Does anyone know how the latest patch affects Vista and/or Civ Complete (excluding Colonization) in relation to mods?

There shouldn't be a difference to the normal versions.

There shouldn't be a difference to the normal versions.

The problem is that most mods with Custom Dlls (particularly ones allowing for more civs) aren't compatible with either Vista or Complete. As suc I can't play RoM, Next War, Amra, etc. It's so hellishly infuriating. What I want to know is whether it is worth it for someone in my position to update.

Why can't you play them?
Shouldn't be really related to 3.19.

If 3.19 updates the Dll then surely it will have some sort of effect.

Sure that has an effect, but you should be able to play the 3.17 versions of the mods .

For various reasons a lot of mods don't work with Vista and/or Civ4 Complete when patched to 3.17 (and using the 3.17 versions of those mods). If I were to update my game to 3.19 (and then use the 3.19 versions of those mods) are they likely to work. This is mainly to other Vista and Civ4 Complete users.

And, is it possible to uninstall the patch afterwards?

Legends of Revolution works fine with Vista and Complete. And it uses RevDCM as a core, so I'm not sure your information is acurate nutnut.

Vista has no issue with custom DLLs. However, custom DLLs are locked to the civ version they were created on (as Firaxis changes the API with each patch). So a DLL created for 3.19 must be used with 3.19, and a DLL created for 3.17 must be used with 3.17.

My information is based on personal experience. Obviously there is something else causing a problem then.

Anyway, I've learnt of fix on the RevolutionDCM thread so it isn't a problem anymore.

Heck, I can't even run the 3.19 update on my Vista machine ... stuck on 3.17. So RoM will have to be run on an older version I guess.

Well I did the old copying the Beyond the Sword folder and renaming it then installing the patch. RoM only crashed because I had more than three civs on the map (talk about a system hog, I have 3GB RAM). So I did Quot Capita instead, then I could have 20 civs without it crashing, but at 25, it died.

How Do you uninstall it

How to uninstall what?
If you mean 3.19, you have to uninstall civ completly, and then to reinstall it.

Nope, re-open the patch executable and it loads up the uninstaller.

I'm not about to try this myself but I doubt that's right. The patch writes over the top of many game files and I don't know how uninstalling could possibly work. Unless the patcher is somehow smart enough to be keeping a backup somewhere (unlikely) you can't uninstall a patch once you've let it do its thing. You can however make sure to make a backup copy of your entire install before you run the patch. ;)

Well I accidentally re-opened the file after installing it and it said it was loading up the uninstaller. I didn't follow through with it as I backed-up 3.17 beforehand. I think it's quite possible that Firaxis did this due to the number of mods out there. When so many brilliant mods are made defunct by a patch people are doubtless going to be worried about having to choose between them and multiplayer. Having the possibility to uninstall makes plenty of sense.

Are you sure that wasn't the uninstaller for BtS itself?

Having the possibility to uninstall makes plenty of sense.

It might make sense but is it practical? As I said, it would need to keep a backup of all the files it replaced, and that could be quite a hefty sized backup. I am pretty sure the patcher does not open files and modify them like the patches for some other games do. Patches of that variety would be smaller on average and easier to reverse, but Civ's patcher just unpacks files into their directories, replacing old ones. This type of patcher doesn't suggest uninstalling would be easy, if possible at all.

And 3.19 includes all the files changed since BtS was released, even the ones not changed between 3.17 and 3.19, so that is a LOT of files modified.

Are you sure. Aren't there different versions? As 3.19 is most probably the last patch they'll release they may well have different versions, the complete patch (including all previous ones since release) and one for those on 3.17?

Mine was downloaded via the in-game updater and included all files that had changed since BtS was released. A ton of files were dated 5/14/09 (as all files included in the patch are) and yet were identical to the previous version. All the patches ever released were cumulative.

That would explain the ridiculous download size.

Part of that is also the fact that DirectX 9.0c is included in the patch.
