Hi everybody!

I've recently made two changes to my game. One of them was somewhat natural: after winning pretty much every monarch game I played I moved up to Emperor. The second one was drastic: I started to play with the standard number of civs. I used to always play against 17 AIs which on one hand made diplomacy more difficult but on the other made the game really easier because all I needed to do was to build two or three cities plus the capital, conquer one or two AIs and become a runaway. So now I've been finding out how ineffective my game is until the industrial age.

That got me thinking of playing some games online to get some advice and develop my "situation awareness". I've read a lot of the walkthroughs, strategy articles and, even when I didn't say anything, followed many discussions here. What I find difficult is to clearly evaluate the situations I find myself into in order to respond in a more optimal way and the more basic concepts such as city placement and specialization, techpath, really early build order and so on.

My idea is to play the same leader over and over in different maps trying to pursue all the victory conditions, except for time. I think it should be a middle of the pack leader, no Darius, JC and no Boudica or Tokugawa. Some balanced leader that doesn't point to a certain direction, like Genghis Khan and that isn't so good that will make things easier no matter what such as Roosevelt or Suryavarman (at least when you play him, you know he's not going to be around. :D). I was thinking of playing with Brennus because he has solid traits, niche UU and UB and not so hot starting techs. Is Brennus a good leader for that? If not, which one should I pick?

IMO any german or american leader would be fine. Someone like izzy would be fine. Basically pick anybody except the top tier leaders and its fine. Genghis Khan DOES have a logical course - keshik rape, so he's probably not a good call for this.
