2 minor points re: City Lists.

1) The name HILDORIEN (Easterling capital) is duplicated in the Edain list. Substitute TALATH RHUNEN for the Edain?

2) The last name on the Angband list, DAGOR DAGORATH, refers to the prophesied final battle - not a city. Substitute FOROCHEL or LOTHLANN perhaps?

You correct. I will do that asap!

Sorry.. another little gripe...

1) You've got UDÛN in the city lists of both Shadow civs. Substitute SHELOB'S LAIR for Mordor? Or HAUDH-EN-NIRNAETHfor Angband?

2) Aragorn II is listed as a leader for both Arnor & Gondor. Wouldn't look very good if 2 civs with the same leader appear in the same game... Substitute Denethor II for Gondor?

WOW, this mod still lives?

T_F
May 01, 2009, 03:36 PM
Yup ^_^

@Pariah: We agreed on doubling Aragorn II to signify both that he was king of the Reunited Kingdom and that he was the leader of the Rangers. Feel free to bring that up in the leaders debate thread if you don't like it.

xmen510
May 01, 2009, 09:02 PM
Indeed. We also hope to be able to have a system in place that would eliminate a doubling of the leader. Thus if a player chooses Aragorn, then the Computer would not.

Also on the city list, please bring it up there if you wish. We have eliminated some doubling, however, based on tolkiens maps, some names do indeed appear in multiple places depending on the age. I tried to use some of the older lists and tried my best to leave out locations for names and only use cities by some had to change.

However, as T F mentioned, feel free to bring it up if you really wish to reopen the discussion in those threads.

Also, yes indeed, this Mod still lives. A little slow at the moment because many of the members are busy with exams, but still quite alive since the restart in early March!

How much longer till this Mod is ready? And, how much progress have you made (In terms of what percent of the mod is finished)?

xmen510
May 13, 2009, 06:55 PM
We have finally begun some of the coding and modifying of the base code we are using. It is still a while away unfortunately, but progress is being made. Since we had to restart from the groudn up, we had to rethink almost everything that had been done previously.

I'm glad to here that you are still working on this mod. I am a big fan of J. R. R. Tolkien's Middle Earth , from The Silmirilian to the Lord of the Rings, even though I only saw the movies. I hope you don't get discouraged and you keep up the great work. Good Luck!

I stand in awe of the accomplishments, and yet also am forced to question an apparent oversight. Why do Hobbits not appear as a playable race? One could argue, yes, that their influence over the affairs of Middle Earth were minimal, when considered as a nation. But they controlled a sizable amount of territory and were uninvolved primarily because they dwelt in a peaceable region isolated from the concerns of other people. In a more dangerous territory they may have demonstrated a more militaristic outlook, or at least a greater aptitude for combat. Certainly the Scourging of the Shire implies as much.
I propose, therefore, such an addition. Possibly using Meriadoc Brandybuck and Peregrin Took as leaders (since both assumed offices of importance after their adventures) and Bilbo Baggins as hero. Aligned Neutral (leaning Good), starting perhaps with agricultural techs.

xmen510
May 18, 2009, 07:55 PM
We are trying to include Hobbits but in a different aspect. Perhaps we can add them in as an optional Civ at a later time, but for the first release, they will be left out as a full Civ of their own.

Well, we have a couple of map types we are working on. We want to keep those a bit of a surprise however. We also want this working on random maps for people as well. Don't worry about the maps, they are coming along nicely!

Maybe complete a like, Rohan/Gondor/Isengard and Mordor and have a The Third Age test Modpack. :)

Anything else? You can bump the threads you need most stuff on: some of us like me are not posting becuase no-one else is posting.

Jun 02, 2009, 07:17 AM
A test modpack would be a good idea, test some of the more basic stuff before doing too much work on top of it.

some of us like me are not posting becuase no-one else is posting.
I also fall into this category.

Trajan7
Jun 02, 2009, 10:39 AM
I agree. A test modpack is a good idea. That way, you can get feedback on the mod BEFORE it is finished, so you can address problems and/or things that people don't like, or would want to have in the mod.

Just a thought instead of doubling Aragorn you could use Elessar for for gondor. When he was crowned king his full ruling name was Elessar Telcontar ("Elfstone Strider"). Which is also the name that was put in the historical records.

T_F
Aug 13, 2009, 09:48 PM
Maa, it's been so long since anything happened I had to go check the finalized leaders list to reply T_T

I vaguely remember an idea that Aragorn leading Arnor was Aragorn as a ranger, and that Aragorn leading Gondor was Elessar. I can't remember if that's exactly what we ended up going with.

@the1sean: Thanks! Things are a bit slow ATM since the people who actually know how to code have other obligations right now. Hopefully things get better soon.
