it keeps saying that I have a ten turn peace treaty that I can't cancel. I can't move troop into the target's territory. What is going on?

Thanks

you fall into one of those situations :
- you sued for peace, and thus have a peace treaty you can't break right now
- there was a war against this guy and there was a decision for peace by the AP (= peace treaty)
- you demanded something from this guy, he gave in to to your demand (=peace treaty)

thanks cabert,

I demanded and he gave in. This is my firs civ 4 game. I didn't know it worked like that. The peace treaty stays at ten turns even though I hit next turn.

OK, I can cancel the peace treaty now.

So I'll get back to my game. I sure do appreciate the help I get here. I've played civilization since the first one.

Indeed, I hope ciV is even better when it comes out.

If you hit F4 to go into the Diplomacy screen and select the "Active" tab, you can hover your mouse over the line where it says you have a peace treaty with the guy and it will tell you how many turns are left until you can cancel it.
