Valhalla Build Queues (http://forums.civfanatics.com/showthread.php?s=&threadid=32340)
donsig Sep 12, 2002, 03:57 PM I think Valhalla (our city to be built tonight) should build a couple spearmen and tehn a settler. I'm posting this here because the city is not yet officially part of Bohemia and it is therefore up to the Domestic Dept. to post its build queues.
Cyc Sep 15, 2002, 05:41 AM Congrats FionnMcCumhall. Welcome to the Domestic Department Leader's Club. If you have any questions or I can be of any assistance, please PM me.
I REALLY like the new logo for the Department. Very well done, as usual.
I think the next 4 cities should be part of Bohemia. I believe our "core" cities need to constitute our Capital Province. Once the viewable map is enlarged, we can discuss Provinces and their borders, but Bohemia should stay as it will be, hopefully. The first 5 cities.
Chieftess Sep 15, 2002, 06:07 PM Please cast your vote in the Council Vote (http://forums.civfanatics.com/showthread.php?s=&threadid=32094) for Culture Leader.
Great Iguanaman Sep 17, 2002, 10:25 PM I noticed you do not have a chat rep. Im not sure if you think you would need one, but itd be good to have one just incase both of you are unable to make it. If i am chosen i will uphold all that the Dom Dept. represents. Well please think about this. I am available and would love to fill the void.
The Great Iguanaman
FionnMcCumhall Sep 18, 2002, 01:51 AM Today is Wednesday. Turn chat is schedule today and i am asking for citizen imput on what valhalla should produce next after it bulds our next settler. I propose a spear, then a worker to help our other worker
FionnMcCumhall Sep 18, 2002, 01:51 AM I propose a spearman, then a worker to help our other worker from the city of bavaria.
donsig Sep 18, 2002, 07:08 PM Since our President banned me from the #demogame chat room in the midst of our debate I will continue my remarks here.
You get one point for being the first leader to post turn chat instructions but then you lose 100 points for posted only RESERVED. Those are not instructions. Where's the build queue for Valhalla? You made one post in a thread that has had only 51 views, didn't get any response, and then you threw in the towel and got a great big case of apathetic! It is your job as one of the most powerful leaders in our government to get off your duff and solicit citizen input. Why didn't you make a thread in the citizens' forum about the Valhalla build queues?
And you are right, your city #3 placement poll did not please me. What I was going to say before our President unilaterally and without warnig kicked me from the chat room was that you should be posting proposed polls in the appropriate discussion thread. This allows for citizens to give input about the poll question, options and format. If you are not going to do this then you should take great care to include popular options. Perhaps you don't realize it but by excluding options you are getting a skewed vision of the will of the people.
FionnMcCumhall Sep 18, 2002, 07:14 PM i have posted a new poll since i think its only fair we decide on a new location due to the discovery of iron working. its located here (http://forums.civfanatics.com/showthread.php?s=&threadid=32338)

Chieftess Sep 18, 2002, 07:16 PM Donsig. The chat was over, It was my duty as a chat op to do so. I told you to apologize to Fionn for your remarks, and I want Fionn to do the same. Please stop this flame war. If you want to continue it in pm, then do so. If you want the citizens to hear about it, then post it there (the citizens forum). Yes, this is a warning. (and I'm trying to be impartial. ;))

Since the turn chat was over what reason was there to stop a discussion between a citizen and two of our countries leaders? You kicked me from the #demogame and #civfanatics chat rooms without even a warning! I was in the midst of trying to tell our leaders about posting proposed polls in the appropriate discussion threads before actually starting the polls. You abruptly stopped that discussion and now we have two new polls that once again were posted in haste!
I will not apologize to Fionn for I do not think I did anything wrong. Nor do I expect an apology from him. We were having a spirited discussion but it was no flame war.
I expect this ban you have placed on me to be lifted promptly.
Chieftess Sep 18, 2002, 07:32 PM I have the chat log, and I warned you stop chat/threadjacking!

I see no reason why we should be forced to say ever move we make. I post an informational poll and you job on my case for just trying to gather information!
If you wish to continue to insult the science and domestic departments than you do so, but I am ending my part in this discussion now.
FionnMcCumhall Sep 18, 2002, 07:35 PM is there a reason why my thread is getting the spam posts if its spam im still trying to understanding that rule

Would you please post the chat log so we can all see it? I downloaded the log from the turn thread and it only goes up to time stamp 20:15 which was long before you kicked me out.

No, not really spam. Just off topic for this thread. Hint...Hint...;)
WarriorZeus Sep 20, 2002, 05:06 AM As i noted in your Valhalla build thread, building a worker follwed by a settler might not mean the city has enough time to reach level 3 (ie we will we wasting shields while the city grows to 3) maybe we could build a military unit to aid in the forthcomming offensive (if it is so decided to embark apon war)
WarriorZeus Sep 20, 2002, 05:09 AM oh and btw i know its off topic (which seems to be going around alot in here) but maybe donsig should open a disgruntled citizens club, or maybe we need a thread (not to be insulting just pointing out) "respond to what donsig has said today"...............
Chieftess Sep 20, 2002, 10:49 AM Please cast your vote in this council vote (http://forums.civfanatics.com/showthread.php?s=&threadid=32463) for the Governor of Bohemia.
Great Iguanaman Sep 21, 2002, 01:26 AM I think that two very simple rules should be followed when deciding Provincial boarders:
1. When the city is built, if the cultural influence doesnt merge with the closest city at the time it is built, then its a new province.
However building compact will pretty much make this rule null. In which case
2. If the city is more then 5 diagonal tiles away from the nearest city then it should be a new province.
I thought somone should honor your request to hear opinions, so here i am. I have more opinions, but i just wanted to change the topic from, whatever was going on, to provincial boarders.
The Great Iguanaman
neutral leader Sep 21, 2002, 02:10 PM this will split up the provinces too much, its a good start iguanaman, but you need to make it a little harder to meet the new province requirements.
Great Iguanaman Sep 21, 2002, 03:45 PM why should things be more complicated. Its a very simple thing. If it meets either rule, then its a new province. If you can give me an example of why this is not perfect, i will welcome it and consider it.
The Great Iguanaman
neutral leader Sep 21, 2002, 07:36 PM i think this will split up provinces too frequently, iguanaman.
Great Iguanaman Sep 22, 2002, 07:14 PM well it wont. This will merely produce an effective way to start provinces.
The Great Iguanaman
FionnMcCumhall Sep 22, 2002, 11:23 PM As much as i enjoy the stimulating arguement in this thread therte is a more appropiate thread to discuss this. You can access it here under the topic "How do we define our provinces?" or follow the link:http://forums.civfanatics.com/showthread.php?s=&threadid=31202.
Eklektikos Sep 23, 2002, 03:53 AM Just to inform you that Donsig, Fanatika's premier publisher, has paid for the Domestic Department to receive 1 poll consultation from YN&A to be made use of at the Dept.'s discretion. Please PM me (http://forums.civfanatics.com/private.php?s=&action=newmessage&userid=16187), or post your requirements in the YN&A thread (http://forums.civfanatics.com/showthread.php?s=&threadid=31775), should you choose to make use of this gift.
Cyc Sep 23, 2002, 04:38 AM Lucky you! I only got a free newspaper from Donsig.
I have submitted a new Provincial Border Plan (http://forums.civfanatics.com/showthread.php?threadid=31202&pagenumber=5#newpost) in the appropriate thread. Just thought you might want to see it.
I have also posted build queue suggestions in 2 or 3 discussion threads. They shouldn't be hard to find.
I would strongly suggest sliding the Lux rate up to 10% immediately.

donsig Sep 25, 2002, 07:00 AM I urge the domestic department to reconsider the build queues for Valhalla. We have only one worker in all of Fanatika. It seems this worker will be busy for some time building roads to much needed special resources such as iron and spice. We need another worker that can improve the tiles around Valhalla soon. We have an unimproved cow tile that we will always be using. A road on that tile gives us one gold per turn. A mine would give us another shield per turn. Irrigating it would give more food per turn. Once the settler is ready Valhalla will be size one but will grow in 5 turns - the exact amount of time it will take to recruit a worker. I think it is in Fanatika's best interest to produce this worker and then build the granary.
FionnMcCumhall Sep 25, 2002, 12:31 PM i considered and listened to the citizens on what they wanted with overwhelming support for a granary and now you want me to change that? You donsig are a see saw you go back and forth
Cyc Sep 26, 2002, 12:47 PM Thank you for your suggestion Donsig.
The Domestic Department is still open. If you have any concerns or wishes for the next turn chat, please post them here. Thank you.
Cyc Sep 27, 2002, 07:37 PM As of now, considering citizen input and prior planning, I am proposing the following build queue for the Turn Chat Instructions thread for Saturday, 9/28/02. If you disagree or have other comments please post them here, before 3pm EST tomorrow.
Bavaria - Archer (c), Archer, Archer, Warrior, Warrior.
Valhalla - Worker, Granary, Settler.
Morgana - Barracks, Spearman, Swordsman
Place the settler on the Iron East of Bavaria, and name the city Morgana. Try and use Bavaria's game tile for laborer to work.
In Valhalla, switch the laborer to the cattle tile. This will increase our food production.
In Bavaria, switch the laborer from the lake to the forest tile. This will slow our food production and increase our shield production.
Move the Luxury slider to 20%.
Stop worker from Building road to Morgana site and move him to the forest South of the game to build road to Spice.
neutral leader Sep 28, 2002, 11:16 AM valhalla and morgana are beautiful as is, but bavaria has too much military emphasis.
Great Iguanaman Sep 28, 2002, 11:41 AM I think we should have a full army ready. i think the current build cues are beautiful as is.
The Great Iguanaman
Eklektikos Sep 28, 2002, 11:59 AM Looks good to me, Cyc. I'll recall the nearer of our two warriors in the east to ensure seamless defence of the capital.
NL, an early military bias is usually very important to long term survival at emperor level. If the AI decides we are weak, they will not hesitate to pounce.
Octavian X Sep 29, 2002, 02:32 AM I would like to congratuate Zarn, our once and future domestic leader, on his recent race unopossed race for this position.
Zarn Sep 29, 2002, 06:16 AM Thak you Octavian, but I already voted for President. It is kind of disapointing to have no one to run against.
Octavian X Sep 29, 2002, 11:47 AM I'm not trying to get your vote.
Oh, of course I am. But still, congrats!
Danke Sep 29, 2002, 11:47 AM Congrats Zarn! I know what you mean about running unopposed. Doesn't it feel like years since we ran for census officer at the end of game 1?
Zarn Sep 29, 2002, 04:45 PM Do I choose a deputy this time? the prez? the people?
Octavian X Sep 29, 2002, 06:23 PM First, you wait for the new term to begin :D
You get to appoint a deputy, who has to be approved by a citizen confirmation poll.

So it's a little of 'A' and a little of 'C'.

hehe.. a little excited, aren't you? :) The 2nd term hasn't started yet... But, you can post/appoint when the elections are over.
I'd love to be deputy again, but I have a forum to mod. :D
Cyc Sep 30, 2002, 01:45 PM I would like to thank Fionn McCumhall once again for the oppotunity to serve briefly as the Domestic Leader. I would also thank those who allowed this brief appointment to take place.
Though my time here was short, I tried to get an idea of what the people of Fanatika feel are our priorities in regards to the Domestic Department affairs. Priorities dealing with issues of not only where we are now, but what paths we might take in the future. I did this by initiating 4 discussion threads and following these up with two polls.
In both polls we had a fairly high turn-out of voters and responses, so I can say with confidence that the results speak for the nation. In the "Which direction should we expand" poll - SE was the winner with 12 votes/57.14%, South took second place with 7/33.33.
In the "Most important resource" poll - Horses won decidedly with 13/56.52%. Furs & Iron had 5/21.74% and Spice had 4/17.39%.
In the Sci/Lux discussion there were requests to raise both the Science and the Luxury rate, but there were more suggestions to keep them low. For the turn chat Lux was raised to 20% to accomodate the Military strategy.
Basic strategy for production is a push for Military units utilizing out newly found Iron deposits, and we still see Valhalla as a Settler factory. We are still working towards a granary in Valhalla, but did away with the temple in Bavaria.
That about wraps it up. I wish Zarn the best of luck.
