Bushido means literally "military-knight-way." Bushido was as much a way of life and death for the samurai as it was a code of ethics. Words such as justice, courage, benevolence, respect, honesty, loyalty, and honor were more than ideals, they dictated the samurai's every action. Is it possible to survive and even thrive while living according to this ancient code of Chivalry? We shall see. We shall see.
Dominix Sep 29, 2002, 09:04 PM Awesome report as usual!! :D:D:D
Phillip_martin Sep 29, 2002, 09:13 PM Another fine write up Zachriel:goodjob:
This is one of the highlights of each GOTM.
From a start strategy your move north paid off. The Settler and warrior from the goody huts sped you forward.
Mad_Scott and to a lesser extent myself, had a horrible time with that initial hut:cry:
Keep up the good work.
col Sep 30, 2002, 02:22 AM As ever, a great account - and like Phil I think this is one of the highlights of GOTM.
You've become an institution! ;)

I consider my first move the most important of the game, a move available to anyone who carefully observed the position. If I hadn't seen greener pastures when I moved my worker, I would have settled where I was and mined(!) the wheat fields.
The Settler and warrior from the goody huts sped you forward.
Sorry about my luck. ;) My catapults were pretty lucky on the initial attack on Beijing, too. They both hit!
Sullla Oct 01, 2002, 06:34 AM Wonderfully done as usual! :goodjob: Is there any chance we can convince you to try some of the Realms Beyond Epics now that you've won each victory type in the GOTM?
Overlag Oct 01, 2002, 08:06 AM another great account of your gaming ability :) :goodjob:

An institution? Cool! Kinda like a prison or an insane asylum.
Zachriel Oct 17, 2002, 06:01 PM I was cleaning out the Archives and ran across a few web pages that didn't make the cut for Bushido, Way of the Samurai. These documents buried deep in the Archives show that Tokugawa's strategy wasn't as good as his version of history would lead us to believe!
Here is a poorly planned Galley Battle that split the Japanese Empire and nearly led to disaster.

An example of Tokugawa's poor planning during the settlement of the Eastern Lands Across the Sea.

Finally, despite Tokugawa's efforts to hide the fact, he was rated only second best by Pliny.

Zachriel Oct 21, 2002, 04:45 PM A lot of players wrote that this move looked risky. But it wasn't, really. You don't get Barbarians from huts unless you have at least one military unit.

http://www.zachriel.com/gotm11/bc4000-Look.htm
Barbarians:
--Player must not have Expansionist trait.
--There must not be a city within a 1-tile radius.
--The player must have at least 1 city.
--The player must have at least 1 military unit.
--The unit popping the hut must not have the "All Terrain As Roads" ability.
(from Apolyton)
Addendum: When I played this I wasn't sure the exact rule. I just "knew" that I wouldn't normally expect Barbarians so soon. I thought it might be related to the founding of the town, so I popped the hut first, then founded Kyoto.
:egypt:
More on this soon, in Shaka's Fist, GOTM12.
cracker Oct 21, 2002, 07:21 PM I was personally hoping for "Shaka, when the walls fell" ;)

I would use it, except it translates as "failure" or "catastrophe" in the original Tamarian mythology.
