Firstly, don't pirate it, you will get screwed by the copy protection.

You may get lucky and find it in a store, but to save yourself some frustration, I advise to just buy it online. Make sure you get the Game Of The Year edition (often known as GOTY), which includes both expansions. You should be able to get it for less than $20.

After you get it, grab this patch http://operationflashpoint.filefront.com/file/Operation_Flashpoint_Game_of_the_Year_Patch%3B3973 2

Well, somehow or other I found the demo, and it sucks. Walking through the field and no enemies around on the first mission, bam a red flash, oh crap, I go prone and then dead. This happened 4 times :(

So never mind...

That's part of it's charm, no matter how careful you are, you could still be killed in the blink of an eye. Some like it, some don't :dunno:

Well there's a diff between realistic and unplayable.

Ah Flashpoint. Endless hours spent sneakign around on the floor with a sniper rifle before managing to steal a tank and blow everythign up. Good times.

Keep your head down fool. Anyway great game. Especially fun escaping the POW camp by stealing their choppa, killing everyone with it and then flying out only to get shot down, just barely managing to eject and getting back to base crawling with broken legs.

Heh. I made it back with the choppa. :smug:

Undoubtedly my favourite FPS of all time. Picked it up on impulse back when electronics stores had full-money-back rebates. Finally got GOTY about two-three years ago for under €10 while visiting Montpellier. It was the only copy on the shelf - a sign for sure.

*Ahem* Excuse me. It's a great battlefield simulator, and still an incredibly versatile engine eight years later. The modding community has an add-on for almost everything. I've played it so long, I feel disappointed when I see a health metre. :p

I loved it to, but I definitely had to be in a certain mood to enjoy it. There was an excellent satisfaction to picking guys off from 800ish meters away.

You will live longer if you're aware of your surroundings in OFP. You can look around you while you walk around, but you should stop to look and listen atleast every 50 meters to check your surroundings. You'll spot the enemy much easier while staying still. Don't cross large open areas unless you're sure it's safe and always have some cover nearby.

I actually never played the campaign. I'd just download addon's from other people and just screw around in the mission editor. :D
