View Full Version : Easter Eggs

I have been adding some things that can be considered easter eggs from the start, so there are several of them.
I can't remember all of them and I wonder how many you got.
So, I have a totaly unserious proposal... Starting from now, you have 24 hours to find and post here as many as you want. :D

As it is purely for fun, do not expect much reward and point awarding will probably be unfair and crazy...
I think I can promise adding an item or some special promotion the winner will want in Orbis (with a nice rainbow easter egg as an icon ;) ), or maybe something else, but that will depend on my mood and the actuall request.

So, good luck!

Clarification: there is a whole thread for FfH easter eggs so please do not use these. I prefer the ones from Orbis only, but for now do not know if I will enforce this. Time will tell....

Oh now this shall be fun... +_+. The Holy handgrenade of St.Antioch thing? Is that in the real FfH?

I'm not sure but it is really fun to use!

Oh, this is so bad :(
I'm not at home for two days! I won't be able to search! Well, I'm not good at finding easter eggs anyway. Good idea, though :)

I did not add anything new recently, so you can test your memory. I do not want people spend much time on it anyway... And there are no consequences for bad answers, are there?
But you are at disadvantage, I agree :(

You mean holy granade of cahir? Which is actually a nerfed nuke? ;)
Nope, that is mine, so you got a point.

Also, I simply do not want pople to copy anything from easter eggs from FfH thread. But if you find anything that is not there, it is fine even if not Orbis-only.

Wait a minute... Real ?FfH. So Orbis is not real?

Whoop! You know... I have a feeling that the next thing would be on units and monsters. Maybe such as the pic of Boris being a Frankenstein's monster?

Ahwaric
Apr 12, 2009, 08:17 AM
Yes, another point you got.
But there is something more in Boris...

EDIT: He does not explode after hearing a secret phrase in gnomish, killing entire civs. Now that I think about it, I can use some features like that.
Most of the 'eggs' would rather fall into cultural references category, but Boris is a fun one - and hidden, too. Well, sort of ;)

Boris referencing Boris Karloff, most famous for his role as Frankensteins Monster and The Mummy.
The picture is probably him too, but im not sure.

Also the Mechanos Heros face somehow loos like Lara Croft.

I did not add anything new recently, so you can test your memory.Well, Verocchio is certainly named after Andrea del Verrochio (or else it is a neat coincidence), a goldsmith. However, I admit that I didn't know that until I searched it in Google.

Some Norse mythology things: a Völva is a priestess and Thudr is one name of Odin (I think). I don't know if these are easter eggs, though.

A nice thing but I don't know if it's intended or if it belongs here: "Circle of Transmuters"; as alchemists used transmutation circles.

Vitnir seems to be a dwarf in Lord of the Rings Online (googled :mischief:).

That's all I can think about right now...

Ivelleth: Apparently in the bible, this word describes and arrogant fool who turned away from god

Laggs: a plural of Lag

Black CItadel: its in Warcraft III and availiable to the Scourge army

Yes, this is Boris Karloff (born William Henry Pratt). And it is his face, just with some makeup ;) My tribute to him...

Feris (mechanos hero) is not Lara. But I will not say who yet. But that was just a picture that I have useful, no hidden message here.

@Opera
Verrocchio is made up - from italian words for true and eye. But thanks for tip.
Thudr is an eastern egg (regarding being secret message). Odin was often wandering worlds in disguise and had zillion and one names. Now he is in FfH, too ;)

Vitnir is a shortened version of Mjodwitnir, a dwarf from edda. Together with thorin
Volva - I think I have explained that one, but yes, it was a nordic priestess.
Circle of transmuters comes from transmutation (lead to gold). Forgot about circles:goodjob:

@Seon
I did not know about Ivelleth. Got it from random names generator, but changed the result a bit. Same about black citadel.
Laggs is... well, not yet ;)

Seon

Well, then it is an unintended Easter egg as the description of him shows that he is arrogant and Ivelleth is a term for arrogance

doesn't Laggs mean long in some language?

Not in Finnish at least. But I bet Laggs == noob for lag.

Even better then :)

Laggs is the old-gothic word for long.
Laggs Nyr is a changed version of Long Drong from Warhammer world. Nyr is yet another dwarf from edda, albeit the name was changed a bit.
Long Drond is the leader of the Long Drong's Slayer Pirates - Mercenary Dwarf Slayers, unusually armed with pistols. I use his picture from Warhammer online.
To add more complication, Long Drong is partially based on Long John Silver from Treasure Island...

Feris uses picture of Meryl Silverburgh from Metal Gear Solid. Never played that game, it is just the picture I liked when I had to replace it because old one is now Maer's

Ok, to sum up the points. I am counting everything, just make it look better ;)

Seon: grenade, Boris picture, Ivelleth - 3 points, plus some minor for Black Citadel (and Laggs)
Opera: Thudr, Circle of Transmuters, 2 points, plus I will count Verrochio and Vitnir as half. Not sure about Volva, as I explained where the name comes from in the original thread, but anyway 0,25 ;) so 3 points total
shoggi: Boris - 1 point, but a big one :)

So, Seon gets the first place (for grenade and fast reaction)
Opera second (for memory and Google usage)
shoggi gets third - you got the one I really wanted you to find.

I told it will be unfair, didn't I?
Anyway, time for you three to name your prize. You can post suggestions here or , even better, send me a PM describing waht you want in game. A hero by your name? Special item? Promotion that can be gained once every million games? I am open to suggestions, but expect it get transformed in my twisted mind. I may even make it one from all three, but will try to give a separate egg for all three of you. ;)

Not sure if this is an Orbis thing or not, but the graphic for the Tower of Eyes looks suspiciously like the main tower of Baradur where Sauron "The Lidless Eye" lived prior to the One Rings destruction.

Obviously Great Mechanic Faber Ozzie is a anagram of Fozzie "Wakka Wakka Wakka!" Bear

The one pop-up of the great person that looks like Conan (with a dagger in his teeth) with the text "Wooman WOOman Wooman" is a favorite phrase of the Muppet Animal.

Another obvious one (which I am worried is going to be taken out) is the sound when uses the inquisitor promotion is Monty Python's "Nobody expects the Spanish Inquisition"

There used to be a FfH/FF event which was the Vorpal Bunny from Monty Python's movie "The Holy Grail"

Personally, I think we all do it. In my recent Civlopedia thread, I named the Technomage who invented a use for refined mana Aslet...which is just (Nikola) Tesla spelled backwards. If you don't know who he is...well there is always Wikipedia. Hmmm, now that I think of it, Aslet Alokin even works!

The lizard city Cozamalotl is just Oz and Camelot put together with a "L" on the end to make it it sound more "Aztec" like.

Tower of Eyes was made by Psychic Llamas and he based it partially on Orthanc, the tower of Isengard. I do not think it is used in FfH/FF

Other are from FfH (or FF). The bunny of Cave of Caerbanog is still in.

I like Aslet :) Aslet Alokin... Anakin Tesla? :mischief:

Request sent, awaiting opinion

a promotion gained every million game... is this even possible? :), it made me laugh as I am certain that nobody alive has played that many games (I know because if someone played that many games in his or her lifetime, then he or she would probably die from lack of sleep and sustenance

I have, at the moment, no idea what to do with my "easter egg hunt" prize.
Maybe when i sleep tonight i dream about something worthwhile. Thats where most of my good ideas come from :)

yep, i used Isengard as a major reference when making that, and just covered it with lots of pictures of stone eyes :p

:bump: Ahwaric, how goes our requests ;). Anyways people, do you think we should still make it a secret (as in the winner's ideas :mischief:) or should we just spill the beans so that we can get on with our lives and start doing that 5 page essay due tommorow?

Great, answer delayed by 18 days...

But the answer is no, I hope to add them soon (one of 0.23 patches I hope). So keep quiet for a little while ;)
