Befor or during a time in which you are conquering tons of land (like if you're Germany) build up one garrison unit for each territory you will control. If you don't, partisans will overthrow your whole nation, given enough time

Things you would expect to be detrimental to an attack, such as forest, bad weather, rivers, etc. is.

And the reverse is true, attacking from many directions, effective leaders, air support, etc. all helping.

Try to keep the number of divisions under each general workable for that general.
Major General-1
Lt. General-3
General-9
Field Marshal-12

Promote them if need be.

Or even better, if you have enough generals, try to keep your armies to a small number of divisions each, say 3.

Cavalry, except in one instance I can think of is useless.

Keep carrier and BB fleets separate.

Try to maximize IC and other things from your ministers.

The Convoy system can jumble itself up to hell, micro manage or keep an eye on it.

Some random advice for now.

The best use for cavalry I've found is filling holes/weak points in the front line quickly and putting down partisan revolts (building a garrison for each region you capture is rediculously expensive and in the case of russia not worth it).

I find the garrison's more effective as they also combat overloaded transport capacity...

The use I've found for cavalry is if you have them to start, have a weak ic, and want a fast war soon.

Turkey as an example.

Also, they're good for the gamey exploit of quickly taking out the USA in the beginning, you can probably conquer the entire mainland by 1938.

You don't need one for each province. A Garrison division with MP brigade attachment also exert influence over adjacent provinces.

Playing democratic countries partisans are more manageable. With dictatorships like Germany and the USSR partisans will be a problem and can kill your TC. Note that some territories (like Africa) don't have partisans when conquered.

Trust me, the tutorial is nearly worthless since it barely gives you any practical experience, its mostly stuff that you could easily find in the manual, which is a much better source of information, but rather overwhelming with beginners.

Paradox needs to make better tutorials, especially for combat and supply, which are touched on by the tutorials but never explained in the necessary detail.

Here (http://forum.paradoxplaza.com/forum/showthread.php?t=378841) is the definitive step by step AAR on how to play HOI 2. Could be considered the HOI2 for Dummies.
