View Full Version : Trade Military Units?

Is there any way to mark certain military units so they can be traded in negotiations like the slave workers can be when fortified in the capital city?

My goal with this is to allow the trading of at least guerilla units or some other low-level modern units to allow for direct aid to allied civs.

Beyond this, if it is possible to make that idea work for trading ICBMs? Would it require the Manhattan project be built as a great wonder or could I make it a small wonder?

I could be wrong, but I believe that its hardcoded into the game engine so that whatever unit is in the worker slot, i.e. the second unit (icon #1) in the unit list is able to be traded between civilizations.

The unit which can be traded is always the "Captured Unit" from the General Settings tab.

Maybe combine the guerilla and worker into one unit.

Give the guerilla worker functions and make it the 'Captured Unit'.

I like to give my workers a defense point, it's much better game. A guerilla/worker with offense and defense could be interesting.

Gives new meaning to disgruntled worker:).

This is one of the features of Civ II that I miss in Civ III. In Civ II you could give civs military units as part of negotiations. It was kind of fun to get a neighbor to declare war on your enemy and then give them a few units to inflict some pain on them with. Unfortunately IIRC you could only give them a few units before they would mysteriously start declining your offers though.

I wish in Civ III you could give neighbors military units to fight enemies with, effectively having a proxy war with another civ without declaring it yourself.

In Civ4 you can pay someone to declare war on a neighbour, you don't even have to be at war with them yourself.

They will take cash or a technology for the pleasure.

OK, Pounder that was getting kind of off topic... But, I believe the answer to your question is in the tutorial section of this website, if I remember correctly...

yeah i developed this when i was working on RFRE as well as Heart of Destiny and tried persuading swoggy to use it, but it didnt last. anyway you can do it, but you just have change the capture unit (as Virote said) from worker to whatever unit you want. the downside to this is that you cant trade workers anymore, but i for one didnt care. I had two variants: for RFRE my idea was to make it so Numidian Cavalry could be traded from the Numidia civ to Rome. i just switched it up as has been suggested and it worked, but the idea wasnt adopted. my better interpretation was to create a "mercenary" unit with era-specific graphics with only 2 hp (standard had 4 i think) but with high stats, like 6/6/1. so these units werent gamebreakers, but were a nice addition to any force. this was the iteration that we used for HoD for a while and it was pretty fun, though i think it was later scrapped too. But i do like the idea of trading nukes this way. it should work just fine. let us know how it turns out, as it is an interesting concept.

What's so "guerrilla" about it if you had to trade? The idea of guerrilla warfare is that you fight with what you have and fight at every moment you have an advantage over your enemy as you don't have a proper army to confront your enemy "in the open." All of that translates to you not having ally or adequate resources to build a standing army. If you have allies then get them to send their troops. :p Also trading unit also means an allied unit spawns magically at your capital. It's not realistic.

Rather pointless really, would you trade US Specops for Russian Specops? It is not practical.
