During the first few moments of my life, of which I remember surprisingly well, I have a very clear picture of my family: my father standing over me and asking whether I'm a boy or a girl and my mother, looking very much like a thigh....

Oddly enough I soon lost my sense of self awareness and my next memory came nearly a year later.

http://i592.photobucket.com/albums/tt9/Captain23222/Fallout32009-08-2514-51-26-93.jpg

In his attempts to test my walking ability my dad had me walk across the room to him, of course being the show off I am I decided to one up him

http://i592.photobucket.com/albums/tt9/Captain23222/Fallout32009-08-2514-52-39-97.jpg

Oddly unsurprised at a child who had previously been unable to walk at all suddenly walking over to his bed and jumping onto it, my father continued to insist that I walk to him in order to do it right.

http://i592.photobucket.com/albums/tt9/Captain23222/Fallout32009-08-2514-53-39-67.jpg

Of course he soon betrayed me and closed me in my playpen, however being the forgetful scientist type he forgot to lock me in and I was able to easily escape and look around through my toy box.

http://i592.photobucket.com/albums/tt9/Captain23222/Fallout32009-08-2514-55-04-36.jpg
Of course this was on the bestselling children's book list, narrowly beating out "You're Average, prepare yourself for a life of menial labour"

http://i592.photobucket.com/albums/tt9/Captain23222/Fallout32009-08-2514-55-54-50.jpg

OOC: I gave myself horrible charisma so I wouldn't get any discounts when the time comes to buy or sell items, hopefully keeping myself from becoming incredibly rich in this post nuclear world until at least a decent length into the game

http://i592.photobucket.com/albums/tt9/Captain23222/Fallout32009-08-2514-56-36-33.jpg

Dad comes back and points out the thighs favourite bible passage and then asks me to follow him, taking my newly acquired walking abilities for granted.

Then for the next nine years..... I forget what happened, but I remember I had a birthday!

http://i592.photobucket.com/albums/tt9/Captain23222/Fallout32009-08-2514-57-23-31.jpg

yeah.... I'm begining to think I have a memory problem

I discovered you could use the console to unlock the doors and wander out into the hallway, then since it is actually in the same map as where you are when you are awoken by Amata and the alarms are going off, although there are no NPCs or roaches. Anyways, if you open the bathroom door well there's nothing in there so you walk through, fall into the nothingness and then are teleported into a hallway of said later area. Although that is as far as you can go as a baby and there is no way back...

I claim credit in part for helping Captain continue this sooner.

I'll be following this thread, I dont have Fallout 3. Yet interested in buying it someday :).

I sense that "You're special" Book is gonna pop up somewhere outside this thread. Eather by itself or as a demotivational poster.

Of course I'm given a pipboy as a birthday present, since its extremely useful to keep tabs on your limb damage when in the safety of the vault.

http://i592.photobucket.com/albums/tt9/Captain23222/Fallout32009-08-2521-14-46-36.jpg

of course I'm soon greeted by Amata rubbing my low perception score in my face and offering me the gift of a Grognak the Barbarian comic, however the bloody thing fell apart after one reading so I suspect she simply found the thing laying around and decided it would make a good token offering.

Of course after that the party just goes downhill:

and Dad implies that nobody would care if I left the party....

I think this could be my worst birthday ever, however I'm unsure as I don't remember any others. Shunned and/or creeped out, I go to speak with Jonas.

@Stevie, that seems to happen to a lot of people, I guess its good to know that I'm not the only one who goes off to buy games after reading the AARs :p

@Everyone, Of course now I continue my frequent updating for the sake of actually seeing if the DLC is working, whitch I can only find out by advancing in the game

My next memory occurs six years later.... they're begining to tighten up at least so hopefully soon I'll be able to remember day to day life.

This of course is the downside to being related to the vault's doctor, you'll find yourself constantly subjected to tests, doubts and claims that "Lupus doesn't work that way" whenever you claim to be sick before a test.

Good going Cap, very amusing. :D

It was around this point that I started to get bored of Fallout 3... after half an hours play you want to be out in the wastes capping mutants, not taking some bleeding exam. An exam! In a videogame! Cats and dogs living together, mass hysteria!

So yeah I didn't really get very far with FO, made it to Megaton, poked around a bit and then quit, partly, I have to admit, because I couldn't buy that the wasteland didn't have any vegetation after two centuries of not-being-nuked.

Hence I will follow Neville's travels with extra interest, as unlike the Oblivion AAR, this is mostly gonna be new and unkown.

"What do you mean, My dad is "gone"?"
"He's left the vault! I don't know how, but he's gone, and my father... he's kind of gone crazy."
" I've never seen you so scared Amata, what happened?"
"Its Jonas... They killed him! my father's men. they took him, and... Oh my God you have to leave, now!"

Well she didn't need to tell me to get out again, as far as I'm concerned running away becomes manditory upon first bloodshed. Amata gave me her fathers pistol and I happily accepted it, not only am I now armed but he father isn't.

As I attempt to sneak out, I accidentally alert a guard

By "freeze" do you mean that you have to kill the game in Task Manager? I had a problem like that, and I got around it by playing the game in windowed mode.

Also Captain, I found out how you can get the free camera movement. Hit the "~" key which will bring up a console. From there you can type in "tfc - toggle free camera; lets you move around the camera at will. To take pictures of your character, make sure you go into third person mode first."

After climbing down from the vault entrance and heading towards.... well.... nothing really, I just sort of headed the route I was facing. I really have no destination or even a purpose for existing anymore now that I've been banished from my home.

A sign pointed me towards a place called megaton, I certainly hoped that I could find some answers or even a purpose there.

http://i592.photobucket.com/albums/tt9/Captain23222/Fallout32009-08-2723-08-43-96.jpg

Oh lovely, I get to go inside the giant pile of rubble

I was greeted at the entrance by a sheriff of some kind, I had to be very careful as these outsiders can often be dangerous without provocation

http://i592.photobucket.com/albums/tt9/Captain23222/Fallout32009-08-2723-12-27-98.jpg

Of course he's likely just waiting for me to lower my guard, I went to the local supply stand in the rubble city and spoke to the owner

http://i592.photobucket.com/albums/tt9/Captain23222/Fallout32009-08-2723-14-00-42.jpg

You heard about me when I've only been in town long enough for a single conversation? and I didn't mention to Lucas that I came from a vault....

I sense a conspiracy most foul indeed, It seems possible that Moria here has forcably kidnapped my father! I shall do whatever it takes to overthrow her evil empire, free my father and clear our names with the overseer!

I ask the vile Empress what she wants, of course keeping the conversation purely to subtext so her Imperial guardsman in the corner doesn't see fit to blow me away.

http://i592.photobucket.com/albums/tt9/Captain23222/Fallout32009-08-2723-15-28-44.jpg

She is apparently writing a book and requires help to finish it, I now understand her plan as she will get me to risk my own well being out of single minded concern of saving my fathers life.

I accept her task, buy a few supplies and set to work, I am but a pawn in this game Moria has crafted.

Helloooo Chil-dren. Its my day off so you know what that means? Update!

Upon getting my bullet ridden hindquarters out of the Super Duper mart I managed to return to megaton without incident, For some reason the raiders didn't seem to care about my theft or the death of their comrades once I had gone outside the door, surely they must know something I don't about the dangers lurking outside.

On my way back to my evil overlord Moria, I came across this helpless little fellow, fascinated by the shimmering and dancing water as it freely flows from the pipe. I'd fix it but I just cannot allow myself to break him from the state of Nirvana he must be in.

Deciding that I'm a man of honour and no matter what beef I may have with the despot of Megaton the people do not deserve to suffer for it. I go and inform the Sheriff as he seems like a good man that I can trust to do the right thing.

Wasteland Justice of course the nickname I've given my mean right hook. *Blows on fingernails*

Lucas and I barge into the saloon, ready to face off against this dangerous fiend.

Umm... I think I'm picking up the wrong conversation, I'll try to focus on Simms and Burke

I lock onto Burke with my 10mm pistol, sadly being the second fastest draw in the room has its downfalls and Simms goes down. Three shots peg Burke in the side of the head but he manages to stay standing and turns his pistol on me.

http://i592.photobucket.com/albums/tt9/Captain23222/Fallout32009-09-1708-36-20-40.jpg

Sadly even attempting to hide behind a sheet, A bullet to the shoulder teaches me the problem with my plan.

I force Burke to take cover and run upstairs, I contemplate pulling out one of my grenades and simply ending the fight, however with the possibility of bar patrons being added to the casualty list I decide I need to take another tactic.

Taking a few steps back and grabbing a pool cue I found laying around, I run full speed in Burkes direction and throw myself over the railing

First time around I did pretty much the same thing, though I followed it up with "ah well, no point letting a good hat and jacket go to waste" and nabbed Simm's stuff.

I go swanning out the door and nonchalantly wander down the street, only to bump into his kid...whilst I'm wearing his dad's clothes.

I felt a teeny bit guilty after that.

Dont forget your very own Megaton House. Useful for storing weapons and apparel. You don't get any caps if you disarm the bomb without asking Simms, just a lot of Karma (and the Megaton House).

Usualy, if I have a high enough repair skills or barely enough but use the Vault 101 Utility Jumpsuit (+5 Repair, +5 Lockpick) to get that repair bonus. Offer the man in the Water filtration plant help fixing the leaks. He pays 200 caps.

On my way to plant the device in the Mirelurk nest I suddenly notice something running at me, its shape is that of a very small human, maybe even a dwarf

http://i592.photobucket.com/albums/tt9/Captain23222/Fallout32009-09-1821-47-30-98.jpg

Nah its most likely a human. Thankfully I've listened to Three Dog's (The Resident DJ) warnings of these wasteland people.

I fire a warning shot over his head in hopes of scaring him off.

http://i592.photobucket.com/albums/tt9/Captain23222/Fallout32009-09-1821-47-47-72.jpg

http://i592.photobucket.com/albums/tt9/Captain23222/Fallout32009-09-1821-48-21-73.jpg

A look back behind me confirmed my deepest fear that I was indeed facing a determined foe.

However I could no longer entertain such heroic fantasies and had I sacrificed my life for hers, there was no way of knowing she could get away in time.

http://i592.photobucket.com/albums/tt9/Captain23222/Fallout32009-09-1821-50-14-84.jpg

Looking at my map I discover that I'm already closer to the Mirelurk nest than...wherever it is that the invincible kid wanted me to go, so naturally I'll finish my first job before heading out to help him.

http://i592.photobucket.com/albums/tt9/Captain23222/Fallout32009-09-2218-49-44-13.jpg

In fact the entrance is just across the bridge, so I head inside and begin looking for a clump of eggs to stick my listening device in

http://i592.photobucket.com/albums/tt9/Captain23222/Fallout32009-09-2218-51-03-63.jpg

Things go rather well on the way in, sneaking past the one Mirelurk that I notice and then jump off the catwalk onto a pile of eggs. I figure they're probably still good and stick the listening device in the yolk running across the floor. Of course things don't go quite so well and the extraction is... shall I say, painful.

I'll just sum up the experience as "Things were pinched that should never have been treated in such a way"

I walk out into the sunlight and run like hell away from the memorial in case those things decide to keep chasing me, eventually I find myself looking over Greyditch.

http://i592.photobucket.com/albums/tt9/Captain23222/Fallout32009-09-2218-55-11-68.jpg

However I quickly find myself destracted by my sudden lack of eyebrows, I take my Aka-47 off my shoulder and wait for the flames to clear. I must count myself as lucky since the flames barely missed me, had my foe used the flare gun I'd be quite enflamed.

http://i592.photobucket.com/albums/tt9/Captain23222/Fallout32009-09-2219-15-48-36.jpg

Really, I hate these things not so much because they're a walking flame thrower but largely because of the sound they make.

Skitter skitter skitter skitter, skitter skitter skitter. It sounds like someone rubbing a stalk of celery on a piece of sandpaper.

http://i592.photobucket.com/albums/tt9/Captain23222/Fallout32009-09-2219-16-17-22.jpg

http://i592.photobucket.com/albums/tt9/Captain23222/Fallout32009-09-2219-16-24-15.jpg

Long story short, This fellow needs me to clear a path to his computer terminal that's positioned next to the queen but is however unaccessible due to several royal guards that would kill anyone trying to reach her.

I'd normally run away from such a fight as the coward I am, however these things could spawn everywhere so I suppose I'd rather fight six very strong ants over millions of weak ones so I accept his offer and head off to shoot these things.

http://i592.photobucket.com/albums/tt9/Captain23222/Fallout32009-09-2318-59-15-70.jpg

Spotting a leg jutting out of the horrid darkness I begin running away, making sure that the ant follows me

http://i592.photobucket.com/albums/tt9/Captain23222/Fallout32009-09-2318-59-23-45.jpg

It takes nearly eight mines to down this thing, but it does in fact die.

http://i592.photobucket.com/albums/tt9/Captain23222/Fallout32009-09-2319-02-55-09.jpg

I look down the corridor to find two more ants skittering their way towards me, I pull out my sniper rifle (my only remaining source of ammo) and take aim.

http://i592.photobucket.com/albums/tt9/Captain23222/Fallout32009-09-2319-03-09-31.jpg

Surprisingly shooting the ants in their antennae causes them to go berserk and begin killing each other.

After watching those two douse each other with fire for nearly three minutes (They apparently are resistant to flames themselves) One dies and I sneak up on the other one who presumably forgot about a human in the nest and end its misery. I hear a giant sloshing noise in the other room and look around the corner.

Running as fast as I can out of the cave, I report my success to the scientist who congratulates me by shoving a needle in my arm.

Go back to the kid, talk to him again, then go back to megaton. You might need more ammo. You can also get the next quest from Empress Moira, then check out the pub and talk to the owner if you want to advance the main quest. Some of the most interesting areas are ones you simply stumble upon.

Too bad there aren't any giant mutated spiders in this game (that I know of) :/

Go back to the kid, tell him you'll find him a home in Rivet City. I suggest doing this when you get to the part where you have to research Rivet City's history (The owner of the hotel in Rivet City will serve as a guardian to the orphan child). You'll also end up picking up the Replicated Man quest if you wander in the science lab (Ill give you tips on how to get both Harkness's plasma rifle and the Wired Reflex perk when the time comes :))

Welcome to today's edition of What Would Liam Neeson Do?

Quite simple really. A family member is missing in the unknown, and as such Neville must devote all his strength to learning where he is. Find clues, track leads and search for your missing father!

(I agree with Serutan. I don't want to see Neville playing his story based on what other players have found to work out best, because I've already played that myself. Going to speak to the kid makes sense, and you were already doing quests for Moira so sticking to that if you're stuck sounds fine. It good reading :goodjob:)

It happened to me before, I encountered a lone Enclave trooper at random moments (usualy in the areas where the Enclave camp appears after they land at the Jefferson Memorial in the main quest, example: Neville's encounter with the Enclave trooper near Dukov's Place/Molerat lair)). The lone Enclave scout appears even before I head to the vault with Tranquility Lane. I've also encountered lone scout Enclave troopes with the Tesla Power Armor at mid level. I usualy finish the Aiding the Outcast quest to get the power armor training early (as well as the Chinese Stealth Suit to use to get the Vengeance in the Deathclaw Cave) so I can use the Enclave power armor and not have it be extra weight to carry around. IMO, using the glitch to get to the Citidel to get Power Armor training early in the game is a pain in the butt.

Boy, I should start my own Fallout AAR staring Samus as the Lone Wanderer :run:. When I get my desktop back from repairs.

You sure you completely uninstalled it before you tried reinstalling? FWIW I had some trouble uninstalling Oblivion on my machine, the uninstall process simply wouldn't do anything, so I ended up just deleting it manually (which probably left some debris from the install on the system). So it seems that Bethesda have previous when it comes to install/uninstall issues. I'd try googling the error or maybe checking out a dedicated FO board, it may be a common problem with a known solution.

The problem that I found was that there was already an installshield folder already. Renamed it and it installed normaly. Though I had to look in Program Files (x86) for it instead of the regular Program Files foulder the trouble shoot suggested (Due since I am on a 64bit OS).

I had to manually remove Oblivion and manually delete the registry keys, the problem was that at the end of the Oblivion install, it kind of pauses and looks like it's done but just didn't close, so I (and many others) clicked the X button to close the window, apparently that will cause the game to cease working months later (or a couple of YEARS later) and be hard to uninstall. Luckily if you wait a couple of minutes the installer will finish and the problem won't happen, so I shouldn't ever have the problem again.

Returning to megaton and discovering that the water show may indeed outlast the simpsons in terms of fan base support while waiting for Moira to open up her shop. I decide that the Church of Atom may as well give up now as its water is stagnant and the pipes water dances, even a nuke doesn't make enough of a difference.

Selling my worldy goods, including the enclave armour I've come across, I notice that I'm running horribly low on funds. Even just trying to get a few stimpaks causes my profit margin to shrink, die and then recede.

I try to give Moria my mole rat research but discover I've only killed the bare minimum. If theres one thing that can be said about the Ryan family its that we do things to completion, unless theres a demon, large dog, Scorpion, Robot or if theres a big guy threatening you, not just any big guy though... one with a 2x4.... with a nail in it.

On my way back to the Mole rat area I find something rather interesting occuring.

http://i592.photobucket.com/albums/tt9/Captain23222/Fallout32009-10-1608-27-01-33.jpg

I hear a lazer being fired and raise my own in anticipation, moving slowly and searching the area from behind a tree I notice a mirelurk... I should really report this back to Moria as if they've become capable of building and firing lazers I'd qualify that as some kind of sentience.

http://i592.photobucket.com/albums/tt9/Captain23222/Fallout32009-10-1608-27-04-76.jpg

However upon further inspection I discover that the Mirelurk is not actually holding the lazer rifle, my heart sinks a little and I continue my search for the source, The mirelurk finds it for me, an enclave soldier who had been apparently shooting at it and not me.

The Mirelurk goes a little strange and decides that I'm a threat it to its championship and comes after the announcer in an incident that brings back bitter memories of the great Muhammed Ali massacre of 1964 in whitch a referee, cameraman and lighting technician were mercilessly throttled.

Though in my games, I hold on to the Enclave armor and head right to Bailey's Crossroads to start Ading the Outcast to get the power armor training while still a low level character :D.

Also, If I am at the part in the Survivor Guide with the mole rat repellent and I go to the DLC parts (The Pitt, Operation: Anchorage, & Mothership Zeta) I still have the repellent stick since it's still flagged as a quest item and not taken away from me by the Pitt Raiders and Aliens .

Kan just reminded me, I'm going to put this on hiatus for a temporary period... I find myself bombarded constantly by things I have to do, read or play and haven't really gotten around to updating in a little while, Ciaphas isn't going to read himself!

Anyway with L4d2 coming out pretty soon followed by a flurry of game releases I don't see much time for poor fallout until that well dries up because I personally don't believe I'm good enough at writing to get away with "well I'll just dash that off and then get back to Darkest of Days... wait whats this? they just released DLC for Ultimate Alliance 2?
