View Full Version : Play now my lord!
aelf Jul 09, 2009, 04:38 PM I've been seeing these ads about a game called EVONY. As if in a dream, I have a hazy memory of seeing one called CIVONY, a long time ago. Are they related??? :hammer2:
But perhaps that is not important. When I see one of those ads, what I see is a woman below the words "Play now, my lord", her eyes closed longingly as she awaits the arrival of her lord, who would embrace her as he embrace the rich bosom of the land he would rule. Best of all, it says "Free forever". I begin to have bittersweet visions of myself, an old man, playing the game as fondly as ever and never paying a cent.
I also see that the title EVONY bear a passing resemblance to a Civilization title. I wonder if Sid is linked to this intriguing new game. Besides, I've seen these ads on CFC a million times. It's clear that CFC endorses it.
So anyone played this before? I can't wait to try it but I want reviews!!!:banana::banana::sniper::rudolf:

leonel Jul 09, 2009, 05:16 PM Are those the ads where there's this lady spilling out of her dress looking perturbed?
Maniacal Jul 09, 2009, 05:54 PM What ads?
Captain2 Jul 09, 2009, 07:13 PM I have a sneaking suspicion that the game lacks women outside of their ads
carmen510 Jul 09, 2009, 09:01 PM I've played the game. Its certainly decent for a free game, but there's a LOT of server downtimes + excruciating load times when the server times out.
Think of this as a much better Tribal Wars, except all your resources will get plundered since the warehouses suck hard.
There is 7-day Beginner's Protection, which is extremely useful, but I hate it how you can't set to peace forever, you need to buy Truce Agreements lasting only 12 hours.
Lade Jul 09, 2009, 11:02 PM I think copyright issues made civony change to evony.
Captain Carnage Jul 10, 2009, 03:33 AM I have a sneaking suspicion that the game lacks women outside of their ads
LOL I agree
carmen510 Jul 10, 2009, 03:38 PM There are female avatars in the game, including ones for the heroes. But if you're looking for women like those in the ads, they aren't a major part of the game. ;)
aelf Jul 11, 2009, 01:46 PM My esteemed noble colleagues,
I am greatly heartened by the pleasing review posted here. I am also especially pleased to note the similarities between the graphics in this game and those of Age of Empires II - a fitting homage. Of course, I'm greatly titillated by the reference to the Civilization series that strikes one immediately upon looking at the ads.
I am very excited about the genre of free internet games such as this one, for I note that it offers one a quality pastime at no cost at all. And I hope that they will continue to spread the good word through countless ads that should be encouraged by those with a vested interest, such as CFC.
Play now, my lords!
aronnax Jul 12, 2009, 03:37 PM That woman looks like she is receiving and uh.. rubbing herself with what the lord gave when he was playing.
bad I know. Bad. But true.
MrPopov Jul 12, 2009, 05:29 PM Looks like EVEONY has gotten a lot of attention, but for the wrong reasons. It's advertising sucks

The game is ostensibly free, but supported by a tiny fraction of players making cash payments for optional items (sometimes referred to as "freemium"). Thus, the player base needs to be quite large for the business of running the game to be sustainible, and the game's creators regularly purchase internet ad space to promote their game. The most interesting thing about Evony isn't the game, per se, but the game's advertising. Here's one of the early ads.
http://kevinsung.org/?p=1966
Upon clicking the ad, you’re directed to sign up for an account. Then, you can start building your kingdom, slowly. But don’t worry. If you get bored, you can chat. It only costs $0.30 per line. Better cut down on those ‘LOLs.’ As for the banners and landing page and boobs? All lies. Horrible, horrible lies. The game is boobless. There are no wenches. There is no queen. There’s definitely no lover. In fact, if you read the game’s new player FAQ, it specifically states the following:
How do I get my queen?
There is no queen in this game, the ad you saw is for marketing purposes and seems to be highly effective by the number of times this question has come up.
I emphasized the bolded part for a reason...
Maniacal Jul 12, 2009, 05:54 PM It's sickening that people are dumb enough to pay for this crap and that the creater(s) of the game blatantly plagerise other's work for their game and ads.
MrPopov Jul 13, 2009, 12:59 AM Hmm this is interesting but I guess not too suprised given the (lack of) quality of Evony
Free Game Apparently Funded by Thousands of Stupid World of Warcraft Players (http://mu.ranter.net/civony/civony-update-free-game-apparently-funded-by-thousands-of-stupid-world-of-warcraft-players)
Turns out that umge.com is a Guangzhou-based company that is developing Civony, some other Flash game called Leuric, and apparently a traditional Windows client MMOG. They’re apparently also associated with WoWMine, an MMOG farmer/gold seller operation that gets bad reviews in MMOG gold seller news sites. Wait, there are review sites for gold sellers? Apparently, a lot of them, and one of them really really doesn’t like WoWMine and its apparent new identity as umge.com.
It's sickening that people are dumb enoguh to pay for this crap and that the creater(s) of the game blatantly palgerise other's work for their game and ads.

Nope, they put a wrench in your plans.
Captain Carnage Jul 30, 2009, 12:21 PM There was another thread on this too, we found out they were getting pics of the women from some costume site

That was about how much this game sucks. This is about how much this game rocks.
:p
Flying Pig Aug 01, 2009, 12:26 PM Sounds like the creator played too much civ to me

It still sucks.
Flying Pig Aug 01, 2009, 12:58 PM It sounds like it sucks to me - dungeons and dragons for people who can't afford the little dragons

Perhaps the right parts at least.

I've hadn't had to pay for chat. Must5 be somthing old and done away with.
echosfolly Sep 12, 2009, 07:31 AM I think it's a neat game for when I don't have the concentration it takes to play civ and want to just play something mindless.
