Wow. Can't believe it's Wednesday already. Well, Monday's Turn Chat didn't go as planned because of my battery charger, but I did manage to knock out 20 turns in 4 days. We'll try for another Friday night T/C.

If our current Ministers and Mayors would be kind enough to post Instructions below, they will be adhered to.

DemoGame, July 6th, 1200AD (http://forums.civfanatics.com/attachment.php?attachmentid=220279&d=1246938920)

Excellent, we almost have the whole continent! It's been awhile since I last posted, but hopefully I should be able to attend.

First notice (and maybe the only notice). I will probably have to move up the start time of the T/C tonight. Work has gotten in the way again. ;)

It might be as early as 1700 CDT (5pm). We'll see what happens.

Domestic Recommendations:

Sell unneeded barracks as soon as it is safe to do so, since we now control Sun Tzu's Art of War.
Build the Forbidden Palace in Maeve after the factory completes.
Change the Rhiannon, Molly, Tara, Caitlyn and Moria city builds to factory.
Rail to the Byzantine front.
Debate on Hoover Dam.

However, winning the war comes first.

We are going to play Settlers of Catan with friends, so I won't be able to be part of the turn chat.

Chatlog:

22:54] <Cyc> We don't ant to prematurely end our alliance with our good friend Bismarck.

Session Start: Fri Jul 10 22:49:10 2009
Session Ident: #turnchat
03[22:49] * Now talking in #turnchat
[22:51] <Fur> Think I'm logging as Furiey
[22:51] <Cyc> cool. thanks again.
[22:51] <Cyc> OK, starting T/C
[22:52] <Cyc> Starting Civ3
[22:53] <Cyc> I believe we're at 1200 AD
[22:53] <Cyc> <Cyc>: As you know, we etended our alliance against the Byz with the Cairde.
[22:54] <Cyc> We still have 16 turns left to eliminate 4 Byz cities
[22:56] <Cyc> We have Persian and Byz Galleons and Galleys up by old Formorach.
[22:56] <Cyc> We might have Rubber in 10 turns.
01[22:57] <Furiey> nice
[22:57] <Cyc> Looks like we're headed for Casarea for battle next.
[22:58] <Cyc> Any pre-turn irems you'd like to consider/chnge/look at?
01[22:58] <Furiey> Don't have Civ on this laptop which makes it a little difficult...
01[22:59] <Furiey> Hmmm, could download CivAssist so I can have some sort of look...
[23:00] <Cyc> Just wondering if you had prior concerns
[23:00] <Cyc> I'd like to take the Rufleman out of Tara and put him in Constantinople.
[23:00] <Cyc> I can wait for your dl
[23:01] <Cyc> :) Rufleman.
[23:01] <Cyc> They have ridges...
01[23:01] <Furiey> LOL!
[23:03] <Cyc> Cool. CommandoBob posted Instructions.
01[23:05] <Furiey> Probably better to continue, I have to fight with getting it to install with Vista :(
[23:06] <Cyc> k
[23:07] <Cyc> Looking at CB's Instructions, I'm troubled.
01[23:09] <Furiey> didn't we have a prebuild going for hoover?
[23:09] <Cyc> Maeve was supposed to build a Coal Plant next, then Hoover Dam. But CB handles Culture. The original plan was to have the Forbidden Palace out in pld Foorach Land
[23:09] <Cyc> Im ok with Factories
[23:09] <Cyc> What do you think about the FP?
[23:10] <Cyc> I don't think we should build it. I never do. My first Leder rushes it in an appropriate city.
01[23:11] <Furiey> I haven't seen the save for over a month now, but thought it was going in the conquered lands.
[23:11] <Cyc> Yes, I believe Glynnis is the best location
[23:12] <Cyc> It will bring us the best commerce and corruption fighting and culture
01[23:12] <Furiey> Here's hoping .NET 1.1 installs OK on Vista
[23:13] <Cyc> I don't agree with the concept that the FP lost it's lustre and is now just a gteway to aditional city optimization
[23:13] <Cyc> good luck
[23:18] <Cyc> Core cities changed to Factories
[23:18] <Cyc> 4 Riflemen still being built.
[23:19] <Cyc> End of pre-turn
[23:19] <Cyc> 1200AD/746g/ +42gpt

[23:21] <Cyc> Alex wants to purchase our Dyes for 13gpt.
[23:22] <Cyc> He's annoyed.
01[23:24] <Furiey> He always seems annoyed
[23:24] <Cyc> He will pay 15gpt. What do you think?
[23:25] <Cyc> No Instructions from TO
01[23:25] <Furiey> It's always useful
02[23:25] * Fur (mibbit@cpc1-flit1-0-0-cust389.lutn.cable.ntl.com) Quit (Quit: http://www.mibbit.com ajax IRC Client)
01[23:27] <Furiey> Arrgh, I now appear to have a 350MB Vista update downloading!
[23:28] <Cyc> He will not give up the Saltpetre without getting Sci Meth.
[23:28] <Cyc> I'll just do the 15gpt deal
[23:28] <Cyc> :)
[23:28] <Cyc> Done
01[23:30] <Furiey> We don't want to sell Sci Meth, and will have rubber soon enough

Looking at the pics, Coventry may also be a good FP location.

Ottomans declaring means we can get rid of their stray cities on our continent.

I can see where you're coming from, but 2 tiles North of Coventry is Tundra. The pic doesn't really show that. Let me get a better/different pic.

Furiey

Yes,if all the tiles in Coventry's cross were given to Coventry, both Kyleigh and Eileen would be severely resricted.

Cyc
Jul 11, 2009, 09:06 AM
The Glynnis pic above shows the close range cities affected by an FP in Glynnis. The Coventry as FP pic below shows the same thing for Coventry. The FP Land pic shows total coverage (although not marked in any of the pics).

Glynnis would cover to the South just barely touching Naisus and Sharona. To the East, City Red. To the West, Nottingham. To the North, just touching Reding. That's a pretty good span of helthy cities.

Coventry on the other hand would reach to the South only to just touching Rhona. To the East, matching Glynnis by getting City Red. To the West, again matching - Nottingham. To the North, we're looking at Richmond.

So with Coventry, we'd be losing better cities in the South for Tunra cities (or half Tundra cities) in the North.

Is that Greece in the modern times in one of the pics?

CommandoBob

On the Forbidden Palace I must be missing something. I don't understand why Glynnis is considered a good site for the FP. Once it is built, the location of the FP does not affect what it does. Whether in the core or on the fringes, the reduction to corruption is the same.

Which is why I opted to build the FP in Maeve. Build it quick, get the benefits and move on.

So why Glynnis? I am confused.

And if the answer is 'Personal Preference' that is fine. I am looking for enlightenment, not argument.

Well, in all of my years in paying this game, I always try to put the FP about 15 tiles away from the Capital, as it's corruption-fighting range is about 7 tiles in all directions. The notion that since Conquests was drawn up, the Forbidden Palace has lost it's lustre, so to speak, and does nothing but allow additional cities in optimization is incorrect in my opinion. I believe some of the heavy posters posted that so others would believe them and put the FP close to the Capital. I could be wrong.

But to prove my point (if Glynnis wins), I will take snapshots of the Domestic Screen before and after the FP is built. I will also save the game before and after it is built. This way everyone here can see the vast improvement in our economy. It works, trust me.

Let's try your plan and see what happens.

I have heard the build it close and build it quick strategy, getting the benefits earlier can be better than getting greater benefits later, but we have a leader we can use to build it so no need to choose somewhere to build it quickly. Maeve can use the time to build Hoover Dam.
