 Why can we only play Civ 3 from a single user account (which has to be an administrator account) on WXP? This is inconvenient as I don't want my kids in my account and don't want to make them administrators. Is there a workround? Thanks if you can help!

From readme file

Under Windows XP, you need to restart the game if you switch users accounts.

I don't know XP and never wants to see it, but you might want to look at the security settings on the Civ3 folder. You might need to give other users rights to this folder.

I installed my game under my administrative account, added a user without administrative rights and the game runs fine under that account. Do not know why it doesnot work in your situation. :(

You might try going to C:\Documents and Settings\All Users\Start Menu\Programs and copy the shortcut from your start menu. If you get some weird message or it just doesn't work, you could also try temporarily making the other account(s) admin and reinstall the program under their account. I am trying to figure out the whole limited account thing myself. I have all accounts on admin right now but for security, I want to change that.

Thanks to all for your help. Dorkus, you're promoted to deity! You put me on the right track. Open the account you want Civ to run in and explore the Civ folder. Create a shortcut to the exe file on that desktop. Start the game with shortcut. Works a treat.

I'm glad it worked! Wasn't sure it would since I am new to XP AND Civ III.
