I don't think there should be any errors, since really the only errors in a Mapscript that I can think of would be 2.4 Python calls, which are unlikely. Its not like they need to do any registry calls...
I will probably try these out sometime, but I am busy with other things right now. :)

I have seen one map script that used registry calls - Smart_Map, which is included in the BUG mod installation.

Really? That sounds unnecessary, unless you want the script to be edited with an ini file (which I'd guess is the case??)

It saves the user settings in a .cfg file in the user's My Games\Civ4 directory.
