I'm not european but I can assure you that at least 50% of the french tourist we have in Québec are looking for Indians and bears in the middle of Montréal! Seriously, at least the french people I've talked too, they seemed to think that we live in cabins in woods and have to fight animals on our way to work. ;)

The same as Americans, only it's harder to take because, well, the Europeans are educated and they still don't have a clue.

I have lots of canadian relatives - from the Maritimes to Vancouver - and they are all warm hearted generous folk.

Would love to be able to live and work in Van - must be one of the best cities in the world to live in.

This reminds me of a story my friend told me, while coming home from a trip in Florida the a person who worked at the airport asked where they where going and they replied they where going home to Ottawa, she stared at them and said "What is an Ahh--to-wa?" This not only pathetic but actually very frustrating people don't know where Canada's capital is...oh and Europeans and tourist in General (especially Japanese ones) know almost nothing about Canada and must rely on hillariously stupid stereotypes

I think of her as a hybrid of the US and UK, with a bit of France thrown in in Quebec of course. Close to us in that she shares our Queen, is partly British and is host to many of our relatives, but also removed due to her relationshop with the USA.

However, we do also tend to mistake them for Americans when they are over here due to our being unable to distinguish the accent. I apologise profusely on behalf of my 60 million fellow subjects. ;)

Be yourselves...Same with football, baseball, and hockey. Although Canada does not really have enough enthusiastic fans to have their own major leagues that could compete with the NBA, NFL, NHL, and MLB.

And I'm not European so I guess I don't count in this discussion, but Homer Simpson sums it up pretty well for me: (when he hears that they're going on vacation to Canada) "Why should I leave America to go see America Jr.?"

Hey! We Friggin ' invented most of this sport and we LOVE hockey! So much so the Queen herself will drop the puck on Tonights game of Vancouver vs. San Jose! REMEMBER YANKEEE WE WON BOTH MEN'S AND WOMEN'S GOLD MEDALS IN HOCKEY! In Canada there is NOTHING more important than hockey!!!....and that would the most distrubing aspect of living in this country, but I love it!

So, I must assume that Canadian hockey's major league compete with the one from the US. Right?

What I meant was that if Canada formed their own major league in any sport, even hockey, do you really think they would make as much money and have as good box office sales as the U.S. major leagues? And how many teams could they have? Unlike Portuguese, I think the Canadians should not be themselves in major league sports; IMO it would be wiser to stay with the American leagues.

FYI most NHL players are Canadian (95% 30 years ago, about 65% now).

So, why did they emigrate?!?

Because you are "little America"!

That's your curse.
And only you, Canadians, can do something to prevent that...

That every canadians are born with a pair of skates on their feets. That the only famous person they have are famous for his icehockey skills. Yeah well what else would he be famous for? He's got freak'in skates on his feets. Not like he can be a drug runner or something else that would demand fast movement.

Yeah he can't possible be a drug runner. If so he would be busted before he takes one skate. A drug runner with skates probably attracts alot of attention.

Ohhh one more thing before I stop talk drivel, that person who are famous for his ice-hockey performance is Wayne Gretzkey.

Actually it was originally Canadian, but the Americans realized the superiority of our sport and bought most of it out.

What do Europeans think of Canadians?

My (as a Brit) mental image:

(1) Civilised:

Achieved independence and unity without any wars.
Treat their natives better than most. Smart mounties.
Quite perplexed at how the english and french speakers
get along; considering natural order is 100 year wars.

(2) Loyal:

Helped Britain out against rampant germanics etc.

(3) Stretched out:

Along border with US.

(4) Wearing Pullovers and Fleeces:

Must Be Cold Up There

Ok, let's see...good hockey players (hockey is really big over here too you know).

Finishes every sentece with "eh" :D

Seems to be online a lot. Damn near the whole population must be connected to the internet since everywhere you go on the net, you can bet that that site is filled with cannucks.

Seems to have an inferiority complex regarding their "big brother" U.S.A.

Yep, that's about all I could think of. Oh, and let's not forget "I'm a luberjack and I'm okay, I sleep all night and I work all day" :D :D

Because you are "little America"!

Interesting thoughts, Portuguese. :vomit:

That is like saying Portugal is "Little Spain". Not funny.

Ukraine was actually called "Little Russia" for a good chunk of modern history. No nation needs that from anyone.

The Canadians are a strong, seperate culture that happens to be related to ours. As a matter of fact, their is little simularity between Ontarians and Texans. Our languages are not even mutually intelligible. And we are heading in different directions. In a hundred years we'll be very different. I imagine Canada will align with Europe more closely. Or become an utter backwater. The US, epecially the South, will be assimilated into Latin American (the 'Latin' will probably be dropped) due to massive immigration and the enormous fertility rates of existing Hispanic Americans. But the Canucks are right, Canada and the US are natural enemies. Their cultural base of Anglocanada is largely decended from United Empire Loyalists who fled the rebel colonies (a much, much larger number than generally imagined). But dispite this we know to cooperate when it is in our mutual interest. Unlike Old Worlders. :ack:

I was quoting someone who quote Homer Simpson...

And yes, it is not funny. The idea was not to be funny in that post, as far as I remember...

I said before I understand that kind of feeling because of Spain.
Portugal is seen for many as "little Spain". Not funny at all!!!

The point is: I understand you more than you can think I do!

That's why I think Portugal and Canada are someway related here...

Oh, and if I in some aspect hurt your feelings, then Sorry. That was not the purpose I can assure you.

In fact, the idea was to awake you and make you move and try to get off US shadow: You are independent, show that to the world!

Hope to be understood this time. Your "partner", Richard Magellan

I tend to think of Canadiens as people about the same as Americans exceopt less arrogant, and, from what I hear on the news (and Pravda) smarter. Canadien hockey has soviet stars. Mogilny-toronto, Yashin-used to be Ottawa, few others.

Americans dont take this personally. U guys are still really good people. Im just saying from what I heard, Americans are still upgrading their education system. That, and my parents keep telling me that in 7th grade im learning what they learned in 5th. Im saying the education thing as an average. In my school, 50 out of bout 700 7th graders are in AC. Im 1 of them. this is humor section anyway. No offense.
