AVN Oct 03, 2002, 01:16 PM I know I'm a little bit brutal here with this invitation, but I like to play a game against A_Bashkuev.
Hope you will accept this invitation.
My first move.

I can understand, but Smash is a very good player.
Against players of a lower level, you can try it

AVN Oct 03, 2002, 02:21 PM Sorry Alex but I'm a little bit confused about your last move.
6... Nb4 doesn't give check.
Before this game becomes a mess I like to know what your intention is 6... Nb4 or 6 ...Bb4+
A_Bashkuev Oct 03, 2002, 02:33 PM Oh, excuse me! Bb4+ of course! (But if you like, I can make 6. ... Nb4 anyway - it is not relevant yet.)

I agree the game isn't going well for me.
I accept there are grandmasters and there are amateur players like me.
But the grandmasters can only exist because there are amateurs ...
A_Bashkuev Oct 07, 2002, 03:11 PM 21. Qb2 Nxc4
if 22. Nxc4 then 22. .. b6
I'm not Grandmaster - I just had proper tutoring in Moscow Palace of Pioneers when I was pretty young :). Harsh tutoring, good memory as result - it helps ;)

AFAIK only very talented children were allowed in the Palace of Pioneers. So you have at least some basic knowledge of the game :)
But if I interprete your post correct it means you have played (or seen) this variation (=line of play) before.

My father was rather gifted chessplayer (I began to beat him in his very old years - after 50) & he was stable beaten by my grandfather in his youth. I can't prove my grandfather skill conclusively, - he was more then 60 years older then me - then in my 12-years age I could beat him 3 times from 5, but it's rather good result for 75-years oldster.
Then I was recommended to mister Judovich (my first chess tutor) in my 7-years by my father personally. My father don't want to make me chess-player< but he was taught by my grandfather that - before Revolution children trained their memory by Cathehysis lessons, but this course is absent now - then it is necessary to train my memory by any other method. Chess is good enough. That is my story.
No, I didn't see the same position earlier, but it isn't necessary.
I've get very general understanding - how I must realize my "Quality" edge. (I was taught ;) by very skillful teachers.) EDITED: I mean Rook vs Knight "Quality" edge.

28. any of three possible King move – no difference, - suit yourself
28. .. Nc1 (I’ll get your second Rook for my second Knight – it seems.)
Are you sure that you’ll able resist my Queen & 2 Rooks by your Queen & 2 Knights?
If not & You will concede to me I propose to begin new tread. I’ll play White & my first move will be !. e4
If you get enough confidence for prolonging present fighting – let’s continue it. It won’t take much time now ;).
AVN Oct 08, 2002, 07:02 AM This position is indeed lost, so I resign. The loss of a second exchange (=difference between rook and minor piece) is too much. I know the advantage of one exchange is already enough to win the game, but I thought I could learn something from your technique, therefore I continued playing.
Anyway congratulations. :goodjob:
I will report the result to Smash and start a second thread.
