Sorry to say this guys, but my hard drive fried last night and I've lost all my AoD work. I had no backups or anything so I've lost all source code.

Looks like Age of Discovery II is finished. :(

Oh my God!

I think I have a backup of all AoD versions somewhere. No core DLL though, does it help?

Forget AoD 2 for now. :)

Maybe after some months you may want to do some more modding.

Oh, and if that's the end. I have to say AoD2 was probably the happiest gaming time I've had since 1995... Pleasure playing what you created. :)

BIG, BIG thanks to you for everything.

Our only hope is that it's April 1 in Melbourne.

If that's not it, sad thanks.

I wish it were so, but it's a sad truth. :(

I've plugged the HDD into this desktop PC and I'm trying to fix the bad sectors. It's gunna take hours (500 GB drive).

Dale, try with HDD Regenerator, if it isn't a joke, of course :)

I'm not convinced that isn't a april joke too. :) Isn't source code included in AOD2 release?

PrinzMyshkin

:: looks around :: still likes to think it's April fool's day ::

I've also found my back up. I have kept a history of all AoD2 releases including DLLs and CvGameCoreDLL files released since AoD v1.02. :)

Don't we have everything?

He posted this at 10:35am (April 1) Melbourne time, so it is still very possibly an April Fools Day joke.
With the exception of the SDK files, everything vital can be recovered by just downloading the mod from Apolyton.

this makes no sense Dale.

Your pc fries on april 1st and the first thing you do is posting here? When my pc was fried, it took me some while to recover things and get back online :p

I'm not sure about you, but I have several machines capable of accessing the internet. If this is legit, I would have done the same thing in his position.

EDIT: Further reason to think this is a joke, it that Dale posted in China Screen v1.0 as though it were business as usual just two minutes before making this topic.

But something tells me things will get better. ;)

In the meantime., would you recommend me buying BTS to play "Fall from Heaven II"?

Hohohoh :ar15:

After 15 years I'm still waiting for tactical fights with multiple units, two maps placed on top of each other and customizable traits in Civilization to show up. Maybe Civ5? :)

Hi all, well a little bit of good news. I was able to recover some of AoD2, and might be able to recreate the rest.

Here is what I've recovered: files (http://rtw.apolyton.net/aod2/AoD2_1.09.zip)

Whatever it is I am downloading it. :D

After 15 years I'm still waiting for tactical fights with multiple units

I have first seen something like that in a game named Centurion. It was very interesting.

Civ3 by MPS contained something like this.

Dude, I am gaming since 1988. First one was an Amstrad 6128, Schneider model with the green screen. :)

Proudly affected by one of the first computer viruses in the world. :D

http://www.f-secure.com/v-descs/pixel.shtml

Believe it or not, we coded the virus on our own in basic knowing something bad will happen. We found the script on a greek pioneering computing magazine called "Pixel". The idea of getting affected by a computer virus seemed like Indiana Jones exploring the myth of lost Atlantis...

I remember my computer crashed by memory flood asking me to buy the next "Pixel" magazine to cure it. Damn, I was so excited, I told my best mate, who was also willing to get his amstrad infected!

Too bad for us. Pixel was a monthly distributed magazine, so we had to wait about a month...

Definitely!!!!!!!!!!

This is #2 game of all time (after Col1). :)

FFH2 is good, but it's NOT that good.

Which is the best game ever played? Hmmm...

Something between Col. 1, Panzer General 1 and Monkey Island 1. :)

Dale

Best game on PC? Col1.
Best game on any computer that I've played? Pirates on the C64.

Frontier - Elite II :yup:

They tricked you into writing off sites of code only to mess up your computer? :D

Wonderboy!? The guy with the boomerang and the white panties jumping on the clouds? :D

Civ3 by MPS contained something like this.

Civ3 blew chunks. Call to Power 2 shat all over it. In some respects, CtP2 shat on Civ4 too.

Dude, I am gaming since 1988. First one was an Amstrad 6128, Schneider model with the green screen. :)

Me, I'm 1982 with a "Dick Smith Wizard" then the C64 in 1984. Mum got a 80286 in 1986 but it was only for business use (she was an accountant).

Civ3 by MPS == Call to Power 2, forgot the name :D

1982 was 3 years old... My parents didn't let me buy a C64 back in '87. :(

Finally bought an Amstrad in '88, an Amiga500 in '91, '93 moved to IBM compatible land with a 386SX, followed by a 486DX, then my first pentium...

It's a nappy BTW.

:D

That's it! Good old times...

Dale
Apr 01, 2009, 02:12 PM
Call to Power series was Activision, not MPS. (MPS == Microprose, Sid's old company). ;)

I got my own PC with a 486dx2 in 1993. I actually stole it from the boarding school I used to go to in 1992. The guy pissed me off in 1992, so early 93 I paid back the favour by taking his 486DX2. :D

Didn't matter, he dad was a filthy-rich, top 10 accountant in Singapore.

EDIT:
Come to think of it, that computer had Civ1 on it, and that's what got me hooked on Sid's strategy game (I still consider Civ1 superior in innovation to others of the series). From Civ1 I moved to Col.

PrinzMyshkin
Apr 01, 2009, 02:17 PM
LoL

Was it activision? I thought it was still MPS. My mistake. I remember C2P had innovative systems for public works, trade and lots of other goodies (space etc)

Played Civ1 too. Still have my Civ1 floppies. :)

This thing in on 65%. :(

I bought Col1 the day it was released here in Germany and they had this limited edition on CD-ROM bundled together with Civ1. I never knew which one to play first. :)

If you do download the above file (and it won't disappoint) then you'll also need to update the DLL file (in ..\Assets\ folder) with this: file (http://rtw.apolyton.net/aod2/AoD2_1.09_DLL.zip)
