How many units do you guys typically bring along against an AI with two cities and archers for an
...axe rush?
...chariot rush?
....sword rush?
Assume the civ does not have the UU for the rush(ie. War Chariots for Chariot rush, Vultures for axe rush, Praets for sword rush).
I know it varies, just asking for a typical example.

Axe or chariot. Assuming you are not on Noble or below when warrior rush is good.
Swords are a no no for me. I generally tech top of tech tree first. I normally trade for IW. By this time my rush is already done.

How many units would you bring for each though?

If the Ai has 2-3 cities enough to take out the capital. Normally 2-1 axes to archer ratio allowing for the AI to whip 1-2 archers. Protective Ai might require closer to 3-1 ratio.
So maybe 8-12 axes normally works for me. If the axes have city raider or cover against archers this makes the odds more favourable.
Of course this all depends how early you do your rush. For me once I have BW/AH teched and I have copper/Horse I am good to go and grab the resource rich AI capital. You only really need 1-2 cities before you rush.
Downside to the rush is -1 diplo hit. Do make sure the Ai land/capital is worth rushing. Its good to have a plan at times.

8-12 isn't a bad ballpark estimate for either an axe or a chariot rush in my (limited) experience.
