lately ive been playing around on the 18 civ earth scenario and ive had a few decent games but none where i was just a powerhouse , ive used Fredrick and Cyrus and had moderate sucess. I was wondering if anyone had a good strategy with a civ on this map. I also dont like using the western hemisphere nations on this map because its not so fun with just two ai's to mess with.

Play as Rome, beeline Iron Working then take out Izzy (who probably has founded a religion) first, and then Louis and Freddy with your Praets.

If you check out the pre-made map section there are some earth maps that only have old world nations which you might prefer.

play as any european, spam warriors and take over europe, then cruise to the victory condition of your choice. is cheesy but always effective......

Iron will pop up in the BFC of rome. Hook it up. Roll out the preats and kill everything in sight.

All of the strongest strategies on the Earth 18 map will have a common theme, "take over Europe."

Here are a few of my favourites:

Egypt: Get AH right away, and spam War Chariots. Build your 2nd city south of Thebes on the Nile River. Take over the Middle East and Persia (leave India to clear the Jungle to China, in fact, gift India Iron Working when you can to give them a head start.) Head northwest into Turky and take over anything in Europe. You want to do this fast, before Rome has time to develop a lot of Praetorians. Mathmatics comes in handy here.

India: Build 4 warriors and warrior rush Persia. If I remember right, Persia grows to size 2 on turn 32 in Marathon, so you should be able to hold Persia fairly easily. Persia makes a excellent early offensive military city. Eventually I change Persia to a defensive military city because it simply can't keep up in production with most of the European cities. Anyways, after you have Persia, head west and settle a city in the Middle East on the river kinda where Baghdad is in real life. This is your future GP farm. Then head into Europe and take over Europe. Eventually I move my capital to somewhere in Europe and have India build the Forbidden Palace.

Rome: Beeline Iron Working. Win the game.

Given how many people there are to take over in Europe and Asia, it is very common to play as a warmonger in the Earth 18 civs scenario. This means beelining military civs can be extremely useful.

No matter who you are, beelining Civil Service + Machinery is very handy. After that get Feudalism for vassals, vassalage, and Longbowmen. Tech to Banking (should be quick after Feudalism) then go for Liberalism and try to steal Democracy with it. Economics is a handy alternate if you don't think you can get all the pre-reqs to Democracy. After that it's a short trip to get Rifling and Military Tradition for Calvary. By this time two movement offensive units will be very handy in travelling across your vast empire. Anyways, after that go for Steel for Cannons (probably won't be necessary, but it puts us on the right path) and grab Railroad. From here you can greab Industrialization for Infantry and Factories. By this time you should have the game in your hands easily.

The key to war on the 18 Civ map is to constantly be at war. This means you'll need a good strong economy from the start. About 80% of your cities need to be economical cities, and the other 20% need to be Military cities. If you can spare a city to make wonders, go for it, but it's totally not necessary until you get the religios wonders (AP, UoS, SM, etc.) Also War Weariness is civilization related, so if you are at war with 2 civs and kill or make peace with 1, all that WW is gone. You want to make your wars quick and fast.

off topic question. Is there a way to play this map but remove the espionage slider and vassal states? I usually unclick these options.

yanner39,

Custom Scenario. Choose the map you want, choose the civilization you want, then you can change the custom options like normal.

huh?

Easy - play a European civ and take over Europe quickly. With five capitol locations, and at least seven or eight other great locations (I included Athens here), you can become a huge power very early on. All of the strategic resources are in mainland Europe or Northern Africa. At least half of the luxury resources are there too. Once you control Europe, a few troops in Turkey and along the Russian front can protect the core. After Astonomy, a few startegically located ships can protect the coasts (since the AI sucks at the naval aspect of the game).

Hard - The game is tough for the western hemisphere civs. Lots of ground to occupy seems like a good things, but it can cripple your economy/research. Plus, you don't have the trading partners like the rest of the world has. If you manage your empire well, you can become a late game powerhouse as all of your cities seem to mature at the same time.

Also, some civs like Mongols and Mansa Musa (civ?) don't have the greatest starting locations.

Medium - Everyone else. You have some room to move around and expand. You have most of the resources, but not the motherlode that is Europe. Some of the other strats for Russia, Egypt, Persia, etc. all involve getting into Europe as soon as possible.

-------------------------------------------------------------

Since the map is so huge, and there will be some domination aspect at some point, effective use of your Forbidden Palace, Versailles, and colonies/vassals, is very important to help your economy.

Just play as the Incans, their capital is amazing and just quechua-rush everyone on your continent, then you win with so much land!

I have only played a few earth maps, but isn't there a mountain near Panama blocking North America from South America? If so, by the time the Incans get Galleys crazy Monty likely has Jags. Again I have played earth only a few times.

The mountain in Panama doesn't matter, you can still Quechua-rush all of South America.

;) :crazyeye:  ;) :nono: :mischief:

Also, your sarcasm detector needs to be repaired.

I've won easy diplomation wins with every european civ on this map (take over europe early, tech to a big lead, fight a land war in asia  ) and every asian civ (take over China/India, tech to a big lead, send your armies east). With the new world civs, I've won easy space race victories (take over your hemispheric opponents, settle south america with state property workshops/watermills everywhere, trade to parity when meeting the old world, sprint ahead with all that great land). This is by far the easiest map out there, and you should be able to play 1-2 levels above your usual without any problem. Learn to love teh state property civic. :)

I wonder how hard it will be to play as Roosevelt on deity.

Back in the spring there was a discussion about modifying the Earth 18 map (http://forums.civfanatics.com/showthread.php?t=317067), which might be of interest. There were a few mods I was going to make to the modded map, but I haven't got around to it yet.

Even though they don't start with extra stuff, it would still be .

I modified one of those maps so I could play with an AI Joao II instead of an AI Isabella to create some form of super-intercontinental-power

At the time though I wasn't feeling up to playing it so I just deleted it

If you wish I could re-make it and send it to you and you could tell me how much more different it'd be compared to with Isabella :goodjob:
