I was playing the Splintered Court Scenario (although I don't think that had anything to do with it), and I sent a hunter to a lair. I explored it, and to my surprise, what came out of it was a an Ashen Veil savant (this was before any religion had been founded. I decided to try to spread the religion to my capital, and I got a message saying I'd founded Ashen Veil (but no religion movie, but on the religion screen it says, under Ashen Veil not founded, but the holy city is my capital! What's going on?
P.S. Yes, I do know religions are usually founded by discovering the appropriate technology.

Because in Splintered Court only Esus and Leaves are allowed, all the other religions are disabled. I'd say the fact that you got a missionary of AV when AV is disabled is the bug.

Yeah. Sorry about that. I founded Esus in like the next turn, and I figured it out, I was just too lazy to post. But it's still weird having a missionary of a disabled religion!

I just had this same thing happen to me on The Momus scenario. I grabbed an Empyrian missionary out of a dungeon quite early and founded it without the technology.

This is not uncommon. The first city to gain that religon becomes the holy city. I see it all the time in normal FFH, as well as other mods which spread religions around without first founding them. The rarity in this case is she obtained a Savant when Ashen Veil was disabled.
