This sucks. Will we ever play on time?

on time?
personally, i am happy those guys do offer and maintain all these  features of this site. i understand the XXXM-part as an idea of a monthly contest, not as something to be expected every certain day.

As it's going to take me many hours more to finish COTM 62, I don't mind the delay.

Yes, why so rash, aren't you getting a bit too hot over this issue? I suspect a bit of irony is involved - perhaps he's even trying to coax us into wordplay. Cool it, man.

I was looking forward to getting started on this one tonight but I understand that stuff comes up.

I was thinking of starting a game with China. Riders are fun units to use.

Does 5 billion/warm mean there's going to be lots of mountains and jungle?

5 billion means there aren't that many mountains because of erosion. There is not much of anything with 5G years. If you want lots of the same you should pick 3G years. Warm means does mean lots of jungle around the equator but "wet" should be added.

Me too. But I would be even happier if they would come out as scheduled.

I'm also quite convinced, that civ_steve is a mature, self-confident person, who doesn't mind the one or other comment on his performance. I don't even consider the possibility that he would stop doing what he does because there is some public interest in it! Like some thin-skinned, insecure, pimply, spiteful teenager, eh? I don't think so.

Why, he can even get another public comment from me:

civ_steve, you games of the month are great! If you would only once get back on track, you could publish them on the first and the fifteenth every month without changing the interval between them at all. Because even now, they come out with pretty much exactly one month between them.

I also want to give my big kudos to civ_steve! Some of the most enjoyable Civ3 games I ever played come from this series, and I really appreciate all the effort he puts into this! And after all: it's completely on a voluntary basis. :goodjob:

As I know for sure that I won't be able to compete in this one as well as in GOTM94, I volunteer for setting up GOTM94 (if it's not more work explaining to a newbie how this process works, than doing it yourself... and if it helps you getting "back on track").
(And of course if it's not more work designing a GOTM than playing it... )

Cheers, Lanzelot

The saves are now available.

Please remember that civ_steve designs all the Civ3 GOTM/COTM games single handed, and is clearly not able to play any of them himself. That's two games every month!

The Civ4 team, are also very skilled and dedicated, but we have more than one designer, and each designer produces one game every two months.

If the games were scheduled to be released "during the first and third weeks of the month", perhaps that would reduce the time pressures on Steve, and lower your expectations a little?

on the download page, it once says that this is an emperor and once that this is a monarch game.

I've just checked the start files, and they appear to be set to Monarch level. This is where the Monarch references come from. I've PM'd civ_steve for his input.

Some humor works better in person over a drink than it does in print. Steve, your efforts are much appreciated. Let me know if you need any help with DMing.

ObGOTM: Settle in place, maybe cross the river to work those 2 BGs??? I'm debating whether to do a 20K or a Rider conquest. I love those three-movement units.

Yes, checked the save files, and the Difficulty is set at Monarch level. The game release page and this discussion thread have been updated to reflect the proper difficulty.

And some comments regarding some of the other 'non-game' discussions in the thread: I understand the sentiment that Piu Freddo states - it does suck that the games haven't come out in a more timely manner. I do try to have the saves available on the 1st and 15th of the month, and when I haven't finished preparing a game, leave a notice so that the players will know the game's status. In any case there will be at least a month to play a game from whenever it starts, and I and the other staff do work to make any delays short. I don't know about being mature or self confident :), and I am definitely NOT a "thin-skinned, insecure, pimply, spiteful teenager", but I do have a family, a job that sends me on travel from time to time, (a mortgage and bills to pay  ), and other outside life events, so there is a constant pull that can form a tidal wave of other commitments at times. I think pretty much everybody understands this, so I don't consider this a big deal either way.

Finally I wanted to say that just as you appreciate the games being set up and the monthly competition/community that is GOTM, I (and all the staff) appreciate your involvment in GOTM and in playing the games and participating in the discussions; after all it is a form of partnership, because there wouldn't be much of a point in preparing games that weren't played.

Good luck in GOTM93 and happy civving!

Oh, never mind release dates. I think the staff's commitment to the community is demonstrated by the regular and prompt results announcements we get these days. :goodjob:
