Hey I'm a long time reader first time poster. I'm not sure whether this is common knowledge or not, but I figured I'd post it anyway.

I started a game as Sidar today and there was a Goblin fort nearby with a couple stacks of archers. With 25% hill defence and fortification bonuses I couldn't kill them, so I decided to send some archers over to soften them up with ranged attacks.

Well, it didn't take long to discover that every time I fired an arrow, my unit got 2 exp. And since theres a cap on ranged damage, I could keep shooting them repeatedly with multiple archers and they would never die. They never came out to attack my stack of archers and never moved. So soon I was getting EXP like no tomorrow and generating a shade every turn by just farming them.

:)

Awesome. I love it. Shades for the win. Looks like I'll be winning a game soon.

Yeah I've got 10 great engineers, 9 great sages and 4 great bards just in my capital alone and counting with 221 hammers on turn 200 normal. Its pretty imba, I don't think I even need to build improvements anymore. I'm working on Silvan's Perfect Lyre which will put my culture through the roof.

This is a problem in FF as well. Generally, I'd say the solution is to make enemies either attack you or flee when you bombard them. They shouldn't stand there taking it for eternity.

I think it's better to remove xp from range attack. Maelstrom mage can reduce hp to a lot more unit, but they don't get any xp. And there are already a lot of xp from building and civic.

Yep... I used it to train up 4 marksman as well. Needs a fix somehow.

Is this imbalanced? Yes. However, I don't think that we should nerf xp from ranged attacks completely. Maybe just make it so that you don't gain xp when you do less than 5% damage or something, but at least make it no xp when you don't do any damage at all. Because of course, the flip side to gaining xp from ranged combat is that with you actually build an army around it, instead of relegating ranged combat to when you're playing with the elves.

I think the xp you get should be based at least in part on how much damage the ranged attack inflicts.

I haven't played FF or Orbis recently, so I didn't even realize that you got any xp from ranged attacks.

It's a known and fixed bug, just don't think we have had a release since the fix. The XP calculation was reversed to use the total damage on the target instead of the damage you just inflicted on them. And we've since adjusted things considerably to make this less effective still.

Why is it that every time Sidar get shades somebody wants to bring out the nerf hammer?

So how does the xp calculation on ranged combat work now?

Now it is calculated based on the damage that your unit JUST did to the opponent (the value shown in the message after the attack)
