Hello,
This is my first post I play civ 3 a few years back and recently got into playing civ 4 bts. As I have seen discussed in this forum often one of my weaknesses when I first started playing was over building. As I’ve improved I have learned to rein it in a lot only building things like happiness buildings and health building when they are need etc. But I have much less of a feel for some of the other buildings.
My question is, is there some kind of decision rule on when it is worth it to build commerce multipliers or research multipliers? Or at least some guiding principles? As it stands I generally try to build libraries and uni's and observatories in all my decent sized cities when I find time to sneak them in but I don't know when or where its worth having them and where they should be a priority? The same thing with the commerce buildings (although most of the time I end up building a lot of grocers regardless b/c of the health bonus) generally if I see a city is making a lot of base commerce (relative to my other cities) then I build a bank + market.
I feel like this is a part of my game that needs to be improved so any input would be appreciated. I realize that the answer is most likely vary dependent on what type of economy up are running what leader you are and what your victory goal is, but I like to play lots of different leaders and try out lots of different ways of play this variety is what makes the game fun for me so sorry but the question is general.
