This is not a city thread, as I'm not running for Mayor, but more of a neighborhood thread. It is to promote beautiful Fanatika Square the heart of the city of Bavaria.

One one side of the square is our lovely seat of government, a large seat, carved out of rock. On the other side is a row of huts containing our growing Business District. In the central square, the forest has been cleared to create a grassy common.

I'm all for building a row of "townhouses" alongside the square, and in fact, have just begun construction.

Anyone else joining me in building the core of our capital?

What about renaming the subsidories of the square?

I propose the "square" is a district of bavaria (like the "Victory District" is for governmental buildings).

For the VD, i chose "Quarter" for the subsets.
This would mean having "Business Quarter" and "Group Quarter" in the FS. Just think about it ;-)

The FS is located next to the sea-tiles, the VD at the palace.

Please also cross-link this thread to the city-thread of bavaria.
Please remove the city view picture in this thread, as it is redundant with the city-thread picture we already have. Nothing is more annoying than reading/viewing the same things over and over.

I welcome everyone to Fanatika Square! Mayor Dis, I think your idea is a good one. Let's say Fanatika Square is the high-rent edge of the Business Quarter, across from the Palace.

We *have* to have another abbreviation for "Victory District"!

Here is a very basic map of the square showing initial city lots. Business lots are on the left and bottom. Palace is on the top. Residential lots to the right. I'll try to do a better map when I have the chance, including labels

ok. we need to do some adjustments:
the governmental districts need to be around the palace...
so the palace should have our foreign embassies, the departments and the provincial and city administration around it.
on the back, the governmental houses and mansions of the leaders are placed. this all will ensure our officials have close contact to the president.
as the palace front is directed to the sea, in that direction the business district will attach...
i will see if i can do a picture of what my vision is.
if you have any proposals for the naming of the governmental district, feel free to post. im no good namefinder.

now here is my proposal....

top square (at mt.victory) is the governmental district. (names are subject to change propably).
the southers square is the fanatikan square with the businesses and the citizen group headquarters.

the residential areas for normal citizens (non officials) will be on the left and right of the map.
high priced housing is near the waterfront and mt. victory.

thats why i placed them there. they are also in direct vincinity of businesses and groups as well as our government district.
this way, many people of different flavor could visit us.

Why the heck do the business's have water front views?

disorganizer
Sep 11, 2002, 01:10 AM
Because the water area is a commercial area ;-)
Of course, higher prices will later have to be payed for waterfront or government front offices :-P

Shaitan
Sep 11, 2002, 06:45 AM
I'll take a lakefront home. The offices of AP&N should be close to the eateries. I'll need to wine and dine some clients, plus I'll need ready access to booze in the unlikely event that I loose a case. ;)

Through you do understand that as we get more cities leaders can choose to move elseware (and move their department HQ with them). The only limit their is to buildings is the Palace and the Forbidden Palace as those are Real Game places.

Shaitan
Sep 11, 2002, 04:20 PM
The three assemblies (Executive, Legislative and Judicial) should keep their offices together. That is, all of the Executive offices should be in the same city, all of the Legislative offices should be in the same city, and all of the Judicial offices should be in the same city. Governors will actually have two offices - one in their home province and one in the Legislative Assembly.

disorganizer
Sep 12, 2002, 12:52 AM
The departments can freely choose where to move their offices, but at the moment all is in bavaria.

Shaitan
Sep 12, 2002, 02:38 AM
That doesn't make much sense, dis. If the President is in the capital (which I hope will always be the case) the Executive offices need to be there too. All 3 justices work from the same court in a triumvirate. They cannot hold separate court in 3 different places. The Senate needs a single place to meet. Each branch has to be located in a single place.

disorganizer
Sep 12, 2002, 04:03 AM
Why not? Modern communication via horse or light-signals will do.

If not, we must define that.

The Senate will be the only partly exception, as the governors will have a local administrational building in their province, but only an office in the Senate building.

Shaitan
Sep 12, 2002, 05:25 AM
Well, why have a senate building or a capital? Or even offices? Leaders could just send horse couriers and light signals from their homes.

disorganizer
Sep 12, 2002, 06:37 AM
They would have to apply for the home-office project ;-)

Now to get some sense into this discussion:
Should we define
A) all governmental buildings stay in the capitol of the nation
or
B) all branches must stay together in one city. the senate and the executive branch have to be in the capitol.
?

Shaitan
Sep 12, 2002, 06:40 AM
I'd say that all leader offices for a particular branch must be in the same city. The cities that may house branches of the government should be restricted to the capital and forbidden palace cities.

disorganizer
Sep 12, 2002, 06:41 AM
And also, if the moval of a branch is considered, how many of the leaders have to vote for it? Or will we citizen-poll that?

Shaitan
Sep 12, 2002, 07:04 AM
A majority of the branch should suffice.

Dis, I think your plan has potential for about a millenia from now. Right now our palace is a hunk of rock, our gov't offices are corners of that hunk of rock, and our business district is 8 wattle and daub huts, in various stages of constructions.

My original plan was more aimed at where we are right now. I expected to expand (somewhat organically) as the city grows. Here is more or less what i had in mind, and pardon the crude drawing, you have better design tools than I do.

Blue=existing Biz
Black=gov
Red=Residential
Green=park/common
White lots= empty/unassigned

Shaitan
Sep 12, 2002, 12:01 PM
I like this plan. I want a house on the slopes of Mt. Victory! :)

Danke
Sep 12, 2002, 12:01 PM
Continuing:

Note that the residential quarter will back up the slopes of Mt. Victory, giving fine views and breezes. The palace overlooks the lake across a future park, and the business district can expand towards the lake for commercial/wharves and also circle around the common center of town. Please remember that our town is very small at this point.

Wow, shaitan, you beat me to extolling the virtues of hillside residences!

disorganizer
Sep 13, 2002, 04:37 AM
We will need it in more detail... My proposal mainly reflected the different governmental areas we have, and also the main everyday businesses (eat, drink, sleep) to be between government and business-areas.

Also, the governmental housing should be near the governmental district. And i think having normal living quarters near the palace or other governmental buildings would not be that nice for the people and will be risky for our officials in times of crisis.

Also, if we do not plan far enought to the future, we will have to redesign it. For this, the same arguments apply than for redisigning province borders ;-)
People will loose their home-flavor if we redesign this even more than with the province-rebordering.

Also, you proposal needs to be adjusted to reflect the districs for group (=guild) houses.
