José Ferdanas stared of in the distance from the ship. Something seemed different from yesterday. Was that a tree on the horizon? It seemed to be moving closer, and as it moved in the distinct brown and dark green became familiar to him. This was a tree, the same kind as those endless trees he had seen in Scotland some few years ago.

"Simon, Simon! Over here! There is land!" Ferdanas cried, and almost as soon as the words left his mouth, Bolivar was climbing up to the crow's nest.
As soon as Bolivar reached the crow's nest, he grabbed the scope from Ferdanas. Peering over to the west, he caught a glimpse of the forest.
"We will land there tomorrow." Bolivar noted to Ferdanas. "In the meantime, I must notify everybody else on the ship."

As the next day arrived, the coast became even more obvious. An excited buzz was over the ship, everybody knew they'd be getting off this cramped ship and back on to land. As the ship drew nearer and nearer, Bolivar ordered the ship put in anchor and the cutlass loaded.
Two hours later, as Bolivar and his small group of men left the ship onto the island, Bolivar told Ferdanas to scout the forest, and see how big this island was.

The morning was cool, and could have been a very happy day if it hadn't of been for Ferdanas' news.
"There is rich grasslands where cotton grows beyond the forest." Excited muttering broke out among the crowd.
"We are going to be rich!" One enthusiastic colonist started chanting.
"Quite! Let José finish his report!" Ferdanas' roommate, Carlos Cortes yelled.
"However, after that, the land gives way to the sea. Not enough place to farm, and unless anybody here knows how to fish very well, we'd all starve buy settling here." José continued.
A silence fell among the crowd. Many turned to Bolivar to see what he'd say.
"Very well. We must leave this island, and continue west." Before Simon could finish his sentence, murmurs broke out among the crowd.
