Androrc the Orc Jun 22, 2009, 07:15 AM Nice :)
Will you include the whole of India itself?
CivLucas Jun 23, 2009, 03:54 AM Yes the whole of India will be there, if I have a map
Androrc the Orc Jun 23, 2009, 07:15 AM Cool. Here is a list of suggestions for colonies:
American East Indies (only had possessions in the area in the 19th century)
Austrian East Indies (had the Nicobar Islands, plus some possessions in the eastern coast of India; in the 19th century, an Austrian consul managed to get rights to North Borneo, but the Austrian government turned down the offer)
British East Indies
Danish East Indies (some possessions in India)
French East Indies (possessions in India, and Indochina in the 19th century)
Portuguese East Indies (had possessions spread out throughout the entire map)
Spanish East Indies (Philippines)
Bull3pr00f Jun 23, 2009, 07:30 AM You insulted my Country! EVERYONE knows the Netherlands were in charge of what is currently Indonesia!!! ;)
EDIT: whoops, forgot the smiley
i_diavolorosso Jun 23, 2009, 09:03 AM I don't think that majapahit fit the timeline(if my history memory right, their empire vanished in the beginning of 16 century, while dutch colonization happened in late 16 century). And sadly, after the decline of majapahit, no empire took it position as a major power in indonesia(oh well, the dutch did it:p).Here is the list of few empire that worth enough for me, but i don't think that all of them should be added(although as an indonesia, i'm glad to see all of them:lol:).

I know, but it's already in his mod :p
CivLucas Jun 25, 2009, 01:50 PM I'm working on the portuguese. British, French and Spanish are already included. Danish and Austrian are a good idea Androrc :) And I'll steal Zheng Chenggong form Age of Discovery :P And i'm giving England, France, Netherlands & Spain 3 leaders.
I'm Dutch too by the way ;)
CivLucas Jun 25, 2009, 03:02 PM Another question: What's a better name 'The East Indies' or 'East India Companies'
Dale Jun 25, 2009, 03:26 PM East Indies and East India Company is a name limited to a small number of European countries. Maybe something like The Spice Route which was an important distinction for all European countries.
Androrc the Orc Jun 25, 2009, 08:31 PM East Indies and East India Company is a name limited to a small number of European countries. Maybe something like The Spice Route which was an important distinction for all European countries.
Aye, you're right. I put the name "X East Indies" for them just to give them a pattern in naming, like "New Spain", "New France" and etc. is for the New World.
CivLucas Jun 27, 2009, 11:32 AM The Austrians did fail on the nicobar islands. You should read this: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Austrian_colonisation_of_Nicobar_Islands .
Huayna Capac357 Jul 03, 2009, 09:06 AM We had an Asian Colonization Mod going for a while, but no one's worked on it recently :(
TC01 Jul 05, 2009, 09:18 AM Perhaps a download link to your mod in the first post would be helpful? For people who don't visit the download database often and instead browse the forums (like me...)?
CivLucas Jul 09, 2009, 03:45 PM Could you post a link Huayna?
I-am-a-panda Jul 11, 2009, 09:57 AM Idea - Each Civ should get a different bonus from the 'locals'. For example, The British can recruit the vicious Gurkha Riflemen once they are given 'x' guns and 'x' coats. Just an idea.
TC01 Jul 11, 2009, 03:09 PM I like the idea of the Hemispherical Islands mapscript. But is it possible to make it so that each civ actually starts in the west, rather than the east? Wouldn't that have been where the European ships arrived? (I may be wrong on this).
That said, I really like the mod.
CivLucas Jul 11, 2009, 04:10 PM I like the idea of the Hemispherical Islands mapscript. But is it possible to make it so that each civ actually starts in the west, rather than the east? Wouldn't that have been where the European ships arrived? (I may be wrong on this).

Don't give me too much credit for the Hemispherical Islands, it's from 'Colonies of the New World'. I think it is possible to let them start in the west though. I think they all did come from the west, except for some spanish missions who started in New Spain (Mexico).

I think it's a really good idea. But I'm not really sure if I am able to do it :crazyeye: I'm still a bit of a noob in that kind of modding. And every country should be able to do it.
There is an easier way to do it, but then the unit won't be civ-specific and you'll have to send a colonist to a native city...
CivLucas Jul 11, 2009, 04:17 PM What do you think of a playable Mughal Empire? with the Timurid Dynasty as europe-civ.
CurryAztec Jul 13, 2009, 11:10 AM you should do that CivLucas. The more civs, the funner this mod will be. I can't wait for this mod to come out, since it will be like a better way-improved version of my mod. :)
master_akura Jul 13, 2009, 12:39 PM I just downloaded the version 2.11, and I came across a bug. The Europe and Revolution buttons don't seem to work. Even the F2 and F3 functions, respectively, don't work for those.
TC01 Jul 13, 2009, 03:51 PM If you're going to expand this mod to the entire Asian Colonization period, perhaps a new subforum would be in order in the future? Mare Nostrum has one, and it's pretty much the same thing (Colonization in different time period).
Found the same thing as Master_Akura. Note that no European Water feature exists (on a Hemispherical Islands map), nor does the "Sail to Europe" button appear on the unit control panel (this is probably because the sailing to Europe command is impossible with no sailing-to-Europe area, and thus the game doesn't even show the button.) Thus, I assumed it was a feature. Is it a bug?

It could just be like sending a colonist to a native camp and training them, and you get a veteran (In this case a Gurkha) soldier. The bonuses should be Ranger I + II, to give them a territorial advantage. Or it could be the alternative to a veteran soldier for a converted native.
Not every country can have this bonus, as long as you want to be historically accurate. The Gurkhas could be the English colonial unique unit, and the redcoat could be the King/Queens. Although this is hard to incorporate into all the colonies, it can be done.
The Danish colonies could have a beefed up Privateer (+1 strength and cargo space) due to their piracy affiliations.
Just some food for thought.
By the way, Ove Gjedde wasn't really a Danish leader as much as an explorer, A good explorer founding father though. May I recommend Peter von Scholten. He built schoolhouses for overburdened slaves, so I would give him this trait:
Liberal: Free Schoolhouse in all settlements
CivLucas Jul 25, 2009, 10:58 AM Hadn't seen there was already a second page in this forum :P Version 2.12 will be up soon, I played it and seems to work fine, the Europe and Revolution screen are accesible. There are still some flaws though (one missing button, city names, etc.). I'm going on holiday tomorrow so don't expect any further changes the coming weeks. :)

I will look into it when I get back
I thought I had read that Ove Gjedde was the founder of Trankebar, which was the main colony of denmark. About peter von scholten, he was governor-general of the west indies, which is in the caribbean area. ;) Danish East Indies were in India
Gomer_Pyle Jul 27, 2009, 09:56 AM Are there no East Indies map yet? Only randomly generated ones?

Danish? I guess you just misprinted.
Vasco da Gama was a Portuguese explorer, one of the most successful in the European Age of Discovery and the commander of the first ships to sail directly from Europe to India.

Inspector Javert Jul 27, 2009, 05:06 PM Any chance we can have an opium resource (sorry if it was already added and I missed it.)
I-am-a-panda Jul 28, 2009, 12:57 PM An opium resource would be good. Though it should have its penalties (e.g. if you store opium in a city, you get -1 hammers, yields, crosses etc.)
Huayna Capac357 Jul 28, 2009, 03:38 PM But make it yield a crap load of money to compensate.

I-am-a-panda Aug 07, 2009, 07:40 AM Idk. Opium should be:
- Rare/Uncommon
- Low Yield
- High cost
- Work penalties for havign it in the city.

I have the same issue. I thought it might have been some sort of modification to not let you see what was available in Europe unless you have a ship there, but I sent a ship to Europe, its telling me I have a ship waiting at the docks but it won't let me use the Europe screen!
Has anyone else run into this issue!?
ADDENDUM: This happened playing as New China, which I prefer to play because of their food bonus. I'll try an actual European civ to see if that makes a difference ...
ADDENDUM 2: Playing as New Denmark, I had no problem accessing the Europe screen.
Further, there were no "Europe" sea squares I could see when I was playing New China; this stumped me but when I had my ship try to sail to Europe, it instantly vanished so I thought that might have been some sort of modification. However, the European sea squares do show up playing as New Denmark.
I will try playing several games as Europe and China to see if this "Europe" bug is repeatable.
Chibiabos Aug 07, 2009, 02:37 PM I have tested every civ several times and found Denmark to be the ONLY civ with a king! All the others (British, Chinese, Dutch, French, Burghal, Portuguese) do not have a king in the players list, the Europe sea squares are invisible and there is no access to a Europe screen. I have replicated this time and time again, and re-confirmed that Danish East Indies loads a king each time, has visible Europe sea squares and regular access to the Europe screen.
I have also found that when playing as a non-Danish civ and encountering the Danes, there is no music or text on their greeting message.
It would be hard for me to believe only one other person has encountered this problem.

That is very strange, I just tried a few different civ's on different maps and all seems to be fine. When I press f2 or f3 I get the right screens. There is a king that I can talk to and there are europe squares on the map. Maybe you don't have the most recent update (or I don't) ?
Edit: I have 1.01f
Chibiabos Aug 07, 2009, 04:43 PM ??? I have 2.12.
I play on the largest map on Marathon setting.
Chibiabos Aug 07, 2009, 04:48 PM On further testing, it only happens on Colossal sized maps. Giant and smaller has a king and Euro sea squares.
Very strange that the Colossal sized map gives only Denmark a king. I wonder what causes this.
TC01 Aug 07, 2009, 04:48 PM ??? I have 2.12.
I play on the largest map on Marathon setting.
He means the Col patch. Do you have it?
Chibiabos Aug 07, 2009, 06:12 PM Yes, I do
CivLucas Aug 08, 2009, 08:30 AM I have no idea why from the two map sizes I added, colossal doesn't work but giant does. I've removed it from the next version which will be ready in 2 weeks or so.
KJ Jansson Aug 17, 2009, 02:23 AM Download link on The East Indies 2.13 file doesn't work. Could you please fix this error or give the direct link to your file. Thank you in advance.
CivLucas Aug 19, 2009, 04:18 AM It'll be up, once it's been approved by the site.

Are you sure? Now the link for The East Indies 2.13 (http://forums.civfanatics.com/downloads.php?do=file&id=13035) has such message "This file is in the moderation queue".
drjest2000 Aug 19, 2009, 05:52 AM Maybe add a volcano as a terrain feature? Is that possible? Krakatoa is a spectacular example of the volcanoes of the East Indies :)
NeverMind Aug 19, 2009, 07:57 AM http://forums.civfanatics.com/downloads/col2map_indonesia_mk0.jpg
Hi, CivLucas!
This Indonesia map (184x104) seems to be very close to what you want, except India. I think we could add India, but it will be a very huge map - about 230x104. Do you have enough tribes to settle such a map? :)
NeverMind Aug 19, 2009, 08:05 AM I have no idea why from the two map sizes I added, colossal doesn't work but giant does. I've removed it from the next version which will be ready in 2 weeks or so. You have to add some lines to map scripts (not New World, but Caribbean and FaireWeather for sure) in order to use more World sizes.
Check my changes in Caribbean.py as a template.

CivLucas Aug 19, 2009, 11:58 AM Thanks for the Indonesia map, it's great. :D I haven't added any Indian natives so I could already start with a scenario. But one with India would be cooler (because a lot of the colonies-leaders are from India). There are 8 natives so far and was planning on 7 more. Do you think that'll be enough?
I could even add Aborigines seeing that Australia is on the map ;)
fat_tonle Aug 20, 2009, 07:42 PM When ever I try to extract the 2.12 file to the Mod folder or anywhere else the file freezes. Is there anything I can do, or is 2.13 already available to DL? Haven't checked the above link yet.

2.12 or 2.13?

drjest2000 Aug 22, 2009, 07:44 PM CivLucas, I am sure you know all of this already, but in case you don't, here's a few things that might help in making a scenario map:

There were settlements or trading posts by the Spanish in India proper, but it's unclear if they were distinct from those of the Portugese or shared ports for most of the period.
Here are some images for the flags and such >_<
I hope this helps make a great mod even better!
SunTzu_vs_Camus Aug 23, 2009, 07:57 PM I really love this MOD...well done to all involved!!!
Some Issues/(bugs maybe?):
I can't make the Jesuit Missionary setup in an Indian village.
Did it change from the old way? Am I missing something? Any ideas?
btw
I want to NOT have to declare Independance...I just want to win by Domination/Cultural ways...but the game does NOT work when I try and load a CUSTOM GAME. It freezes.
I-am-a-panda Aug 24, 2009, 07:27 AM Idea: The Chinese gave cities to Europeans for clearing out pirates.
Maybe you could use the Kings Commission Mod and make it so the Natives will tell you to get rid off marauding pirates in exchange for a city or gold?
Axis Kast Aug 24, 2009, 10:09 PM Can anyone provide some helpful instructions on how to install this mod after I've downloaded it? Thanks!
drjest2000 Aug 25, 2009, 06:54 PM Axis Kast, same as with the whaling mod:
Place the extracted folder in your MODS folder.
The usual location is in your documents folder:
~(My) Documents\My Games\Sid Meier's Civilization IV Colonization\MODS
watch out for a double folder
after it is installed to the MODS folder, start the game as usual, then select the ADVANCED item from the menu, on the next screen select LOAD MOD
+++ OR +++
The same except create a MODS folder in the Colinization program folders:
~Program Files\2K Games\Firaxis Games\Sid Meier's Civilization IV Colonization\Mods
It will be a different location in Windows Vista and requires some additional beating:
You will need to take ownership of the parent folder ( Sid Meier's Civilization IV Colonization ) . Right-click it, then select Properties, then select the Security tab then select Advanced, then select the Owner tab. There you need to take possession of the folder and grant yourself full permissions.... or just use the first method, it's far easier LOL
arkham4269 Aug 26, 2009, 10:22 AM Can anyone provide some helpful instructions on how to install this mod after I've downloaded it? Thanks!
I've a odd question about installation. I've been having some trouble reloading my Civ IV: BTS disk (it's old) so I decided what the hell and got the Civ Pack through Steam so I'd get Colonization. Well there are still remnants of BTS on my system where all my mods are so I have a place to unpack mods like LoR, RoM or FfH.
However, since Colonization is through steam, I can't find anything on my system other than saved games. So where (if it is possible) to I have to unpack this mod to? Do I have to manually create a sort of C:\Program Files\Firaxis\Sid Meiers|Colonization type folder?
arkham4269 Aug 26, 2009, 10:24 AM Also, I'm new to Colonization (or at least the Civ IV version) and I was surprised how 'meek' the natives are. Sure I've been paying them for their land in the few games I've played but in the original Colonization, there were always bands of disgruntled natives.
Anyway, I have yet to play this mod, but does it have 'barbarians' in the form of pirates? The whole Sumatra strait was a hive of pirates and Taiwan was a haven for the same for many a year.
drjest2000 Aug 26, 2009, 03:33 PM CivLucas, a big post and I apologise up front if this sounds pushy or something, I don't mean it that way at all.
I have been thinking about this since I started posting. I really enjoy the East Indies mod and probably play it more than any other mod I have downloaded. I don't know if it "needs" improving, but I have wondered if you would be interested in adding the Japanese and Pacific islanders as natives. I know the Portuguese were active in Japan very early in the period as well as the Dutch. Japan was a major source of income for the Portuguese and brought high quality finished goods like silk and porcelain into the European markets. The Catholic Church ( especially the Jesuits and Dominicans ) was ( were ) interested in the Japanese as a potential military force to combat the growing Protestant menace in Europe and as a invasion force to displace "heathen" states and powers in India and Asia, and made numerous attempts to Christianize the Japans until they became such a threat to the Shogunate that it resulted in the Closed Door policy with only the Dutch having access.
By the 1800s the whole of the Pacific basin was partitioned where almost every rock that stood above the tides was being used as a depot to refresh water supplies and repairing sails and masts for shipping lanes. Later these became coaling stations, but that's outside the time frame of the game. But even remote places like Rapa Nui (Easter Island), the Galapagos, and Wake Island became important to the Europeans. Many places and technologies that were formerly vital became unimportant after the excavations of the Suez and Panama Canals, for example Yankee clipper ships lost their importance when the Panama canal opened. After the opening of these two canals, only those powers that were in disfavor with the powers controlling the canals had to use the older routes rounding the Horns of Africa and South America, and that became a mere inconvenience after the development of steam engines and stabilizing gyroscopes.
As arkham4269 points out, pirates in the East Indies were always a menace to trade, even today we see it on the news. I have seen the entry in the Civ Info XML for barbarians, so I have wondered why they have not yet been harnessed as sea faring marauders. Even if all they do is sink ships, it would add the "danger" element that is largely lacking from the game's transportation of goods. The reason the European powers built large navies wasn't to wage war on one another, although they did quite often enough, but to protect their cash flow from the West and East Indies. In fact, I have often wondered why it is that the King doesn't simply impound any ship you send to Europe when you refuse a tax increase. If he has the power to refuse to trade a commodity with you and cut you off from Europe altogether, why not confiscate all your goods until you cave in and say yes? Hell, why do you even have a chance to refuse a tax increase until you declare independence? The historical colonies certainly didn't have this choice presented them LOL
Pepper, nutmeg, cinnamon, cardamom, and other spices of India, East Asia, and the "Spice Islands" were the main economic cause for initial European interest in area. Spices were a virtual gold mine for the European powers and even the Germans became involved in both missionary and colonization efforts - albeit late in the history of European colonial effort.
Cocoa (not coca), coffee, and then tea became fashionable and even addictive substances in the European market - each commodity developed a "coffee house" cult in its turn, leading to the importation of vast quantities of cocoa beans, coffee beans, and tea leaves into the European and colonial markets. The upshot of this was the establishment of cocoa, coffee, and tea plantations being located in any region with a climate suitable to the cultivation of these goods.
Latex and rubber were curiosities but became important commodities by 1820 or so, but that's too late a date for interest in historical game play. However, opium poppies which incidentally are native to the Mediterranean basin, became a crucial economic commodity fairly early on, resulting in opium plantations being established in many places. The native demand for opium due to addiction displaced the rum trade early on and became very lucrative, even crucial to the economy of the European powers in the East Indies.
Hemp also played a vital role in the economy of the time, being an absolute must for durable sails and ropes, displacing cotton for sails by 1650 in the Asian trade zone. Hemp became so important a commodity in the age of sail that hemp cultivation became globalized and hemp plantations were established every where the European powers went.
So I have wondered if there is any chance of having spice, cocoa, tea, hemp, and opium added as commodities to the MORE YIELDS module. By the 1700s you see pineapple, sugar, and tobacco being introduce in the East Indies, but largely sugar and tobacco are anachronisms in the East Indies, so a simple substitution of opium poppies with its finished good being opium could replace the sugar/rum commodity and hemp with a finish commodity of rope could replace tobacco/cigars.
Tea is maybe more historically important that either coffee or cocoa, but it could be added in a manner similar to that of indigo and coffee since it really doesn't under-go much of a "finished good" process.
I have already added Hawaii and Samoa to my install of 1.3 and it hasn't unbalanced the game play, but I am uncertain which personality and traits really are best suited to them. I'd like to know what personality and traits you'd think would make them work best with your design. I'm working on Japan now, what I'd really like to do is have the Japanese be like they are in Civ 4, a stone wall of diplomacy, rather than the suck-ups all the natives seem to be in the vanilla game engine. LOL
drjest2000 Aug 26, 2009, 03:37 PM Also, I'm new to Colonization (or at least the Civ IV version) and I was surprised how 'meek' the natives are.
Arkham4269, I'm not certain about the Steam version, do a file search for Charlemagne.CivBeyondSwordWBSave and look for a duplicate in a file folder other than the one you know. That will be a first step in locating the new Steam BTS mods folder.
arkham4269 Aug 26, 2009, 03:47 PM In regard to drjest2000's post about the King in regard to seizing ships is another thing that I'd expect is that you'd occasionally lose ships or sailors to impression.
As I said on another forum one of my biggest problems with Col2 is that the European Powers never seem to go to war with each. The whole reason King George III's administration raised taxes was they felt that after three colonial wars (as well as fighting the French & Dutch elsewhere) that the colonies needed to start footing more of the bill for their own defenses.
That would mean that the King should have forces in the New World and be there to help you out. I mean a colony couldn't expect to fight off a group of regulars from a rival country by itself.
Now in the East Indies, the companies where more like their own countries so this shouldn't be as pronounced, but at least there should be something going on like in Sid Meier's Pirates! when you'd get announcements that countries where at war. Perhaps the colonists will fight as well but might let it ride due to other issues. I mean if you have to deal with natives, fighting other Europeans might be a bit down the list of things to do.
Again I think that depending on if there is a war or not, the home country would send a few regulars out to help the colonists and also to lean on the colonists as independence talk kicks up. I mean having to quarter the king's troops in homes was one of the big gripes we had against George III.
arkham4269 Aug 26, 2009, 03:50 PM Arkham4269, I'm not certain about the Steam version, do a file search for Charlemagne.CivBeyondSwordWBSave and look for a duplicate in a file folder other than the one you know. That will be a first step in locating the new Steam BTS mods folder.
Found it! So, for Col2 mods, do I need to create a Mod folder? The BTS has a mod folder but I don't see one for Col2
drjest2000 Aug 26, 2009, 04:01 PM Col2 doesn't seem to suffer the same issues that Civ 4 does with the mods folder being in your Documents folder, some people say that mods work better on the install folder, but it hasn't been an issue on my XP system. It's probably different under Vista (which I am avoiding like cholera).
I'd say try installing the mods in your "My Games" folder first, if it gets hinky, then try creating a MODS folder in the Col2 install folder.
TC01 Aug 26, 2009, 04:32 PM People have (http://forums.civfanatics.com/showthread.php?t=330521) reported errors when installing mods to the My Games directory.
So making the mod folder in the Program Files directory is a much better idea.
arkham4269 Aug 26, 2009, 07:18 PM Even with Steam, was able to get this mod loaded and am playing.
One small gripe though...going to Europe still goes via the right side of the screen.
Shouldn't it be coming from the left side and going right? (West to East?)
Plus is there a recommended map? I'm just using the FaireWeather map that came with the mod.
CivLucas Sep 03, 2009, 03:17 PM hello everyone,
I've returned from my holidays in Spain. So i'll answer all the questions.
@ i_diavolorosso. 2.13 is the newest version, I forgot to change the link in the forum.
@ drjest2000. Thanks for the research ;) I was actually planning to only place native cities in the scenario map though, and then arrive by boat as a colonist.
@ SunTzu_vs_Camus. Thanks :D About the Jesuit, I believe it's still possible but just not a pop-up. So you should choose it in the actions bar. (This was not intentional btw). About the independance freeze, i'll look into it.
@ I-am-a-panda. I think I'm not experienced enough to do that:mischief:, and there are some more urgent things to do for the mod;)
@ drjest2000. The More the merrier. If you could send them to me if they're finished i can add the extra natives in 2.14. About the extra resources, it's a lot of work to add another resource, but changing one is doable. I was already planning on changing fur/coats to papaver/opium. About sugar and tobacco, if you would change them you do need an extra refined resource. The Leaders in this mod are from a timeline from 1520 - 1800 by the way, so they aren't such a big anachronism.
I hope everything is solved now :)
CivLucas Sep 03, 2009, 03:24 PM After some wikipedia research I found out that Sugarcane has its origine in India and New-Guinea, and was a great deal of the trade in the East Indies.
I overlooked your comment over Hemp/Rope as a substitute for Tobacco/Cigars, which is a good idea.
i_diavolorosso Sep 04, 2009, 03:25 AM @Civlucas
Is it possible to have a mirror??
Because you're file is very big, and atomic gamer, that has many speed limit, and does not support "pause n resume" isn't a good site for those who have slow connetion

Yep:goodjob:
Filefront is ok btw
drjest2000 Sep 08, 2009, 06:02 PM CivLucas here is the file with the civs I have added:
East Indies Additions Mod Mod.rar (http://www.filefront.com/14493343/East%20Indies%20Additions%20Mod%20Mod.rar) -- 9.64 MB (10,111,410 bytes) -- hosted at FileFront
Civs I have added:
Hawaii - Leader: Kamehameha I (Animist, Prosperous)
Madagascar - Leader: Radama I (Animist, Sophisticated *new trait*)
Majapahit - Leader: Jayanegara (Hindu, Prosperous)
Samoa - Leader: Titimaea (Animist, Gracious)
On a different note, I notice that the TXT_KEY_TRAIT_AGRICULTURAL_SHORT is missing from the China Game Text file. I corrected it easily by adding:

drjest2000 Sep 10, 2009, 08:13 PM very cool, thank you CivLucas! I also see that you've added some great new civs for 2.14 I am loving it! and the future aadditions all look fanatastic. I really love this mod *Important note: grossly inappropriate anime fan girl squee noises are NOT being made by the author*

drjest2000 Sep 15, 2009, 10:10 AM I am downloading and playing 2.15 at once LOL Thanks for all your work, CivLucas! Dank U zeer!
CivLucas Sep 15, 2009, 10:27 AM downloading and playing how? Graag gedaan ;)
drjest2000 Sep 15, 2009, 10:34 AM playing on the giant map with all the civs I can manage LOL
still, 18 minutes to complete download =(
SunTzu_vs_Camus Sep 24, 2009, 12:45 AM I love this Mod and want to get it working correctly but alas I am not too gifted in coding dept.
I'm embarrassed to ask...but I'm having some trouble (Tag errors for the new Civs) and was wondering do I just place the files in the correct folders or do I have to merge all the XML files for each Civ into the main game one (ie-CIV4CivilizationsSchema.xml)? Is it reading from the mods folder initially so I don't have to do that? I'm getting errors about the Tags of some of these new Civs that were added.
Any help would be very much appreciated!
CivLucas Sep 24, 2009, 12:58 PM I think putting the files in the stated folders should work, you do have to copy the maps over the existing ones:
Step 1: Paste 'CIV4CivilizationInfos.XML in MODS/The East Indies 2.15/Assets/XML/Civilizations/
Step 2: Paste the 3 maps in 'Extraciv's' in MODS/The East Indies 2.15/Assets/Modules/Custom Civilizations/
Never paste anything in the Program files of Civilization, if that's wat you're asking, always in the mod's folder.
CivLucas Sep 24, 2009, 01:23 PM I tried it out for myself and it's working fine. Keep in mind the Civ4...Infos.xml needs to be in XML and not in the Modules. And that you don't paste the "Esxtraciv's" map but the 3 maps in the "extraciv's" map.
SunTzu_vs_Camus Sep 24, 2009, 01:27 PM When you say "Map"...do you mean "folder"?
CivLucas Sep 24, 2009, 03:25 PM yes, sorry. 'Map' is dutch :mischief:
Mizeren Sep 26, 2009, 01:17 PM Hey guys!
I'm new here, and I'd like to ask a quick question. I try to start The East Indies from the shortcut folder, but the following message appears: "The drive or network connection that the shortcut "Civilization IV Colonization- East Indies .lnk" refers to is unavailable. Make sure the disk is proprely inserted or the network resource is available, and than try again".
Any suggestions on how to fix this and run the game with the mod?
I'd really appreciate any replies!
Thanks!! :P
CivLucas Sep 27, 2009, 06:35 AM Do you have two hard drives? Because then maybe the shortcut is leading to your Civilization folder in C:\ while on your pc it's actually in D:\ (or any other drive)?
nutnut Oct 04, 2009, 02:39 AM This mod looks absolutely amazing. You deserve an award for it.
However, I'm running on version 2.15 (with the patch and the extra Civs addon) and the game crashes at the loading screen with no explanation as to what's wrong. Has anyone else had this problem and were they able to fix it?
If it's important I'm running Colonization 1.01f on Vista.

If it's important I'm running Colonization 1.01f on Vista.
I don't have Vista myself so I don't know if that's a problem. Did you have the problem without the patch? and without the civs addon?
nutnut Oct 06, 2009, 12:06 PM I've fixed it myself. Re-downloaded the mod and inexplicably, everything works now. It's an amazing mod.
TC01 Oct 11, 2009, 10:06 AM I noticed your message in the Continents.py download page, so I did some investigating.
The problem is that python files (at least, as used by Civ IV) cannot have a space in their name. That's why Firaxis puts "_" in their mapscript names instead of spaces (A_New_World, not A New World), and why I tend to just get rid of the spaces entirely (NorthAfrica, not North Africa, or WildWest, not Wild West).
Both Hemispherical Islands and A New World in your Public Maps folder do not have spaces, and therefore, whenever I go into the Play Now or Custom Game menus I get a string of python exceptions.
Inserting "_" or getting rid of the spaces entirely fixed the issue for me, and all maps showed up properly.
Karstedt Oct 13, 2009, 03:02 PM Great work. I've only played it once, but I like it. I did notice that it runs a little slower than vanilla (and AoDII) and it eventually crashed on me. I don't don't know why, but if it continues to happen I'll try to pay closer attention.
Update: The crashing seems to only happen on the huge East Indies map. I'm playing the mod on the East Asia map with no problems right now. Does anyone else have trouble on the huge East Indies map?
CivLucas Oct 29, 2009, 05:23 AM Hello everybody,
One big update coming up :) I hope it'll be up today.
bruno1968 Nov 01, 2009, 06:39 AM I think putting the files in the stated folders should work, you do have to copy the maps over the existing ones:
Step 1: Paste 'CIV4CivilizationInfos.XML in MODS/The East Indies 2.15/Assets/XML/Civilizations/
Step 2: Paste the 3 maps in 'Extraciv's' in MODS/The East Indies 2.15/Assets/Modules/Custom Civilizations/
Never paste anything in the Program files of Civilization, if that's wat you're asking, always in the mod's folder.
CivLucas,
I got an error similar to the one you gave out this solution. I'd like to try this fix but I don't understand which CIV4CivilizationInfos.XML I have to paste and which 3 maps I have to paste too. It seems clear that I have to paste inside the East Indies folder.
I have this doubt because with 2.17 there's already a CIV4CivilizationInfos.XML file inside that folder.
thank you for any help.
CivLucas Nov 01, 2009, 12:11 PM Sorry, I guess I didn't put it very clear. But the 2.15.b update is already in 2.17 so you don't have to paste a thing :) It's just like any other mod.
bruno1968 Nov 01, 2009, 01:15 PM Well, but I got these error messages about new civs. You said that it is suffucuent to put the folder or into My Games or in the folder's game, isn't it ?
But it's not starting anyway.
No way of helping me ?
CivLucas Nov 02, 2009, 09:55 AM Ehm, where did you paste the folder 'The East Indies 2.17' exactly?
bruno1968 Nov 02, 2009, 11:45 AM Now it is inside 2K Games/Firaxis/Sid Meier...Colonization/MODS.
I tried to put it into Documents/My Games/Sid Meier.../MODS but it's not working anyway.
One thing: I have the Age of discovery II mod inside My Games and this one is working instead !
CivLucas Nov 02, 2009, 12:44 PM weird, do you have the latest version of the game?
bruno1968 Nov 02, 2009, 01:07 PM No, not still. Do you think I should update ?
i_diavolorosso Nov 02, 2009, 09:46 PM No, not still. Do you think I should update ?
Of course you have to:)
And update it manually. The in game updater can't be trusted:p
bruno1968 Nov 03, 2009, 10:03 AM Very well,
I updated the game and it's working BUT East Indies starts but I cannot see the names of most of the leaders when I select my side.
What do I do ?
CivLucas Nov 09, 2009, 09:14 AM Do you have the right Civ4CivilizationInfos.XML , the one from 2.17?
bruno1968 Nov 09, 2009, 10:11 AM Yes, it is inside 2K Games\Firaxis Games\Sid Meier's...\MODS\Assets\XML\Civilizations, 323 KB.
CivLucas Nov 11, 2009, 10:30 AM Maybe there is some stuff in CustomAssets that's interfering
bruno1968 Nov 11, 2009, 11:14 AM Which stuff re you suspecting ?
CivLucas Nov 12, 2009, 10:17 AM If you don't put anything in there that you want to keep, i'd delete all the files there. (Don't know if you can just delete all the folders)
Hephaistos Nov 14, 2009, 05:10 AM Hi, I really like the concept of this mod and started playing it today.
However the first time the game crashed when I was doing a normal move on the mainland (no tribal villages or attacks, Danish scout). Didn't think much of it and restarted.
Second time I played with the mongols (or something like that) and I noticed that the first three or so times I entered the Europe screen everything was fine. After that however the bottom trade bar and the three immigrant reruits were missing. I could sell resources from the ship and I could buy normal full price immigrants though. This worked for a few times until I tried buying an elder statesman. It didn't show up on the docks but I did see a load unit button on the ship. I tried loading and it crashed.
Using Vista. When stability increases I'll try this mod again. Great work!
CivLucas Nov 14, 2009, 01:12 PM i've been having problems like that too, maybe I put it up a bit too hastily ;) I really don't know what causes all this trouble. I only added new units and flags...
I'll upload 2.16 one of these days which doesn't include the ships and can be played.

Please do upload 2.16. I just got the game a few days ago on
ebay and loaded your 2.17 and started playing. I was having
fun. The first few turns the Europe screen had no exit button.
After the king started taxing me the exit button showed up.
A couple of turns later I think I purchased a vet soldier, made
him dragoon, and then noticed the goods bar and the folks on
the dock gone forever it seems.
CivLucas Nov 20, 2009, 11:50 AM I've been busy formatting my pc, so it takes a little longer. Do the other downloaders have problems, is my question. Since it's been downloaded almost 500 times now...
tedrock7 Nov 22, 2009, 12:57 AM So, CivLucas, I started playing 2.15 while I wait for 2.16 or
a fix for 2.17. I was playing on the India map and having such
fun, but then it crashed. Boo Hoo! Please upload 2.16 so I can
try again.
CivLucas Nov 22, 2009, 10:26 AM I've been working on 2.16 these days, implemented some things from 2.17 that don't cause crashes. And it seems to work great, played a caribbean game for 300 turns and no crashes at all. :D

So, CivLucas, I am downloading version 2.16. But amazingly I
am on turn 170 using 2.17 on the India map with no problems.
Perhaps the problem is map specific? I wanted to tell you what
fun I am having. The original Colonization is an old favorite.
And India is a place I am fascinated with. So I have gone in
as the British, looking for my favorites, the Bengalis, to save them from the Mughal menace. Ha! Not exactly the goal the designers had in mind? But anyhow I am sort of a fan of yours. The only way
to make it better for me would be if the ships started on the Bengal side side of the map and there was a playable Hindu faction. But anyhow I am playing Colonization in India so it is
great, thanks for making it. Ted
CivLucas Nov 23, 2009, 04:02 AM Thank you, I'm glad you like it :). Starting in the east would be a bit odd, since the europeans came from the west. :P I've been thinking of a hindu civ too, was thinking about the maratha empire, if you could help me out to find 3 good leaders, and 3 leaderheads (http://forums.civfanatics.com/downloads.php?do=cat&id=37) I can create it pretty fast :D
Can you still buy guys in the europe screen though? Because that was the biggest error.
Edit: One big problem with the Maratha's is the city names, they mostly conquered cities so might be already in the game.

Hi, I am slow and still just on turn 230 but no problems, Europe screen or anywhere. I have almost all the map uncovered and never did find a Bengali though. I have a world history book that is telling me the big man in Maratha is Sivaji, who established the kingdom in 1674.Two other notables were Sindhia and Holkar.
Amazingly almost all the hindu looking folks were on page one in the link, taxiles, porus and chibinda. I am just scratching the
surface here, seeing the heads of such as hitler, aliens, aquaman, dr doom, Rama, and beowulf really send my mind to spinning.
But is still the Bengalis that get me, The rest here from wiki...
The "Bengal renaissance can be said to have started with Raja Ram Mohan Roy (1775-1833) and ended with Rabindranath Tagore (1861-1941]
Nineteenth century Bengal was a unique blend of religious and social reformers, scholars, literary giants, journalists, patriotic orators and scientists, all merging to form the image of a renaissance, and marked the transition from the 'medieval' to the 'modern'. During this period, Bengal witnessed an intellectual awakening that is in some way similar to the Renaissance in Europe during the 16th century. Thanks again, Ted

It's quite a large file, because of all the leaderheads. And of course if you have or haven't got a fast internet connection.
By the way it's not a patch or something, just an earlier version that I made but hadn't uploaded ;)
tedrock7 Nov 23, 2009, 10:47 PM Hi, I don't know if this will help, but before I started my
latest game I had reset some xp configs to "Let windows
decide the size of swap file and let windows choose between
programs and background priorities." Back to Maratha, their
overseas king could be Rama, let the other players wonder
where the stuff comes from. : ) About east side-west side, if you
are in a port near the bay of Bengal and you see a ship on the
horizon, you don't know if it came from east or west. I may have
to break down and try to figure out how to make games, I would
like to see the Vikings. Several Viking kings vie for control of
Europe? And modern day, the USA splits up, it seems to me the
possibilities are endless. The rules can be warped. By the way CivLucas, I never did find any Bengalis, do you know why? Were they wiped out before I got to their area or were they just not on the India map, do you remember?
CivLucas Nov 24, 2009, 06:20 AM The civ's and cities on the maps are still random, as I'm not really a map-maker I haven't looked into it yet.
Vikings and USA don't really fit in, I want to keep it as historically as possible and to keep the timeline from 1500 to 1800.

Normaly the speed of my internet connection is perfect. So i tried to reboot en retry the download. But it wasn't possibble to download the file at all. I got looped back to the download button, time after time.?!

Hi CivLucas, I have found the bengalis in about the year 1760.
And my ramblings about Vikings and USA, that would be 2 new
projects from scratch, nothing to do with your current project.
Could you kindly tell me in a nutshell, make it easy for me, how
to get started making a scenario. Say I want to make the Viking
edition, could I save time using a map of Europe that someone else
has already made and just convert it to how I like it. What tools and resources will I need to pull it off? The only scenario making
I ever tried was a couple on age of rifles and one on unlimited
adventures. Some of my favorite games have been Conquest of the new world deluxe, Hammer of the Gods, History of the world, Kingmaker, Son of legends, shining force, rings of power.

Hey, you should ask NeverMind or some of the other colonization map-makers, He made them all for me. There is a guide on how to transform civ4 maps into colonization maps somewhere on this site. And I believe that's what NeverMind also did. And I saw several map maker programmes for civ4 which you might also want to use. But fore more info you should ask somebody else. :goodjob:

What should I do ?

the only one I see are: Random, Chinese, Dutch and Portuguese. About the other ones, I can only see a void space, but it's possible to select them. Moreover, many leaders has no visible name.
CivLucas Dec 01, 2009, 01:59 PM @ bruno1968:
I don't really know what could be the trouble. Did you find stuff in the custom assets? You can always try redownloading the mod. Or reinstalling the game.
I hope this helps, running out of possibilities here.

No scenario's yet, only maps of east asia/india.

There are some problems with adding units from civ4 to colonization. But i'm still planning to do so ;) And I don't think it's possible to make the europe screen civ-specific.
Inspector Javert Dec 19, 2009, 12:43 PM Having trouble loading it up, I created a mod folder and transfered teh mod to a zip file then extracted it to the newly created mods folder but it's not showing up in the load a mod option is there a certain way I have to download it properly? CivLucas Dec 19, 2009, 01:55 PM The download already is a zip-file so you just have to zip it to the correct mods folder. Which is made when you install the game. I found this thread about vista on BtS. http://forums.civfanatics.com/showthread.php?t=328891 That will probably work too on colonization. Hope this was any help to you.

CivLucas Jun 29, 2010, 01:14 PM Hello everyone, i'll take some time to answer the questions ^^
@ Solsurvivor85
It's quite hard to add new resources, so I'm waiting for the 1492 mod ( http://forums.civfanatics.com/showthread.php?t=331867 ) to be released and then I could use the extra resources in that mod.
@ Pistoldreng
I'm sorry for that :P Easy fix: rename the correct mp3 file to: SwedishKing . Then replace the old SwedishKing.mp3 in \The East Indies 2.16\Assets\Sounds\Diplomacy\ with the new file.
@ Babri
go to Program Files\ ... \Sid Meier's Civilization IV Colonization\ the double click on "_Civ4CustomMods" (it's a shortcut to the mod folder) extract to that folder.

Hi CivLucas.
I tried your mod today, and i found that there is many good things inside. I understand that merging Dale's work into your own mod is too much work, but maybe you could look into some points to improve the whole thing. I would suggest :
- "balancing" some values such as education increase, number of months/turn (i would suggest downgrading to 6, considering your giant map size and the "continent" real size). Those changes should not be really hard to do (and actually, i did them already myself).
- including the economic and industrial victory conditions from AoDII, since they fit East Indies perfectly (a bit more tricky to do, could require Dale's help to size back all the lines he put everywhere or so).
- should you find the time, you should look into this founding father thing and eventually add the "lower grade buildings" thing from Dale.
Actually you've done way better than i would ever have, i only regret this little "unfinished" taste. Keep it coming! ;)

Tigranes Jan 19, 2012, 10:40 AM It's so sad this mod is no longer developed. I would love at least to see realistic tribe and city placement on the map... The concept of East indies is VERY unappreciated, under the shadow of Americas, yet it has its own importance...
