View Full Version : Random Raves VIII: Don't Stop 'Til You Get Enough
aronnax Oct 17, 2009, 05:31 AM My boyfriend is apparently stalking my online accounts (facebook, Youtube, CIV 4) so this is a rave that he loves me that much to do so!
=D
Okay... now, someone direct me to a judge.
Dachs Oct 17, 2009, 05:46 AM Yeah, FP, it was. It was also partly motivated by me half-jokingly attempting to incentivize his continued existence after he complained that he thought his stomach was bleeding after having downed a bottle of everclear.

You're in Singapore, it can't be hard to find one.

Ouch... I can't really talk about morbid bets, but that's almost a good one
EDIT: If you want another good usse for that stuff, try it in place of meths on a camping stove
SS-18 ICBM Oct 17, 2009, 11:05 AM I prepared for a test with the intensity of a category 5 hurricane. The actual test was a tropical depression.
aelf Oct 17, 2009, 01:32 PM You're in Singapore, it can't be hard to find one.
In Singapore, the judge finds you.
choxorn Oct 17, 2009, 01:45 PM Does the Judge also do that in Soviet Russia?
Kozmos Oct 17, 2009, 02:08 PM There are no judges in Soviet Russia. Just commissars.
Sashie VII Oct 18, 2009, 04:47 AM I am actually looking forward to work tomorrow.

Karalysia Oct 22, 2009, 11:53 AM That is a terrible movie.
No way. Nazi zombies.
Love Oct 22, 2009, 11:56 AM But still the most terrible plot everever, it's funny because it's so bad.
Karalysia Oct 22, 2009, 12:03 PM But still the most terrible plot everever, it's funny because it's so bad.
Oh sure the plot was nonsensical and all the characters were insane. Especially the guy who cut his own arm off with a chainsaw and burned the stump, that was crazy. But that's what made it so great.
Flying Pig Oct 22, 2009, 12:04 PM You people watch strange films
Karalysia Oct 22, 2009, 12:10 PM You people watch strange films
Some of them can be really good I recommend Låt den rätte komma in which is quite a unique vampire movie.
Eran of Arcadia Oct 22, 2009, 12:50 PM I have heard a lot about that one.
Love Oct 22, 2009, 12:52 PM With unique i hope he means bad. The book was awesome and i was thrilled to see the movie. But then it sucked.
Cheezy the Wiz Oct 22, 2009, 06:46 PM No way. Nazi zombies.

_random_ Oct 23, 2009, 07:20 PM Facing Binary is amazing. On a related note, I get a great boom of pretentiousness by discussing my love of an incredibly obscure electronica artist.
SS-18 ICBM Oct 23, 2009, 07:52 PM Call of Duty: World at War.

Nacht der Untoten the movie?
Kerozine Oct 23, 2009, 10:36 PM The ramblings of white trash folk are actually somewhat entertaining. :crazyeye:
Masada Oct 24, 2009, 07:01 AM I  Amazon, it has 7 copies of Abdul Haris Nasution: A Political Biography by C.L.M Penders for US$6.00. 7 copies, for US$6.00. I can't even get 1 here, let alone for US$6.00 try US$60.
Chalk up another reason to move to America. I'm up to two: Cornell and Amazon.
Angst Oct 24, 2009, 01:34 PM I watched Død snø it was awesome, bloody and gruesome satisfying. There's nothing quite like Nazi zombies.

That movie is indeed awesome.
Love Oct 24, 2009, 03:10 PM That movie sucks.
Angst Oct 24, 2009, 03:40 PM That movie sucks.
To ask; do you know what part of the movie caught my interest and what kind of movie taste I have normally?
West 36 Oct 24, 2009, 05:23 PM I did acid Thursday night with friends. Effing crazy. And amazing. Saw fractals everywhere, had a completely different state of mind... and ran around a golf course, at one point throwing golf balls (that my friend originally thought were diamonds) at these small stone walls on a hill imagining I was throwing grenades into pillboxes in Nazi occupied France. Felt so much energy and saw things change before my eyes.. man. LSD.
Ansar Oct 24, 2009, 08:16 PM Did not know I had listened to Michelle Branch years ago...glad to know that now.
Huayna Capac357 Oct 24, 2009, 08:51 PM I did acid Thursday night with friends. Felt so much energy and saw things change before my eyes.. man. LSD.
Is it true that the reverse can happen (you get bad trips, imagine bugs crawling across you skin, etc.) ?
Or have you only done it once?
West 36 Oct 24, 2009, 09:30 PM That was only my second time, the first being an experience almost purely of euphoria, with minor hallucinations (the clouds had a purple aura). This time they were more vivid, but only distortions of what I saw- things changing out of proportion, colors more vibrant. I didn't see what wasn't there. I've only done it at night though, so maybe in the day, with more to see, that could change, and most certainly with a higher dose it would. A bad trip I imagine is possible then, but if you know it's just the drug and try and take it easy, possibly with help from others, that moment should pass. For instance, I went through many different feelings and states in short periods of time, some sad or bad, but not in a way that scared me, just feelings of looking inwards and not being happy with what I saw. My friend did get antsy, but that's about it.
Love Oct 25, 2009, 12:49 AM To ask; do you know what part of the movie caught my interest and what kind of movie taste I have normally?
If you answer the first question, please let it not be the toilet sex scene. Please.
choxorn Oct 25, 2009, 12:59 AM @West 36: That sounds awesome. :p
Zack Oct 25, 2009, 09:34 AM If you answer the first question, please let it not be the toilet sex scene. Please.
What, a Nazi zombie had sex with a toilet?
Shekwan Oct 25, 2009, 09:49 AM I did acid Thursday night with friends. Felt so much energy and saw things change before my eyes.. man. LSD.
 Nice!
I'd love to try it. I've tried mushrooms and it was really good fun.
Love Oct 25, 2009, 12:55 PM What, a Nazi zombie had sex with a toilet?
Nah but the girl got dragged into the toilet just after.
SS-18 ICBM Oct 25, 2009, 12:58 PM Finally getting the hang of doing uncertainty calculations.
Angst Oct 25, 2009, 01:01 PM If you answer the first question, please let it not be the toilet sex scene. Please.
Lol, that was just cool. :p
I mean, Nazi zombies. That's freaking hilarious.
Love Oct 25, 2009, 01:39 PM Well it was terrible. Like that guys explanation why he had freaking machinegun on his snowmobile.
Ulyaoth Oct 25, 2009, 02:41 PM Just shaved for the first time in over a month(well, actually shaving with a razor, I haven't done since like June actually, I mean I buzzed all the hair off with a beard trimmer) so nice, forgot what my face felt like.
Kozmos Oct 25, 2009, 02:56 PM Now? But No Shave November is in a few days!
choxorn Oct 25, 2009, 03:20 PM Exactly, so it's cheating to have unshaved hair at the beginning. ;)
Angst Oct 25, 2009, 03:57 PM Well it was terrible. Like that guys explanation why he had freaking machinegun on his snowmobile.
It was kitsch, but it was not supposed to be serious, godamit. Zombie movies are like that. Hilarious, kitschy, and fun. It was an awesome movie.
And as you mentioned the toilet sex scene thing before, I'd like to add that I happen to like very few movies - the ones I like include Once Upon A Time In The West, 2001: A Space Odyssey, and Blade Runner. I like movies that can give me a kick. Just running up and saying a movie is terrible usually doesn't make it since it's meant to be idiotic. As a production, it's succesful. It has fulfilled its purpose as an awesome, non-depth zombie movie. If you disagree with me on that, I can't help you.
Then again, you can go act all snobby and call it terrible because of the style it's in; do note that my flavor, fx, represents some range of movie styles. You can choose to be narrow and say it's not your style, that that specific sort of movie is stupid. Sure, but if you don't understand a movie genre, you don't really have the ability to tell good from bad, do you? :p
Love Oct 25, 2009, 04:15 PM Well, if you look it from that angle, it's probably awesome. But the movie still is bad, and I'm not a big fan of zombie/ splatter movies anyways.
SS-18 ICBM Oct 25, 2009, 05:28 PM Writing the conclusion section of a university physics lab is definitely more interesting than a high-school physics lab's.
choxorn Oct 25, 2009, 06:30 PM Agreed, pretty much any writing assignment in high school is 5% interesting, 5% work, and 90% random bullcrap.
Karalysia Oct 25, 2009, 07:10 PM Agreed, pretty much any writing assignment in high school is 5% interesting, 5% work, and 90% random bullcrap.
You think its any different in college? It's not in most majors.
SS-18 ICBM Oct 25, 2009, 07:15 PM I assure you that writing useless BS in a lab report is a surefire way to throw away your lab mark.
Ansar Oct 25, 2009, 07:18 PM A on my last two tests.
Also, Maths is just too easy...no Further Maths offered :/
Cheezy the Wiz Oct 25, 2009, 07:22 PM Another great weekend!
Interviewed two artists for my term paper.
Wrote the rough draft of said paper.
Went for a run in the rain. Invigorating!
Got drunk at the Irish Pub with my best friends. Ate a wonderful Reuben.
Nazi Zombies. Nacht der Untoten.
Wonderful breakfast at this awesome diner that uses only products of the farm owned by the same family who owns said diner. Very cheap, very delicious. Had another Reuben.
Went tromping around Gettysburg battlefield with my friends. An absolutely gorgeous day.
Celebrated my first year anniversary with my girlfriend.
Yes, an excellent weekend indeed.
Ansar Oct 25, 2009, 08:00 PM Caught up (for the most part) with my online class . . . read a lot of history too.
Ulyaoth Oct 25, 2009, 09:24 PM Super Ulyaoth, to the rescue!
Saved some girl and her mother from being killed just before. They broke down in the middle of a highway, and their lights were going dead. We almost hit them but saw them at last second swerved away, came back behind them with flashers on so she wouldn't get rammed from behind(lol) and pushed her off the road. Then some idiot who doesn't udnerstand why people would put their emergency lights on almost hit my truck then and swerved off at the last second, he'd have definitely rammed right into her at like 80mph if we hadn't stopped there.
Also, neighbors across the street still suspiciously absent.
West 36 Oct 25, 2009, 09:48 PM  Nice!
I'd love to try it. I've tried mushrooms and it was really good fun.
The friend who had this connection tried shrooms just last week and thought they were awesome, they're on my to do list but are a bit expensive, so I'll just have to wait!
It was hilarious when he told me how big he felt, immediately thought Mario
Huayna Capac357 Oct 26, 2009, 04:07 PM Ad Block is awesome :D
choxorn Oct 26, 2009, 04:08 PM I has no homework tonight. That's an extreme rarity. :D

Dachs Oct 27, 2009, 08:27 AM I finished another installment of my ongoing alternate history timeline! :D
Ansar Oct 27, 2009, 04:35 PM 100% on my last Maths test :)
SS-18 ICBM Oct 27, 2009, 04:37 PM I am happy and equally envious of you.
Anyway, rave. Less work to do now.
MagisterCultuum Oct 27, 2009, 05:02 PM I thought I'd missed the deadline for a lab report again, but just found out the due date has been moved to Friday.
Riffraff Oct 28, 2009, 07:05 AM I had my last uni exam today!!
Will only graduate in a year as I still have final year dissertation coming up, but this was the last time of having to fit heaps of information into my hurting head :)
Smellincoffee Oct 28, 2009, 03:59 PM Today is a great day for a walk. It's cool, but the sun is shining warmly. I "had" to run some errands on my university campus on this lovely fall day, and it was brilliant -- picturesque, even.
West 36 Oct 28, 2009, 05:01 PM The Phils are back in the World Series, which is great, and it's against the Yankees, which is awesome, because I hate them. The interesting thing though is that where I live we get the Philly station and the NY station, both broadcasting the games, but also giving following their respective home teams, which is kind of cool!
Ulyaoth Oct 28, 2009, 05:19 PM Lol, Phillies getting swept.
Gilder Oct 28, 2009, 07:14 PM I'm really knocking back the paper I'm writing tonight like it was nothing. I'm glad I don't need to pull off an all-nighter for it.
Cheezy the Wiz Oct 28, 2009, 08:48 PM Shostakovich's Symphony No. 10 =
Listening to Shostakovitch is like hearing my soul in an orchestral score.

Hmm?
I agree, the Yankees suck.

Earthling Oct 28, 2009, 11:07 PM I just made an awesome and unexpected reference to Battleship Potempkin-thanks to a certain other poster for the inspiration! I'd even completely forgotten the name of the sequence and everything until just then.
Dachs Oct 28, 2009, 11:07 PM Lol, Phillies getting swept.

Earthling Nov 01, 2009, 07:51 PM Ray Comfort is doing himself a favor on "creationism vs. Darwinism"
Students can read Darwin's own explanation as to why there is no empirical evidence for his theory—that all "intermediate varieties" have disappeared—just like the Mormons' golden plates that the angel Moroni supposedly gave to Joseph Smith. There's one big difference, though, between the golden plates and the intermediate varieties. The Mormons say that only two golden plates are missing. Darwin says that millions of fossils (what he referred to as "innumerable," ibid.) are missing. After 150 years of desperate searching, the missing links are still—missing.
:goodjob:

Well of course they're missing, the vast majority of skeletons don't fossilize! Besides, we've found plenty of new species over that time, we just can't fill every piece in the puzzle because of the number of pieces there are!
Retarded Creationism...

Eran of Arcadia Nov 02, 2009, 08:27 AM Ray Comfort is doing himself a favor on "creationism vs. Darwinism"
:goodjob:
Yeah, I was feeling a little too sympathetic to Creationists lately . . .
(Fun fact: yeah, there is a huge amount of overlap between those who dislike Mormonism, and those who dislike the theory of evolution. Funny thing, that . . . )
Masada Nov 02, 2009, 08:48 AM It's early in the morning and I'm writing strangely lucidly. I also have to go to work tomorrow and predict a rout by around 10. That's unfortunate considering that I have some important work I need to finish by Wednesday which even under normal circumstances would be a difficult proposition. I'm just hoping that the work I did tonight isn't the rollicking hunk of turd that I fear it probably is.

ParkCungHee Nov 05, 2009, 04:06 PM "Machine Politics: A Continuation of Tainastry Political Culture amongst Irish Americans"
Btw, I google'd Tainastry and it couldn't find it. What does it mean?
Tainastry was a method of political succession in Gaelic Ireland. Essentially every son, grandson, and greatgrandson of the current monarch (called the Taoiseach) was a potential heir. From this group of potential heirs, there would be a vote, and the winner of the vote would become the Tainastre, who was the successor to the Taoiseach in the event of his death.
My argument is going to be that the culture developed under this system continued into the 19th century, and is part of the reason why Irish-Americans quickly adapted to machine politics.
Angst Nov 05, 2009, 04:11 PM I'm confused.
Me too.
I think they did it on purpose. Azzaman33's post was something he usually posted after the post present after his post if I'm fully understood.
Nevertheless, it gave me a wtf look and a giggle, so props to them for assigning the posts in that order. :)

Ahh that makes sense.
We still use the word - our Prime Minister is known as the Taoiseach, his deputy is known as the Tánaiste.

Yes, I know. It's made research a bit hard. Using JSTOR is out because it has nearly infinite results for articles about the modern Tanaiste, but almost nothing on the historical practice.

The only complaint I have with is the cable doesn't reach very far. This has forced me to adapt by putting it on the desk proper instead of the keyboard tray. This has the added bonus of leaving that tray open for homework, so I guess it was a blessing in disguise.
