View Full Version : A Whacking We Will Go...

Besides whacking the guys in white, what are our plans for the Gaelic Swords? I know we need a strong military so the foolish AI will not attempt to extort our cash, but beyond that, what?

Are we going to whack someone before 1000 AD? (A planned whacking, I mean, not just responding to an AI's suicide wish.)

Well, we do have some luxuries to claim from the Fomorach. We should gather to the NorthWest, me thinks.

I think we should plan some sort of offensive soon.

Fomorach being the prime example.

Though I'm hesitant to "eliminate" them... as then that eliminates the Fomorach element

The Fomorach have settled some cities on "our" luxuries. We should take those cities and maybe a few more, but let them live to build more cities for us. We have our swords, let us use them on our enemy.

Foromach.
I'm anxious to see how they like our finely crafted sword blades...

I'm up for a little tussle to grab some luxes. Just be aware that it will trigger our Golden Age if we use our Gallic Swordsmen. We also need a road in that direction to actually benefit from the luxuries.

During the Turn Chat last night, I initiated the North by Northwest Road. It leaves Breyr and will eventually take us to the Men From Under The Sea. A trade route, so to speak. Where we trade them their lives for their luxuries. :ninja:

Here's my proposed goal for our expansion

This gains us 2 new Incense (allowing us to nearly corner the market), along with a 1 Dyes tile and 1 Spices tile. While leaving England relatively intact for our.... "amusement"

I'm honestly kinda hoping there's more room to the west for England Expansion though... honestly don't want to cripple them too badly (again for our amusement)

... And more room to annex later:mischief:

We have two Dyes we could pick up. One is isolated in the tundra and the other one is E-NE of Coventry. The tundra Dye would need a Colony; I don't think we want to waste a city in that location. But once Conventry is no more we could place a city to claim that Dye and another one to claim the two Incense that are west of Coventry. We might want to build on the western Incense, just to bug the Orange Apes.

If we take the Dyes near Coventry, then we wouldn't have a need (except for trade) for a Colony on the tundra Dyes.

To get to the Spices we would need to trample two cities of the Foromach. Not an issue.

I am concerened about the distance these cities would be from our core. Reinforcements, in case the Orange Apes were lacking in discretion, would be difficult to supply in a timely manner. Also, we would need to divert several workers for many turns to the task of building roads through hills and forests to connect our new resources. Foromach slaves will be slower than our fine citizen/workers, and might be hard to come by, even if the choice is "Work or Die".

I like the idea and the goals. Now we need a plan to make the goals our reality.

Ah... missed that Dye near Coventry, we may want want to claim the tundra one just to deny it from the other civs and for trade.

We also only need 1 more city to be able to build the Forbidden Palace and I think the West is a perfect place to place it.

Do we keep these Fomorach cities, turning the citizens away from our enemy, or do we burn them to the ground and plant new cities of our own. If we are going to raze them we need to have some Settlers ready to follow our troops in and plant cities of our own.

I would say show no mercy and raze. They are our enemies.

Except wonders. I'd rather keep any town with a wonder, and London just gets juicier. Surely we want to rub their noses in our citizens walking what were once their streets. Besides, not razing adds a fun RP element.

I say let's not raze... we are not barbarians like the Fomorach. We will not kill defenseless civilians.

We must show the world that we, Hibernians, have the moral high ground in this upcoming conflict

CommandoBob

I agree we are not barbarians like the Foromach, but they won't understand that. Not razing would be a sign of weakness. We must convince them and show them that we are not weak, and we appear weak only because it suits us. If they see their people toiling for us making roads and bridges for generations upon generations, they shall be forced to appraise us with the strongest in the world.

(Raze the cities we capture to claim the luxuries and debate the others later. Plus, we need the free labor.)

Ah, but you get more slaves in the long run by not razing. A town of 6 gets 2 slaves if razed but can net 4 if captured and slaves are built. We will definitely want London for its wonders anyway. I prefer to not raze.

I've found that captured cities do quite well under occupation. Normally, I will try to put the FP in the captured capital. This raises the juice level, and the trickle down effect does what I need it to do. I'm not opposed to razing poorly placed cities, and it looks like the Fomorach have done that with the foremost Southeastern city. But the standard is to keep them and grow them.
