The seam to be very few MP games going on here. The forum was opened with the form of tournaments, online gaming, AP V Whitefire, etc... and I haven't seen much of this.

So come on someone must be interested in an online game with the newest patch. My timezone is GMT (+0) and the only times I can't play is friday, saturday and sunday evenings. Also as I work quite late then my sleeping times sometimes get messed up so I don't even mind playing at 2 am!

I am on UTC +1 also. I would be up for a game this Monday or Tuesday evening.

I never tried an MP game but starting tuesday I'll have plenty of time on my hands for at least 3 weeks. My timezone is GMT+2 so Panopticon could you please check what time of the day would that be at Tuesday evening? I would but I have no idea what UTC is 0_o.

Sounds good. Care to sort out the details? Would it be better to do that here or via pm?

EDIT: Crossposted!
As the are three of us it might be best to sort it out in the thread.
Also BurnEmDown, UTC is Universal Time Code, which is basically just a politically correct term for GMT. Like BCE=BC etc...

Also what start do you guys want? My vote is for 600ad, but am happy with the others...

This is the correct thread, right?

UTC is GMT but easier for non-English speakers to recognise. It is 2225 (British Summer Time) where I am, so that is 2125 UTC.

I prefer 600AD as well, but I don't mind.

Standard settings and all victory conditions?

What time would be best to start on Tuesday? I am good all day...

What civs does everyone want? I would probably play as a euro civ, but am not sure which yet...

I am free at any time Tuesday. Any settings/victories.

Me too, maybe not too early in the morning, say from 11AM till 2AM I'll be available all these hours.
However as I wrote before I've never played a MP RFC game, is it the same as playing normal CIV MP game online?

kairob
Jul 26, 2009, 04:41 AM
Yes, but if we pick civs starting later we need to wait for them to spawn before joining. Which means one of us should play from the start (even if he changes later) and tell the others when their civ has spawned.

BurnEmDown
Jul 26, 2009, 05:57 AM
OK then, so we should write here which civs we'll be taking, and then we'll see who'll start the game, when should he stop to let the others know when to join, and all that? If so I'll be either France or England, I don't mind chosing one over the other if one of you wants one of them. If you both don't choose one of them I'll be France I guess.

Should we leave out UHV wins?

BurnEmDown
Jul 26, 2009, 09:05 AM
OK, I was going to settle 1SW of Paris anyway :P

kairob
Jul 26, 2009, 03:41 PM
I'll be Spain, or if someone wants Spain then England. Also I second the no UHV idea.

Also @ BurnEmDown, IIRC when you take over the civs on the AI has already started and settled your capital, so Alternate Capitals won't be an option. Annoying I know.

Panopticon
Jul 26, 2009, 05:59 PM
You foolish Christians. I shall play as Arabia.

BurnEmDown
Jul 27, 2009, 05:21 AM
Damn! That changes the whole point of view of which civ to choose. I guess Turkey would be a great civ to choose since the AI gets bonuses that the human player doesn't, but with that civ it would be too easy to kill Arabia :P Then my pick is the Netherlands!

kairob
Jul 27, 2009, 10:00 AM
So Arabia, Spain and Netherlands?

Also BurnEmDown, which was is that changes things, playing against Spain or Arabia? If you wanted Europe to yourself I have an urge to play china. (especially as my top secret plan to invade Egypt has been thwarted by a human player being Arabia...

Also we havn't agreed a start time yet. My email is kairobinson(at)gmail(dot)com if you guys want to email me your IP's assuming we are going for a direct IP connection. Panopticon, you might be best hosting it as your civ is in from the start.

BurnEmDown
Jul 27, 2009, 11:00 AM
What I meant was that because the AI will settle Paris that will destroy my settling plans from the get-go. However, the worst possible scenario I could imagine with an AI playing the Dutch up till I take over is founding a city in Denmark in a so-so spot.

kairob
Jul 27, 2009, 12:00 PM
You should get them on the turn they spawn but after the AI has moved everything. So hopefully not even that. :)

What time is good to start?

BurnEmDown
Jul 27, 2009, 01:37 PM
For me any time. I'll send you my IP address right away, and also if you have messenger add the email address that sent you the message.

Panopticon
Jul 27, 2009, 03:46 PM
OK I will host. Can we begin the game at 1 pm GMT? (i.e. 1200 UTC)

kairob
Jul 27, 2009, 05:19 PM
Ok. Sounds good to me. Does your game alt-tab very well? If so email me when your ready for me to join, mine alt-tabs pretty good so I'll have civ up and waiting and just flip over to it after your email. BurnEmDown, can you do the same when you join?

BurnEmDown
Jul 27, 2009, 05:46 PM
That would be 3 pm for me, sure :)
Panopticon you could start sooner since you'll be the only one playing until Spain spawns anyway, so whenever you're good to go just start.

BurnEmDown
Jul 28, 2009, 03:03 AM
I don't need to alt-tab my game, I play windowed mode. I'm ready to play now and will send an email in a second.

kairob
Jul 28, 2009, 04:14 AM
I am ready too. Panopticon, just let us know when your up. :)

BurnEmDown
Jul 28, 2009, 04:19 AM
OK so we are going to be playing by IP? If so, Pan, when you are ready send us your IP in a private message.

I can't play all of this week, but if you guys play another game I'd be interested - bearing in mind I can just about win in Viceroy mode, so go easy on me :D

As a suggestion, maybe all interested players should share MSN/AIM/whatever addresses, or maybe we should get an IRC channel or something a bit more instant to make setting up new games painless. If we use MSN for instance, you can quickly see who is online and start a game in five minutes instead of making forum posts :)

BurnEmDown
Jul 28, 2009, 06:36 AM
Yeah That's what I was thinking killerkebab. If you are a beginner that can be easily balanced in RFC if you choose a strong civ like England, Germany, Japan, or Turkey.

Panopticon
Jul 28, 2009, 06:38 AM
I will be delayed, but I will be back by about 1.30 pm.

kairob
Jul 28, 2009, 06:41 AM
@ killerkebab - Sure, I'll be up for another game next week. Maybe see you then?

@ Panopticon - OK. Sounds good. :)

Panopticon
Jul 28, 2009, 06:51 AM
I won't be able to play next week because I'll be in Newcastle, judging debates.

kairob
Jul 28, 2009, 07:10 AM
Thats a shame, but as they say in the civ 3 section 'real life comes first'. ;) So good luck at your debate!

Anyways looking forward to the game. Good luck all!

I've never hosted before, what do I do?

kairob
Jul 28, 2009, 07:37 AM
Ah, ok.

Go on multiplayer, then direct IP connection. Then click on 'new game' under host a game on the left hand side. When your in pick arabia and when you hit turn 12 wait a while untill I join.

Panopticon
Jul 28, 2009, 07:41 AM
Underway. I'll post at turn 12. Remember, no UHVs!

TDK
Jul 28, 2009, 07:42 AM
I would like to join in a few hours, is that possible? I can play a later civ like Portugal, Inca, Aztec or Mongol.

Cheers,
TDK

It's a bit late really, especially if you'd just come in for a few hours and mess up the balance and leave. And the more players the more frequent OOS errers we'd have. I do have a lot of free time on my hands this summer though, so maybe in a couple of days I can play you? Or the will hopefully be a game with killerkebab next week. You'll have to see what the others say though, if they both don't mind then I won't complain...

BurnEmDown
Jul 28, 2009, 07:52 AM
I don't mind as long as there won't be too much lag, maybe you could spawn as America if we'll get there by that time. Or perhaps we could just play another game tomorrow :)
Anyone interested in a MP game can contact me via MSN or email at amit_reuveni@hotmail.com.

If you read the manual you'll see that's exactly what it says :P
kairob did you manage to connect? I tried connecting just to see if it will work (wasn't going to pick a civ) but all I get is "the connection attemp to the host has timed out".

kairob
Jul 28, 2009, 08:28 AM
Yeah, we are having trouble, I am hosting to see if that works, I'll email you my ip. :) and again when the dutch join the game. (speaking of which do you know what turn/year they join?

BurnEmDown
Jul 28, 2009, 08:38 AM
yes, that would be turn 214 on year 920, but if the first turn in the game is 1 it should be turn 33. (I checked and the first turn in normal 600 AD is 181).

We have got to ~1500AD. After flubbing up Arabia, I switched to Russia and now we control the land from Berlin to just east of the Urals. kairob is playing as China and as fellow Communists we have agreed to a partition of the world under socialist lines. BurnEmDown is playing as Netherlands as advertised, and is doing very well as a colonial power, but the Dutch military record is rather mixed ;)

I'll take screenshots later in the game.

Only waiting for Panopticon now :) kairob maybe you want to start a small game just the two of us, maybe TDK will join when he can also. TDK if you see this message and want to play add me to MSN: amit_reuveni@hotmail.com
(you can also send a PM here but It might take some time till I check it).

Yeah sounds like an idea, log onto the hamachi network and we can discuss it some more. :)

BurnEmDown
Jul 29, 2009, 05:32 AM
I'm in the RFCMP network, but I don't think you're connected. BTW should we play a 3000 BC game this time?

Jul 29, 2009, 11:15 AM
Panopticon you there? Were ready to play. :)

Ok, all my current mp games are either finished or on hiatus, so if anyone would like a game then just let me know. :)

BurnEmDown
Jul 30, 2009, 10:43 AM
kairob, I wonder if we could think up some cool challenges for MP, something like "who can get the most gold by year X" but more unique and creative, maybe when players are colonial powers "who will vassalize America", or "who can control an entire continent".

kairob
Jul 30, 2009, 06:50 PM
With four players we could have two pairs, like Spain and Portugal v. Netherlands and Britain. With fighting only outside Europe? Or Russia and Germany against Turkey and Arabia (with fighting in Europe, obviously).

Or even 3 player team games; Inca & Aztec v. Spain.

BurnEmDown
Jul 31, 2009, 02:36 AM
Sounds cool, I'd like playing challenges that are more historically correct, so both your ideas sound cool.
How about 3 V 1, Maya, Aztec, and Inca VS Spain, and Spain lose if any of the 3 players still stands when America spawns? (sort of Americans VS Spain game).

A Hamachi network sounds like a great idea, we can send instant messages across it, see who is online, and even set up games effortlessly. What is the network name (assuming someone has made one already?)

This might even be something we can add to the RFC main page (I don't know how to edit it), that way we could get lots of players and more games going :)

I have already set up a network but didn't post the details to avoid bots and muppets, but just ask anyone who has it (like me) for details in a pm.
