taillesskangaru Aug 08, 2009, 06:15 AM I've decided to restart this Turkish AAR again. I've felt that the old game (http://forums.civfanatics.com/showthread.php?t=317696) went wrong from the start, and I didn't have clear view then of how I would like to see the game turn out, or how I would write the AAR. I hope to be able to improve with a new game, and a new thread.
I kept the minister positions on the Porte the same from the last AAR. Of course if anyone wants to change or resign from their position then they can.

"What men call sovereignty is a worldly strife and constant war"
- Suleiman the Magnificent

Mustafa Kemal, founder of the Turkish Republic
It came to him in a series of dreams, visions. Memories from his childhood blurred into scenes of battles, bloody, brutal, desperate. Amid the sounds of the clash of iron and the boom of cannons were voices, human voices. They yelled out contradictory terms - despotism, democracy; tradition, modernity; weakness, strength; stagnation, progress; war, peace; freedom, slavery; submission, defiance.
Suddenly he was back at Gallipoli, at that scene of slaughter. Then he saw himself at Megiddo, leading his troops - outnumbered, outgunned - against the Allied forces in the Levantine deserts. The scene shifts, to battlefields of eras long gone - Kosovo, Constantinople, Varna, Belgrade, Chaldiran, Aleppo, Mohacs, Rhodes, Mohacs, Prevaza, Malta, Vienna, Lepanto.
Lastly he saw modern Izmir, in flames. The red flag with the white star and crescent flew triumphantly above the ruins of the city as the Greek invasion force sailed away.
And he was back in Ankara. From here, he noticed that, somehow, he had a clear view of the entire country. The rapid change and industrialization of his country of the past 12 years flashed before him. He saw the growth of numerous modern factories, schools, hospitals, harbors, farms. He saw the countryside rich with grain, saw the cities transform from slums and rubble to glittering bustling metropolises. He noticed there was a large tree growing in the middle of the capital city. It grew bigger, taller, its foliage spreading ever outward, towards and beyond the horizon. Suddenly, a strong wind blew, and the leaves flew outwards, beyond the horizon, beyond Turkey's borders, like little arrows...

Zack Aug 08, 2009, 12:54 PM Could I sign up to be Armaments Minister?
Serutan Aug 09, 2009, 02:29 PM I had kind hoped you would keep going with the last game - it was looking to be interesting.
Oh well, so it goes. I'll take Minister of Intelligence - this lot is likely to be in need of some. :mischief:
Maniacal Aug 09, 2009, 03:23 PM We need to modernise everything.
Kan' Sharuminar Aug 09, 2009, 03:28 PM I shall of course continue my job as Chief of Staff, and grumble about every decision that is made I don't agree with.
aronnax Aug 09, 2009, 11:14 PM Put me up for head of intelligence.
Call me M....
for Mustafa.
Right... Firstly I suggest we do the usual, flush out all the spies in our country and send two million to Greece.
Let me check my folders on how many soldiers those olive drinking rebels have....
IronMan2055 Aug 15, 2009, 01:12 PM You know, I hear you can get Carriers cheap this time of year. =P
Rule the seas rule the world.
taillesskangaru Aug 26, 2009, 03:11 AM Sorry for the delay in update. I'll try to update this weekend.
Spidernova Aug 26, 2009, 09:04 PM I just started playing hearts of iron, so Ill most likely cause more harm then good, but Ill appl for the post of Cheif of the air force.
Maniacal Aug 26, 2009, 11:43 PM I wouldn't worry too much about it Spidernova, I believe the Turkish "air force" is more a government funed equivelant ot what the British (or Americans anyways) call a 'flying club'. While I do not doubt the courage and determination of our airmen, the air 'service' is in need of much modernization, along with the rest of our armed forces and nation as a whole.
taillesskangaru Aug 27, 2009, 07:51 AM In the words of Ataturk, "the future is in the skies". However, our industry is currently too pathetic to build and maintain a large air force. Since we have so little resources at present, and not much more to come in the near future, we will need to plan carefully.
In terms of the Navy and Air Force, we can only afford single or, at best, dual specializations at the moment. What class or model should we be concentrating our efforts on?
Serutan Aug 27, 2009, 01:12 PM For the Air Force, TACS and tactical bomber doctrine.
Spidernova Aug 27, 2009, 05:22 PM I second the tactical bomber specilzation
PhroX Aug 28, 2009, 08:01 AM Sign me up for the position of...hmm...dunno really. Oh, I'll just be boring and say "another general" :p
As to the Airforce question, I say go for CAS. TAC's are more versatile, but CAS are cheap and very good at what they do - killing anything that moves. From my experience, if you've not got much in the way of armour/motorized/mech for encirclements (and I can't see us having them any time soon), CAS attacking retreating foes is arguably the best way to destroy units outright. If their range is a problem, then you can always throw up a couple of 99 runs of airfields (they don't cost much IC - 1 IIRC).
Maniacal Aug 28, 2009, 11:58 AM I prefer tactical bombers over CAS myself, CAS have too short of a range for far too long and I forget to continue to move up my planes, heck I found a bomber unit still circling western Russia a year later.
