I thought it would be interesting to set up a game with a random civ and ask people's thoughts on the initial turns - based on surrounding terrain and the traits of the civ in question.

I've set up the following:
Continents
Climate: Temperate
Sea Level: Medium
World Size: Standard
Difficulty: Prince
Speed: Normal

And randomly been given the Germans - and so begin with Hunting & Mining, and have the Philosophical & Creative traits.

I've attached the initial view below and would be interested in hearing everyone's thoughts and their reasons for thinking them.

As you can see, there's the opportunity for a coastal city, three hill in the intial 9x9 city square and sheep (which require Animal Husbandry, two techs away for the German start)

Send the scout inland, if you see anything interesting move in that direction otherwise settle 1E then research AH -> BW.

Moving the capital is for Deity players only.

Settle in place, build a worker, and research Animal Husbandry to improve your resource.

Post another screenshot after you explored 8 squares in every direction.

Scout inland look for enemy - have settler follow. Research Archery.
Find enemy, attack. this is the superior.
