Here is my first attempt at a tank/wheeled vehicle.
It is the Canadian Coyote light armored vehicle (or supposed
to be). While for the most part it would be a flavor unit
in the game, it could have its uses.

For example, you could make cheaper shield wise than a tank. give it a higher higher move rate, but much lower attack and defense rate. The back of the coyote opens like
a APC, so you could also allow it to carry a foot unit or two.

This unit is in its early stages, so its still a bit rough around
the edges, so all input at this stage of the game is
definatly do-able for the model.

After I finish this, I'm going to revise my Halifax Class
Frigate.

Here is a early picture of the model with pictures of the
real thing on the right.

The default look in game. The red you see on it are the
area's for civ specific colors.

Nice! I like it! The model looks fine. I've been wanting a unit like this for some time!:goodjob:

To me the SW looks a bit wierd and I'm not to sure about the Civ Specific Colour on the 'bonnet' but other than that..... It looks Perfect.:)

Actually. Now that I look at it. The SW looks fine. It's just the bonnet 'issue'.

Thanks :D I just exported some pictures of the angles real
quick to make the animation to post on the board, I haven't
spent much time working out what angles I want them at yet.
So I will for sure, take another look at SW angles.
The bonnet plate can be changed, I just figured it
was a good spot to plunk a civ color. I guess I could put
bars on the turret or even make the tire attached to the
front a civ color, your right though, it does sorta catch
the eye a bit to much there :)

Here is another newer model of it, for fun I threw some
camo on it (note the coyote doesn't have any camo, just
pure green). If you folks like the look of it, i'll make
2 versions of the coyote, one with the accurate pure green
and the other in camo.

I think the Civ colours on the turret are good. I like the camo. Personally you would of thought it would camo on in the first place. Amazing!

I love the camo version. The civ colorsa on the bonnet might work better if it wasn't such a rigid square. It just looks out of place. :) Maybe a line or chevron or something else. ?

Please do the camo version! And great work on the model!!!

It is a little big, but because of the size of the unit itself if you make it much smaller it blends to much into the base of the unit and its really hard to see (unless you make it a much brighter
color or much darker).

Here is a updated version, with different civ color markings
on the front, a bit less intrusive.

This is a cutie !
Isn't the front tire too high ? I think so.

And you definitly have problems with your color palette on the preview ! :D
Don't worry, it happens to everyone !

Go on !

OH YEAH! You guys continue to amaze me :crazyeye: I get so dizzy with all these awesome units. I never believed that with 3D, the artistic community would do this.

Finally, an armored amphibious assault vehicle or MAV, take your pick [dance]

I think it looks a little dark, perhaps?

This is going to a great unit! Good work! I really love the camo version. :D

Would anyone be interested in a snow camo
version as well? I threw on some snow camo
to the model and it looked pretty darn spiffy.
Figured i'd ask if anyone would like the inclusion
of a snow camo version of the Coyote. The regular
green version is for the most part finished, work
has started on the camo version animations. Going
to release them at the same time. Here is a preview
of the snow camo model

Oh wow, I love the camo version and the new civ colors look much better, but that snow camo version is incredible... It seems you're going to a lot of trouble though Doragon, but having different styles of the same unit will probably be great for mod makers and the likes. The definition of the unit seems a lot clearer too in this snoiw camo version. A plus to show off your work!

Yeah do the snow camo too. I like the previous camo version the best but we could give the snow camo version to another civ. Nice unit by the way.

I like it, very good work! Two tips, the spare tyre is a little too high, and the gun is perhaps a little too big, it could also do with a little more ambient light- just to iluminate the shadows a little; but all those are just details, over all its very good. I prefer the snow camo; it looks a little like "Urban" camo too.

Thanks everyone for your input for this unit.

I have made the gun smaller, the spare tire lower, the regular
version a bit lighter and with a lighter ambiance

The only thing that I really am not happy with is the
civ specific color placement, there really isn't a whole
lot of places to put it, I guess thats the disadvantage
of allowing civ specific colors.

I expect all 3 versions to be completed by the end of the
coming weekend.

The colors in this preview are a little messed because
I put all 3 units in one animation and it sorta messes
the palette a bit, the colors are a lot clearer for the real thing.

Its easier to change the colors of the unit after it is completed. I would suggest making a grey toned camo unit, then replacing the colors in the palette to change the color of the camoflage..... it is much easier than rendering them all.

Is it just me, or is the camo on the Unit following it around... I mean, the green on the middleone is the same for the eye on all views.

Nope its not you, it does sorta follow it around.

The texture was rendering in the views like that,
I didn't think to much of it because you would really only notice it
when it was spinning in such a animation...if it was moving in
game and went from say west to north, I don't think you would
notice it a whole lot, if at all.

Or maybe its a feeble hypnotizing attempt...Your
getting sleepy....sleeepy .....sleeeeeepy .....when
I snap my fingers, you will love the unit, bark like a dog,
call your mother, preorder everyone who posted in this
thread a copy of play the world and run around the block
shouting "I am a purple people eater" 5 times.....

*SNAP*

That is most peculiar, I noticed it too..... what 3d program are you using?

3ds max

It did that in the very first animated preview of the
camo unit earlier as well, it just wasn't as noticable
because the animation was spinning slower.

You need to apply a UVW Map to the unit, and do an UVW UnWrap on that. I could write a tutorial on how... but there are tutorials on that with the program. Just open the Help menu, and search for texturing.

The snow camo definitely is my pick. If its a big bother I wouldn't worry too much about that camo problem, if my units start spinning like that in the game I will be asking my doc to reduce my prescription!

kemal! I told you to lay off the beer thing!!!!! You never listen do you! :D

Doragon: maybe if you are VERY bored you could do two versions of it.

They look great!!! :goodjob:

Here is how the death animation is shaping up

Doragon
Sep 18, 2002, 09:19 PM
Or if you like the bigger boom, there is this one..

Which one do you guys thinks looks better? Or am I
totally on the wrong track?

Polaris
Sep 19, 2002, 12:41 AM
This looks great Doragon. I think it would be a great upgrade for Kinboat's Lancia armored car. As for the death .flc, I'd vote for the "big boom" ending. I think it really captures the fuel and ammo load "cooking off" nicely. Too many of the vehicle unit death animations just look like blocks falling apart rather than catastrophic destruction, but not this one!

Sep 19, 2002, 03:34 AM
Just to be anoying i would have to go with the smaller boom. The big one looks good but once the smoke clears i think that th efront of it should show some damage whic it doesnt. I think you should just stick with the top being blown off. Both of them still look good though.

Actualy on second thoughts i've just looked at it again, and i think that the big boom looks better:D

Hey,
thats a unusual form of BOOM and it look great. I vote for both, it doesnt matter wich you use.
