View Full Version : Editing Flic files Farsight Jun 17, 2009, 02:25 PM Is there any good, FREE software I can use to edit Flics? Lord Malbeth Jun 17, 2009, 04:39 PM FLICster (http://forums.civfanatics.com/showthread.php?t=10208) or Civ3FlcEdit (http://forums.civfanatics.com/showthread.php?t=91253&highlight=Civ3FlcEdit) are both good (And free!) If you want to actually manipulate the .pcx's, I'd recommend GIMP (http://www.gimp.org/downloads/), it's free. There should be a tutorial on-line somewhere... Cheers! :) General 666 Jun 17, 2009, 05:35 PM I would additionaly name "AnimationShop" (limited usage) and when thinking of manipulate the storyboard pcx you could also try "IrfanView". AnimationShop http://ftp.jasc.com/pub/en/ani311en.exe IrfanView http://www.irfanview.net/ Steph Jun 18, 2009, 01:58 AM And don't forget SBB if you want to make munits, resize units, or create new unit animations. Vuldacon Jun 18, 2009, 02:12 AM Yes, SBB remains a necessity that has allowed more unit creations than would have otherwise been possible. A Must to Have... Great "Tool" :) Steph Jun 18, 2009, 02:24 AM I wonder what is the % of units made using SBB, using Flicster, using Civ3FLC edit, etc. Imagine if I got 0.01 € for every unit downloaded here and made with SBB? Let say 500 units made by Sandris with SBB. Let say 5 animation each. That's 2500 animations. If 100 persons have donwloaded it... That's  Why did I make it free ? Vuldacon Jun 18, 2009, 02:39 AM Why did I make it free Generousity? Seriously, it is just as generous as all of the Work that everyone who has uploaded their work for others to have for Free here. It no doubt has also helped you to gain more Free Units for your Games as well. Guess it all comes around in payment of some sort :) Steph Jun 18, 2009, 03:12 AM Generousity? In fact it's selfishness and greediness. I wanted more units for my mod, so I made a tool to lure artists into making free animations, that I could use without paying for them. Am I not evil ? Lord Malbeth Jun 18, 2009, 04:47 PM And don't forget SBB if you want to make munits, resize units, or create new unit animations. Whoops! Completely forgot that one! 1/3 of the unit making process is done with that... but I haven't been regularly making 'new' units in a while. Farsight Jun 20, 2009, 09:44 AM For the record, I want to make Leaderheads, and it seems that all the programs I seem to find cost money. Steph Jun 20, 2009, 12:12 PM Well, depends what you want to do. You can make a leaderhead with a free software by assembling the different images. For a static leaderhead it's easy. Lord Malbeth Jun 20, 2009, 02:28 PM I've also heard of people drawing and animating leaderheads the old fashion way... I don't think they've uploaded them to this forum, but I know it has happened. Vuldacon Jun 20, 2009, 04:55 PM There is Nothing "Sacred or Magic" about using any particular Program or procedure. Learn what is necessary and make what you want YOUR way. There are Free Programs that will allow you to do most things concerning units and Graphics work. I will add that this can be more time consuming because most ( if not all) free programs do not allow you to do as much as what you buy... Still, it can all be done if you have an understanding of all that is involved and a desire to do it. Remember Walt Disney made animations manually.
