:11 PM Just seen the time change to 20:00 UTC, so I'll be there!
DaveShack Apr 03, 2009, 07:34 PM The time change is probably called off, sorry.
Furiey Apr 04, 2009, 01:08 AM Oh, well, have fun, hopefully we'll have another city by the end of the session.
DaveShack Apr 06, 2009, 02:01 AM I'm thinking the next session will be Wednesday 10PM Tucson (0500 UTC Thursday).
It's unfortunate that my playing times are unlikely to attract many to the chat, but hard to avoid.
TheOverseer714 Apr 06, 2009, 06:32 PM Barring any objections, I'd like "3rd city to be named later" changed to Maeve. It's build queue can be made to be Curragh=>Temple=>Worker=>Curragh. I would also humbly request a couple of warriors from a Barracks be sent to help keep my occupants happy and safe.
CommandoBob Apr 07, 2009, 01:52 PM I'm thinking the next session will be Wednesday 10PM Tucson (0500 UTC Thursday).

Wednesday, April 8th? I might be able to be involved in real time. Is Arizona on Daylight Savings Time? I'm in the Dallas-Fort Worth Metroplex of Texas, for time reference.
DaveShack Apr 07, 2009, 04:07 PM Arizona is not on DST, something about having too much daylight already. :mischief:
I think Dallas-Fort Worth is central daylight, right? So it is 2 hours later.
Cyc Apr 07, 2009, 04:37 PM Ya, Arizona doesn't celebrate MLK's birthday either. Something about them standing in the sun too long. :mischief:
DaveShack Apr 08, 2009, 10:29 AM  Sure we do. We weren't even the last state to do so.
I guess the media went nuts over the time period we didn't, but overlooked it when we did.
CommandoBob Apr 08, 2009, 10:44 AM Texas celebrates Confederate Heroes Day on January 19 (Robert E Lees' birthday) and has since at least the 1930s.
We also have a Confederate Memorial Day, April 26th.
Since MLK Day is the 3rd Monday in January, both it and Confederate Heroes Day can occur on the same day.
Cyc Apr 08, 2009, 04:59 PM  Sure we do. We weren't even the last state to do so.
I guess the media went nuts over the time period we didn't, but overlooked it when we did.
Oh, sorry. I guess I did miss (or forget) Arizona changed. Good for you. I was living in Tucson briefly then and saw U2 @ ouh of aah right after AZ said no. U2 played the song in my sig (among others) that highlighted that decision. Glad you made the change.
Furiey Apr 11, 2009, 03:01 AM Are we having one this weekend?
DaveShack Apr 11, 2009, 03:06 AM Friday was my wife's B-day and I completely forgot about setting up a play session.
I think Monday night will be the soonest it could be, at 10pm again. (0500 Tuesday UTC)
Furiey Apr 11, 2009, 03:13 PM I may or may not be there right at the end, depends whan I get up. It's a national holiday in the UK so no work for me!
Happy Birthday to Mrs DaveShack.
Bowsling Apr 11, 2009, 03:20 PM will you put up the instruction thread for next T/C?
Furiey Apr 13, 2009, 04:10 AM Arrive looking to see if another session has been played only to re-read and see that is Tuesday morning GMT not Monday morning. Doh!
We still need an Instruction Thread though.
Cyc Apr 16, 2009, 09:41 AM So when do we get to play again?
Have we decided on when to revolt? Our next tech?
DaveShack Apr 19, 2009, 01:18 PM Next session Tuesday 10pm Arizona (-7 UTC) = 0500 UTC Wed.
Cyc Apr 23, 2009, 10:52 PM I'm guessin' this Saturday, around 0900 hrs yer time, DaveShack?
DaveShack Apr 24, 2009, 04:07 PM I have an appointment this Saturday morning. Anyone want to volunteer to run it?
CommandoBob Apr 24, 2009, 05:30 PM I might be able to follow along on the chat thingee (first time to use it in-game, :old: that I am), but I'm not sure about trying to do that and playing the turn.
CommandoBob Apr 24, 2009, 05:34 PM Um, we need an instruction thread for the next turn session...
Furiey Apr 25, 2009, 03:43 AM It's just like keeping a detailed turn log as you go, do a move or so, alt-tab to chat, type what you've done, alt tab back. It obviously slows you down, but not that much. I find trying to follow the instructions slows you down most, working out what you have and what you haven't got instructions for, as the detail varies from city to city and it's easy to miss something.
DaveShack Apr 25, 2009, 10:32 AM I scheduled it for Sunday at 9am my time.
civplayah Apr 26, 2009, 01:28 PM Is Arizona in Mountain Time?
DaveShack Apr 26, 2009, 05:24 PM Arizona is mountain standard = pacific daylight.
Falcon02 Apr 26, 2009, 05:30 PM Will there be one more turnchat before May?
DaveShack Apr 27, 2009, 07:57 PM I don't think I'll be able to play one before next month, but wouldn't object to the President-elect getting started by acting as DP. :)
Cyc Apr 28, 2009, 11:31 AM Might as well, civplayah. President DaveShack will ultimately be responsible for any actions you take, so that should take some weight off your shoulders. :)
Cyc Apr 28, 2009, 02:51 PM Rather than let the game wander, I'll volunteer to be the Designated Player. Let's say Thursday night. I'll post an Instruction threa and come up with a definite time later. Thursday night/evening Pacific Time (PDT).

You can play some TCs. I would like to play a some, though.
Cyc Apr 28, 2009, 03:51 PM You can play some TCs. I would like to play a some, though.
Actuay, civplayah, this T/C would go on DaveShack's watch. I will keep in contact with you about this T/C. Hopefully you can attend and pick up some pointers.
DaveShack Apr 29, 2009, 06:59 PM Thanks, I got swallowed up by a black hole at work and just now surfaced to see if anything had happened.
Cyc May 13, 2009, 10:17 PM Where is our President? Should we start a recall discussion?
DaveShack May 15, 2009, 02:40 AM Manages to escape the black hole for a few minutes...
Have you tried PMs etc?
Cyc May 15, 2009, 10:32 AM Well, after the limbo period at the end of your Term, DaveShack, I finally PMd civplayah on 05/03. That was the last time I PMd him. Since then civplayah has only posted in these forums saying he was going to play the save in the near future and then asking for a postponment. President civplayah has not upheld any of the requirements of the job description.
This is normal for civplayah. You remember how he handled his Presidency in the CIV DemoGame. He appointed me as his Vice President there (actually it was King and backup) and then split. Didn't hear from him for weeks. If he didn't want the postion then and now, he should not have accepted it. This Term has been nothing but a waste of time, in regards to the President's obligations. If civplayah wanted to trash this game, he could'nt have chosen a better way. I believe we need to recall him from office. I have already received Citizen's Complaint via PM from a Hibernia citizen.
CommandoBob May 15, 2009, 10:56 AM Hmm.
According to the Term III-President (http://forums.civfanatics.com/showthread.php?t=319627), no one has volunteered for the office of Vice President....
Cyc May 15, 2009, 12:49 PM In the "Appointment Act" thread civplayah created in the main forum, he asked me if I would like to be Vice President on May 3rd. On the same day, I said I would be in this Instruction thread post (http://forums.civfanatics.com/showpost.php?p=8048629&postcount=11). I could see civplayah was having a lot of trouble and stepped in to help. But we're now in the middle of the month and he has just bailed on all of his responsibilities. I think he needs the boot.
I can resign from the Vice President position if this will help the situation.
CommandoBob May 15, 2009, 02:07 PM I can resign from the Vice President position if this will help the situation.
As VP, couldn't you just begin doing the duties of the President in his abscence? Resiging as VP seems to be the wrong decision...unless there is something in the Constitution about the matter.

 That's the same thing he did to me in the CIV DemoGame. Sorry. Been down that road.
CommandoBob May 15, 2009, 03:52 PM Ah, now I understand why you want to remove him from office.
Cyc May 20, 2009, 12:44 PM
Must be the Summertime blues.
Cyc Jun 18, 2009, 07:38 AM Are we looking at this Friday, Mr. President?
TheOverseer714 Jun 18, 2009, 02:44 PM Yeah, I need to get the thread up, sorry about that. The tremendous interest by our citizens is causing me to be forgetful.
CommandoBob Jun 18, 2009, 05:11 PM I will get a Domestic Analysis up and posted tonight.
Cyc Jun 29, 2009, 09:39 PM I will be having a T/C before the weekend. On the road again Wednesday. Will have a better idea of my schedule then. Stay tuned.
