View Full Version : Game crashed when loading a mod (Any mod).
Yoadm Aug 23, 2009, 01:52 PM Hey guys,
I've been playing FFH2 for the last 2 months, but got a bit tired of it and was hoping to start a long-winded Giant Earth Map game. When trying to load that mod (and subsequently, any other mod), the game seemed to crash for no reason. Does/did anyone else experience this problem, and what might one do to remidy that?
Thank's alot!
JujuLautre Aug 23, 2009, 08:30 PM Wrong forum. This is for modpacks.
Yoadm Aug 24, 2009, 03:38 AM Ahh, which subforum should I post it in?

Some moderator has been so nice and moved it over to here.
Thanks to Mr. X :).
For the crashes:
Did you patch to 3.19, and do you have the 3.19 versions of the mods?

Best thing i found out to do is when playing, only have the MOD your playing in the mod folder and NO other mod in there except the ones that Firaxis provided already, that way there will be no CONFLICT, cause there are alot of these mods that conflict with BtS and cause errors.:mischief:

This is not true. Also many mods will not work unless installed in the BtS mod folder. FFH is one of those mods, you must install it in the mods folder, though it uses an automatic installer anyway and does that for you, so no real issue there. The issues you must have experienced strategyonly would be caused by custom assets. Mods in seperate folders will not conflict with each other, unless they are told to do so by their ini file, or something similar caused by python, ie the modname file in BUG using mods. Either way, that's an issue with that particular mod if you are experiencing it, and your advise is simply not good.

Your problem is that you are using mods of a different version. My guess is that you updated to 3.19, since it's a new patch, and you are using an old version of FFH which is for 3.17 and will crash when attempting to load from a 3.19 BtS version. Anyway to fix your problem make sure you are patched to 3.19 for BtS, and then download and install the latest version of FFH.

Oh contrair, thx for the advise you soundly give.

Well, I didn't succeed in patching 3.19 because the comp wrote its 'corrupted', and indeed, the Giant Earth Map was for patch 3.19 (last version of 2 weeks ago), but when I tried loading older mods, the same problem occured. Though it might be because those mods are older than the 3.18 patch I currently have... not sure..

Well, its the other way around, sorta.. Ive been playing FFH and wanted to play a normal non FFH GIant Earth Map mod. So I downloaded the latest GEM (probably 3.19), and it crashed. Then I tried DL'ing the 3.19 patch and the comp said its 'corrupted'..
Come to think of it, is there a Giant Earth Map mod which isnt a mod, but simply a map without the mods? that might make it easyer to run.
phungus420 Aug 25, 2009, 08:52 AM If this is the case then GEM isn't compatible with FFH. If I recall correctly GEM is SDK and python based, so you'd need to merge the code, which isn't easy, but doable if you're willing and able to put in the time. Personally though it's alot of work, my first delvings into python and SDK coding took quite a bit since I had no prior knowledge; as in it took hours and lots of posts asking about coding from real programmers, but people here are very helpful and I've been able to code everything I've needed so far, just takes alot of work and googling and asking questions. If I was trying to do something simple like this I'd just ask one of the FFH devs to try to merge it for me. I wouldn't be surprised if someone already has done so.

Oh, sorry mate, I misrepresented the issue. I didn't want t play a GEM map in FFH, I just wanted to play a GEM, without FFH. Just one big map on a normal Civ-IV-BTS setting..
The_J Aug 25, 2009, 06:11 PM If the computer says, the patch is corrupted, then something was wrong with the download.
Try re-downloading or download it from another website.

Well, I tried to do just that, entered the installation, pressed install, then nothing happened. Inside Civ-IV, it still writes Patch 3.17 and no matter how many times I try installing, it wont change ;(
Basically, once I press 'install' in the 3.19 patch, nothing happens. Anyone know why and how I can fix that?
The_J Aug 26, 2009, 04:47 PM Does the patch process appear in the taskmanager?

There was no patch process. The moment I opened the patch and got to 'install', it simply dissapeared...

Just XP.
The_J Aug 30, 2009, 05:51 PM Sorry, no more idea :dunno:.
Last option is the official support :(.

Last option is the official support :(.Well, before that, I'd try a good old-fashioned re-install of Civ4 and BtS, followed by another attempt to patch it to 3.19.
Cheers, LT.

Yeah. Based on similar issues people have experienced I think your problem lies in the fact the patch partially installed, but didn't fully update. The patch refuses to run if it detects that BtS has been updated for some reason, so the partial install may be blocking the patch from working. Others have solved this by doing a complete reinstall of BtS, at least I've seen this problem reported and solved this way before in the Tech Support forums.

Do you have the instructions for a complete re-install?

Ill try that, thank's.. Problem is I've lost the vanilla version of CIV, and only have the BTS disk, thus if I uninstall it im in a heckload of trouble.

Correct, you MUST have the vanilla version otherwise it will not work. So DO NOT uninstall, unless you have all Civ4 disks.

Ahh, crap
Seems Im out of options.. Unless: Do you know of any Giant Earth maps I can download for 3.17? Or will that not work aswell?
